We've all heard that Parker will be out four weeks. Ginobili isn't likely to return before then either.
What will our record be the next 15 games without them?

Ehh...we could be playing UTEP and have a tough time right now. This group that's playing is just going to have to pull together, guys stepping up who haven't before or in a long time, and play to win. There's enough talent here to win a few of those games, it's just a matter of Pop finding combinations that work and the guys believing they can win without Parker and Ginobili. I'll call it 6-9 without Parker, Ginobili if they both miss 15 games. That would leave the team at 7-13. If it ends up taking 52 wins to make the playoffs in the West that would translate into a 45-17 completion to the season, which is possible. If the team can't do that they're better off getting a lottery pick anyway.

If Pop starts Farmer/Mason in place of Finley and limits finleys minutes by alot i know we can be competetive with most bad teams right now and get some wins. Finley is contributing absolutely nothing right now. And i was a finley apologetic last year but i have just given up on the guy.

I wouldn't worry about it. If the Spurs team just plays to have fun out there, they will not only develop their young guns, they will probably win a few games they aren't expected to. Relax and enjoy the season. Example; Lakers weren't expected to go as far as they did last year. Being an underdog means less pressure. No one has counted out the Spurs, even before TP went down.

Between 7-8 and 9-6. I really think Pop will stay true to his word and play the energy guys. Hell, they brought the Spurs back into the game against Miami.
Imagine if Tim, Tolliver, Hill, Farmer, Mason, and Ime got the most minutes at their position? Then dead weight like Fin wouldn't have a chance to fuck over the team. Since Pop is apparently looking for offense right now, he needs to realize Bowen is better on O than Fin right now.

Against the Suns, Blazers, Mavericks, Wolves and Heat they were 1-4, and they had Parker for 4 and a quarter of those games. Without Parker, they'll be lucky to keep the same pace.

Yeah, that's the whole point. When the Spurs are healthy, they are expected to win every time out, just like the Lakers or the Celtics. We're nervous fans, they are pros. As I said, if they just have fun out there, they will be fine. No pressure. Back in 2002-03, Lakers were under .500 until January. (Shaq was out first month). They still won 50 games and got to second round vs. Spurs.

they had a guy named Kobe, the Spurs are built around Tim with Manu and Parker creating off the dribble. The Spurs will have to fine more creative ways to manufacture offense without these guys. I think they'll be fine only if rebounds are address and the young guys can play and produce. Pop keeps playing Finley when he needs to give these younger wings an opportunity to develop, they can't be much worse than what Fin is doing at the moment. Finley is basically a spot up shooter at best now and if he can't hit shots, he needs to sit and atleast allow some energy to carry the team at the least develop some guys for next season.

Maybe the lakers werent predicted to win it all when the season started. Because no bynum and no gasol. But when gasol came aboard they sure were sent into the mix. And I totally agree, right now there is no pressure. Win or lose it will be fun only if Pop makes it fun. And even before the season started he was having fun. Pop knew how tough this season would be once Manu went down. He also knew how hard this season would be when he looked at his roster and couldnt fill the needs it needed. Now a handful of games into the season and TP goes down. We all know what to expect now. Now I honestly believe the doom and gloom threads will slow down.

I would be shocked if we win more than 3 games. Our role players suck, Mason and hill should play well and Ian will hopefully give us some good mins, but the other guys are just run dry!
The way I can see it we can make some moves now or we will be a lottery team. No way we get down 12 games and climb back in it unless every team starts having major injuries.
I can see us getting higher than the 8th seed and to me, I would rather have the lottery pick and try next year with a fresh team and a hungry big three.
Logical.

So you're predicting 4-16 and they miss the playoffs, right?
The 8th team in the west is probably going to be somewhere around .500, so that would put the Spurs 4, maybe 5 games back with 62 to go.

Given the latest statements from Tony Parker I'm definitely saying they will miss the playoffs. I had no idea that his ankle was previously injured. That kind of chronic injury just doesn't become healed in the middle of the season.

re: playoffs and number of wins
Just to remind everybody, Golden State won 48 games last year and still missed the playoffs.
Going back to the 99-00 season, no team in the Western Conference has made the playoffs with a record of .500 or worse.
And while Golden State will be worse this year, other teams will be better, like Portland and Sacramento.
objective
11-11-2008, 02:48 PM
in fact the west was so tight last year that even if Golden State had managed 2 more wins to get to 50 wins they still would have missed the playoffs because Denver had the tie-breaker.
If the Spurs start out 5-15 or 4-16 with 62 games remaining they'll be close to done because it's not like Parker and Ginobili will be magically in great shape and in good rhythms right off the inactive list. With a worn down Duncan. With Oberto and Thomas and Finley doing their routines.
rascal
11-11-2008, 02:49 PM
So the spurs have a margin of 50 wins or so to make the playoffs. They already have 4 losses and add another 12 before they get parker back. That leaves for a 46-16 record the rest of the way.
Its not going to happen that they play to a 45 or 46 wins to 16 or 17 loss record.
