View Full Version : Cat Question

Can any of you recommend a caring and reasonably price vet to me?

Here is the situation.

A few months ago, my room mate brought home a kitten. She adopted it from a friend whose cat had had a litter.

The kitten, Luke Harrison, while he gets into everything and consumes any and all leftovers like a garbage disposal, is a good cat and I am very attached to him.

My roommate already has another cat and is finding out that Luke is a lot for my roommate to handle, both practically and financially.

We have been discussing the option of my adopting Luke, since I planned to get a cat in the next year or so anyway and already really like this one.

The kitten will need to get fixed soon and may need some additional shots. Since the cat will be an added expense for me, I would like to consult with a vet before adopting him.
I want to make sure the kitten is healthy and that I can afford to properly care for him.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

The cheapest way to get him fixed is taking him to the SNAP van that is always in some HEB parking lot. You drop them off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon.

+1 - you have to get there EARLY to make sure the cat gets in, though - they can only do a certain number of animals per visit. They will do the spay/neuter and vaccines for a really reasonable price. My friend adopted two cats a couple years ago, so we each took one to the SNAP clinic and it was really easy.

If you're adverse to taking a cat somewhere at 530am and waiting around for forever, the last time I got my cat's immunizations I took her to Affordable Pet Care Northwest (http://www.apcnw.com/) on Grissom, and they were good people.

A cat that gets into things and consumes any and all leftovers like a garbage disposal is very healthy…The finicky ones that need bottled water, designer cat food & hide when strangers are around are the problem cats…

I find that the easiest and most cost efficient way to care for cats is to make a quick stop over to your nearest HEB and it will only cost you 99 cents. What you do is stop by HEB walk in (sans gato) and buy one of their new "green" bags. Then go home and take aforementioned bag and place the little garbage munchin kitty in the bag. The next step is to take some duct tape (rope will do fine but I prefer duct tape) and proceed to tape all over the bag. The kitten will move around alot and make alot of noise but this is natural, if this gets out of hand just hold the bag high above your head and drop it a few times. This usually solves the noise problem.
Now that you have your little bundle wrapped up and quiet then hop into your Yugo and head over to the nearest lake, river, dump, etc. and dump your neatly bound package into the water. This is a guaranteed way to make sure that you never have to pay for any more shots and will also help in case you ever decide to have children since cats will take away your future baby's breath.

This has been an I. Hustle how to minute. Thanks for joining me and I hope you have a fantastic day!

Luke Harrison was a serial killer from the 50's in Poland who peeled the skin off of his victims and made bacon out of it. Nice... very nice.

oh - btw - Affordable Pet Care on Grissom Rd. Always been great with my pets and cheaper than every where else.

oh - and why not pick up a puppy too and name him Ed Gein.

Eww really? :depressed

My cat is named Luke because that is what my roommate wanted and Harrison because I wanted to name him after Harrison Ford.
Luke is a good Bible name- and that is what he mostly gets called.

but like mentioned before you need to get up real early to secure a spot.

If not, we've been going to Pavlov's Dog & Cat Hospital for awhile now and we like it.

Has he gone outside at all? If he's 4 months without any shots, you may need to get someone to do an exam - kitties with outside privileges (or those who live with cats that go outside) need a little more attention since they're exposed to more stuff from other cats, like feline leukemia and all the other things they get vaccinated for.

Thanks Jess, that's exactly what I was going to say! :) Also since you already have another cat in the same living quarters (I think that's what I understood from your story), if the other cat's vaccinations aren't up to date, the kitten can become very susceptible to anything the other cat might be carrying. Be sure to get it checked out as soon as you can Veronica.

The kitten has been in our house since he was about six weeks old, when my roommate brought him home from a friend's home, and has never been outdoors.

My roommate's other cat is current on her shots.
