View Full Version : Dirk picked tough time to call out teammates

Dirk doesn't bark just to bark, so you know he had to be really ticked to question the Mavs' effort after Sunday's loss to the Clippers.

Just in case there was any question about it, Dirk reiterated his comments yesterday for the Dallas media horde.

I have no problem whatsoever with Dirk saying what he did. Some might say it's a long overdue sign of leadership for the best player in franchise history. But he didn't exactly pick a great time to do it.

You see, when a superstar offers a public ripping, he's expected to back it up with an impressive performance on the floor. That's gonna be awfully tough to do for Dirk tonight. For evidence, check out the post on LA Times' Lakers blog that breaks down the offensive stats of the stars who have faced the Lakers this season.

So Dirk's probably in for a 30-something-percent-shooting stinker tonight. But if he does struggle, it won't be because of a lack of effort.

Fire in the Sky

Ablaze! the heavens went Ablaze!
In an instant all hell broke loose...
The Hudson River was turned suddenly into a haze
Of smoke, fire, sulfur!
The Birds hit their prey
With no regards for the carnage, the casualties, the
loss!
Less than an hour
Twin brothers fell
Victims of the blood-bath!
In perplexity I scratch my head and wonder
What could have prepared us for this horrendous act?
In an instant New York City as we knew it was blown
away..
For no apparent reason whatsoever!
The enemy struck down thousands of innocent victims!
Now, it must answer to our wrath!

Not if Gasol is guarding him. He nuts in his face every time they play.

i don't even care if the mavs loose this game (which they most likely will). I'm just curious to see what Dirk does after a comment like this, plus Mavs vs LAL is always a good game :toast

The Mavs might lose this one by 20+ points, but Dirk will still get 30 points. Last season's games against the Lakers: 26, 30, 35, and 27 points. Double digit rebounds in three of them. He'll be just fine.

Dirk wont be getting even 20 tonight. Book it.

Please. He'll push at least 30. Book that.

Triple doubles are for pussies. Quadruple doubles are the new black.

Kidd has probably had a few quad-doubles already, but I don't think "taking shots with a foot on the 3 point line" is an official stat.

Sorry Dirk fans, but he ain't diggling tonight.

Lakers are zeroing in on opposing team's stars this year and allowing the scrubs to put up points. Watch for hard traps from Kobe/Ariza to help Pau with Dirk everytime he gets the ball.

Opponent Superstar/Star FG% vs Lakers is 31% and 10 points.

I'd say Dirk gets 15-18 hard-fought points (FG% < 40%)

No way. You put far too much water in the Laker's defense - its something thats learned over time, and built as a system.

Dirk will score at least 20 on 45% or better shooting.

Dirk is only averaging 22 points at home, and his lowest game was against the Cavs with 8 points, and here comes the best team with the best defense in the league. Not to mention the Lakers have shut down all of the opositions stars, Carmella, Baron, Iverson, Roy, Aldridge, Tmac, Yao, Artest have all been shut down. Dirk will be no different.

LOL, Aldridge. Since when is he a star?

Also, how many of those players were guarded by Pau Gasol?

Nah, you guys can't blame Dirk. I toldja guys before the game he'd get 15-18 hard points.

It's the Lakers defensive strategy this year to crowd the star and let the scrubs get off.
