What do you think our chances would have been in the 1989-90 season if we had either drafted differently or kept several of the players we actually drafted?

1984 - SG Alvin Robertson
1985 - G Joe Dumars (Alfredick Hughes)
1985 - C Manute Bol
1985 - G/F Tyrone Corbin
1986 - PG Johnny Dawkins
1986 - F/C Kevin Duckworth
1986 - G/F Kenny Gattison (Forrest McKenzie)
1987 - C David Robinson
1987 - F/C Greg Anderson
1987 - G Winston Garland (Nate Blackwell)
1987 - G/F Donald Royal (Phil Zevenbergen)
1987 - F/C Chris Dudley (Todd May)
1988 - G/F Willie Anderson
1988 - F/C Andrew Lang (Shelton Jones)
1989 - G/F Sean Elliott

1989-90 Depth Chart (Starters in bold)
C - Duckworth, Bol, Dudley
PF - Robinson, Lang, Anderson
SF - Elliott, Gattison, Royal
SG - Robertson, Anderson, Corbin
PG - Dumars, Garland, Dawkins

I know Portland wouldn't have had Duckworth and Detroit wouldn't have had Dumars. We also wouldn't have traded Robertson for Cummings.

I think this lineup would have dominated the NBA for several years if they could have afforded to keep it together. That starting lineup would have been absolutely sick defensively. Heck, put in Manute next to DRob and they would have been swattin shots like they were flies.

that would have been an awesome defensive backcourt.

the biggest issue i had with my scenario was that the 84-86 drafts probably make us too good to end up with Robinson....but since it is hypothetical, I can get away with it.

btw, as much as i cant stand the guy, Larry Brown would still have been the coach, with Pop as an assistant. He would have definitely made us a defensive minded unit.

Yah, but easily any time he was on the court and not in the strip club Alvin would have been the PG. His ballhandling skills and quickness/speed were far superior to Joe D's.

Was Joe a better player? Hellz to the Yah, by a billion miles...but I love that lineup.

...but Robertson record a quadruple double :P

A multi-dimensional player, Robertson is one of only four NBA players to record a quadruple-double (double digits in four statistical categories in a single game) when he registered 20 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals whilst playing for the Spurs against the Phoenix Suns.[5] He is also the only player to do so with steals as the fourth category (the other three were with blocks).[6]
