Been waiting for a station like 101x in austin. Just curious as to see how everyone else feels about this.

It's called 99.5 KISS.

99.5 is in no way "alternative". Those types of stations are usually situated in either large metropolises or college towns in order to draw the demographic that will support them.

there is no market here for them... alt and techno stations don't last here...

101x is not Alt, neither is Kiss. Try listening to KSYM 90.1 and KRTU 91.7 at night. Both play alternative music.

Yeah, let's leave that slot open for another country to Tejano station. OR OR another top 40 station, we don't have enough of those!

San Antonio's roots were entrenched in rock some 30 yrs ago & firmly remain there. Country & Booty music have gained popularity but rock is still king in SA..I like it because it keeps SA from being another Dallas or Houston. I would like to see a station like LA's KROQ. KSYM is the closest thing but their format is so undefined that it is hard to hear the same type of music 3 times in the week with out staying up late or getting up way early. 91X in San Diego used to be near KROQ's level in the late 80's & early 90's & oth stations sponsored awesome concerts.

What SA needs is a good Texas/Classic country station like KVET 98.1 in Austin.

It's about the revenue a station can bring in.
Who wants to pay for an ad nobody is going to hear?
Doesn't SAC or UTSA have a college radio station for alternative music?

KSYM is SAC's station, and KRTU is Trinity's.

KSYM is were I first heard The Postal Service. Death Cab for Cutie. And this was about two years ago before MTV anf the OC found them.

yes, I'm aware of 90.1 from sac. But what I'm shooting for is a mainstream alternative rock station like some mentioned above in KROQ's and the one in San Diego. Someone that plays a hell of a lot more modest mouse, franz ferdinand, jimmy eat world, my chemical romance............

mainstream alternative rock
That's a nice oxymoron.

Well, if I'm ever within a 5 block radius of San Pedro High, I'll do just that!

San Antonio needs to bring back a jazz station! They shouldn't never had gotten rid of Smooth Jazz 106.7.

The formats that are supported will survive. Bottom line.
I like BOB-FM out of Austin. Thankfully, living far NE, I can pick up several Austin stations.

Not really.
Mainstream Indie music would be an oxymoron.
We need a better alternative Indie radio station.

UTSA classes do feel like movie theaters, that's a good call.
San Antonio does have a Jazz Station, listen to KRTU during the day.

I still don't get the correlation between UTSA classes and theater?
Are you guys talking about the stadium seating?
davi78239
02-22-2005, 12:19 PM
yea, there are a good amount of classes that do go under stadium seating. A lot of those are the basic classes but when you get a lot further into your major, the classes do get quite a bit smaller, like 40-50 people at the most.
