actually was playing one of his best games before Pop pulled him out for Bonner, who I think just sealed the deal to be traded thanks to his impressive game tonight. He played more minutes tonight then his past 4 games combined, hint hint he will be traded within the next couple of days....
Unless Tolliver was injured and that is why Bonner played so much tonight

Bonner came in and played well. I think Pop was searching for a guy who can take and make threes.

That's a great point. Tolliver has been taking them, but he wasn't making any.

Bonner came into the game and didn't hang his head, stayed in the game and made a contribution. This is the best performance I've seen from him, by far.

True, but he still sucks on D.

And Tolliver came out not long after his steal and dunk. I don't think he ever came back. That doesn't really make sense to me; he wasn't blocking out very well but I can't imagine Pop punishing him for that.

Maybe Pop wants to "showcase" Bonner so they can move him.

David Robinson is not walking through that door. Well, okay, maybe he's walking through that one, but that's the fans' entrance.

if only we could combine Bonner's shooting with the rest of Tolliver's game..

Not sure Bonner hasn't been the better defender here so far. It's entirely possible that the two of them will make each other better just by competing for minutes.

matchup. Pop wanted to pull some of the Rox' bigs out on the perimeter. result: Artest 2 rebounds; Scola 1 rebound.

I haven't seen much of a difference defensively..but Tolliver is just a more active player..dives for loose balls, moves better, gets in for more rebounds..just a more confident player..
Bonner will definitely get better with this competition though..
I'm still hoping Ian can look good enough to knock down our entire non-Duncan frontcourt, but that might be hoping for too much..

Bonner the better rebounder, Tolliver the better man defender. Bonner the better overall player.

I gotta give Tolliver some credit for diving, but I do recall him trying to to save a ball that the other team's player clearly hit. A tornado goes 100 miles an hour but doesn't get anywhere particularly fast. :lol
He's shown to be a pretty good passer, shows some ability to make steals and plays with enthusiasm. The last of those is the most important and could keep him around while elevating the play of his teammates. Win/win in my book. Bonner seemed to pattern his game after Tolliver's, and it paid off.

tolliver's man, landry got 2 consecutive offensive rebounds-that i think got bonner in the game. then bonner went on to bury a 3, and that's all about it.

I like having both of them, they will compete for minutes and play HARD.

Landry is a great rebounder, its likely he would have gotten those on anyone.

Not only that. Matt was fresh because he hadnt played many minutes this past week. People forget 3 games in 4 days means bench players minutes change alot.

Remember how Pop played Malik Rose heavy minutes before trading him to NY for Nazr?
Pop is showcasing Bonner to potential suitor...

I pretty much agree here. Matt has needed a kick in the ass for a long time and watching a 23yr old kid show him up and make him ride the pine might have been some good therapy. Tolliver probably has more upside in the long run because I have doubts that Matt can put together consistent performances, but if he can push a few out of him then that is better than what we have been getting.

Tolliver has definitely impressed me with his passing though..
ironic, because the only thing I heard about him was his "great" shooting, and nothing else..now he does everything else, but can't shoot..

Tolliver has shown a knack for getting the ball to Duncan in position to score many times.. that's the best part of his game so far IMO. Let's hope he can keep it up.

Its these same people wondering why Tolliver got benched who are still calling for Bonner's head after his major contributions last night.

Tolliver has done that a couple of times, but when he made the same pass to someone else last night (Oberto I think), I suddenly realized that he could be making that pass because he's got no confidence in his shot instead of because it's such a heads up play. His hustle is infectious, and he's got a lot of enthusiasm. I hope that will be enough to sustain him, but I suspect he doesn't have the skills to stick. I really like what he brings though so I hope he does.

I don't understand why fans do that. I must admit that I didn't think Tolliver did anything to warrant being benched for the entire game, but Hill got the same treatment the game before, so it's not shocking.
