DENVER -- Forward Antonio McDyess (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=530) was waived by the Denver Nuggets (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=den) on Monday, the first step toward what might be his rejoining Detroit's roster.

McDyess, who sources say has no interest in playing for any other team than the Pistons (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=det), was waived one week after Denver obtained him from Detroit, along with Chauncey Billups (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=63) and Cheikh Samb (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2996), in a swap for Allen Iverson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=366).
McDyess did not appear in any games for Denver.
Now that his release had been secured, McDyess must wait a league-mandated 30 days to sign with another club.

Let the bidding begin.

I thought he only had to wait 30 days if he was returning to the trading club? If he was simply waived, I thought he could sign with a new team immediately?

Maybe I'm wrong...

Sign McDyess then trade Bass/Stack to the Bobcats for G Wallace

PG: Kidd/JET/Barea
SG: J-Ho/Green/Wright
SF: Wallace/George
PF: Dirk/McDyess
C: Dampier/Diop

Yeah he can sign anywhere but Detroit before 30 days. But he's already done everything short of pulling a Stackhouse in making it known that he's going back to Detroit.

I thought pulling a Stackhouse is making it known before the trade, which then fucks up the trade for your team.

Yeah, he's probably pulling more of a "Brent Barry"

I believe it's a "Gary Payton" since the rule was named for him. Otherwise he's pulling an "Antonio McDyess".

"Pulling a Stackhouse" would be blatantly announcing your intentions to the media before the trade, thereby removing all deniability.

Everybody knew Brent Barry wanted to come back to San Antonio. And the fact that he didn't immediately sign with another team only further indicated that.

But because he never came outright and provided proof to his intentions, he was able to swing the deal, just like many have before. As long as they don't provide a smoking pistol, both sides can kinda play dumb through the 30-days.

Dice seems to be playing it smart. I'm not sure where the reports are coming in that he definitely intends to return to Detroit, but they certainly must not be very substantial or it seems like he'd get called out on it.
