SAN ANTONIO – With the New York Knicks taking on the Spurs, it was great to see Malik Rose back in town Tuesday night.

Malik still has a home in San Antonio, and that big contract he has with the Knicks is almost up.

So I asked him if he wants to come back and end his career as a Spur?

“Of course,” Malik replied. “I've always held out that hope that I'd be a Spurs again one day. After this year I'll be a free agent. I'll be looking for somewhere else to play. Hopefully, my plans fit with theirs. But if they don't – again – there will be no hard feelings. I'll be somewhere. I'll be playing somewhere.”

Take him. An actual Free Agent that wants to play for SA.

If he wants to sign for peanuts, then fine.

Yeah, just what we need, another 35-YO guy that can't even get off the sorry-assed Knicks bench for more than a few minutes a night.

Malik's time is past.

malik sucks, can't get his head out of the gutter with his night-life persona, and just isn't that dedicated to working on his game.

like i've stated before on this forum... it's fine to do what you want in life as a bballer so long as you live up to your contract and going out to a strip club the night before a big game is not my definition of living up to your contract.

fuck malik and his gross ass philly cheese steaks.

Well there will be no more Kurt next year....so why not sign Rose....I know that he sucked in NY, but I'd take him over Bonner anyday!

Malik on a minimum contract in an end of bench role? Couldn't hurt. He'd do more good sitting on the end of the bench mentoring Tolliver and Mahinmi than Bonner would just rotting away.

Malik isn't the guy he was years ago. Don't you think he misses winning? I am sorry, playing on the Knicks is a humbling experience than makes you appreciate a team like the Spurs. All of that crap he had to put up with during the Isiah years makes a man out of a boy. I say he would be willing to come here for anything offered, even the vet minimum. He misses playing here and I say anyone who wants to play for us, we should sign them up!

96's spurs = 08's heat

that's not cheating . not much thing you can do with injured players .

btw, there is some team consecutively tanked for 22 years .

I forget Boston had a chance to get Tim.

What about tony and manu?

We drafted them very low.

Malik Rose defended Shaq as well as anyone in his prime for short stretches and whose to say he could not still give some rare effective minutes against him, Yao and the two headed monster out there at the LALs?

Bring him back.

Steve-O-Matic
11-12-2008, 02:22 PM
No thanks. Rose has been done for awhile now and would bring nothing more than another "nice guy" to a team already filled to the brim with nice guys. He makes Robert Horry look spry and productive by comparison.

I always felt that Malik got shipped because of personality clashes with Pop. I'm curious how they are now.

:tu My thoughts exactly. I'd love to have Malik back in a Spurs uniform. On any team, you're going to have players 11 through 15 who aren't going to play much at all. Might as well make them good guys and hard workers who want to be here.

I was disappointed last night that Big Kev did not announce it when Malik came into the game. I wanted to cheer for him.

Boston should have been fined and draft picks taken from them for tanking. Duncan is Mangoo and Parker.

I'm sooooo out on the Spurs annual foray through the "over-the-hill", "end-of-career", free-agent bargain bin. However, I'd make an exception for Malik considering the fact that he was a key contributor to two championships here. I just don't know how much he's got left. As someone mentioned earlier, he'd be better than having Bonner rotting at the end of the bench. I would be willing to bet that he'd contribute more, at this age, than a younger Bonner.

Malik is done. We let him go a little too soon but now it's too late to get him back. You get undersized big men early or not at all.

Not if they don't have a future (or even a present). With very few exceptions, they're ALL "good guys and hard workers who want to be here," so adding one more who contributes nothing in the way of basketball skills on the floor serves no discernable purpose. If I'm going to have a Malik occupying one of my last roster spots, I want it to be Hairston, not Rose.

+1 34 is about the time your legs really go. A 6'5" jumping impaired Malik is too ugly to contemplate.

I liked his heart and hustle. But the the Spurs ceiling will be smaller.

And who's going to make room for him? Esp with Gist and maybe even Splitters coming over next year.

Malik=choke artist. He and Fab have alot in common. They are left alone under the basket and they will double pump. While they're double pumping thinking they're gonna juke someone. It gives teams time to get there and make them pass the ball or turn it over. No thank you. Malik's play thou has alot of hustle isnt worth a crap. We have enough players who play like that. We have alot of heart and hustle. But no talent. Let the young guys play until TP and Manu get back. Dont try to fix something with a guy like Malik. Id rather lose like last night with the young guys. Then lose by bringing back a guy we all know cant play in this league. Malik will always live on someones bench.
