Sucks it got pushed back from this December.

I think the rationale behind a big summer push is that they want it to make money and gain an audience beyond Star Trek fans. If you're at all interested in Star Trek being reinvigorated and getting greenlit for more shows and movies, maybe this is the best way to do it, by having this movie make a ton of money.

LOL

Winona Ryder plays Spock's mommy. Yowza!

She's one of the few actresses that could probably make more money doing porn.

Bitchin'.

Looks like the old school Star Trek is getting a make-over, finally. Out with the corn, in with the cool.

I hope the surviving members of the old cast all get cameos.

I'm only aware of Leonard Nimoy having any role...as a "future" Spock.

I think turning the mythos of Star Trek into a slam-bam action movie is depressing, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about it. The reason the previous movies bombed is because Trek is largely about bigger sci-fi scope than just "shoot the aliens" and those kind of innerspace questions are kind of boring. Likewise the reason a few of the movies did well is because their action was built on the established foundations.

It'll be interesting to see how they manage to address the scope of the Star Trek universe in a movie format without stripping it entirely of merit. I'm not optimistic, but I'd absolutely love to be proven wrong and it bodes well that they went mostly for unknowns vs cheap star power.

I don't think the movie is going to be an extended 2-hour long action scene, I think there will be enough care to make a good story with interesting character development. I trust JJ Abrams. The creative team that was in charge for all of the Trek projects didn't have the greatest of track records. First Contact was the only TNG movie that wasn't fucking horrible.

Agreed the previous Trek movies were mostly losers...but Armageddon, Alias, Lost ... I don't have the trust in Abrams you do. :p:

Not a Trekkie. Looks like it will be a solid sci-fi film and franchise reboot. This was just a teaser trailer. more to come.

SOMEBODY, please clarify for me.

Is this a remake, or technically is this Star Trek X? (I guess X would be 10 or 11 by now..)

If its a remake, I see trekkies hating this dirty hair-rife cat turd. If its just a new star trek movie but with the original characters, I am going to see it at the theatres. Even though it has that uber bushy eyebrowed douche from Heroes

My understanding is it's supposed to be how Kirk and Spock met at Starfleet Academy, and how they assembled the original crew. None of that was ever covered in The Original Series.

It's not a prequel, because it has to do with time travel, it launches a new timeline. (That way they can make more movies, and not have to worry about upsetting the original mythos)

Wait, seriously? This is Star Trek re-invented under James Cameron-esque sci-fi lite time travel anti-logic theory? So much blerg.

I wasn't thrilled with the idea of a prequel, but this is so much worse.

RHEEE! RHEEEE!!!

Lame alert! Lame alert!

"Captain! I'm reading a massive cloud of shameless corporate greed off the port bow! It seems to be directed by a malevolent intelligence and heading towards us at warp speed!"

"Shields up, Evasive manuevers! Take us to course 1969 at maximum warp!"

"It's gaining on us sir!"

"Fire sentimental torpedos, maximum spread!"

"Firing.... no effect."

"Communications... get me William Shatner, perhaps he can tell us how to reason with this thing."

I saw the trailer before Quantum of Solace and thought it looked bangin' except for the fact that all the characters look way too young. But if it's really a prequel to the original television series then that makes sense. These guys aren't ALL unknowns, it's just cheap talent... but this is a chance for them to ditch the characters they're usually typecast as.

I think it's laughable that George Takei's replacement is that fag from the Harold & Kumar movies, but I hope he proves me wrong and shows he has talent, unlike Ashton Kutcher when he tries to do a serious movie.

I like that people think they're not going to be campy despite John Cho (Harold and Kumar) as Sulu and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) as Mr. Scott.

Simon Pegg has definitely stated he's in it for comic relief. The trailer doesn't look like "Star Trek," at least as I've known it. Although the best entries in the series have definitely been darker films (Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, First Contact).

Okay so is the timeline going to be altered in the movie as part of the plot or is it a given that this is a different timeline?

Either case--we're basically looking at a remake. Which is rrrrrrrrrrrreal fuckin gay.

You also need some comedy or camp to keep the loyal minions from taking it too seriously. The ladies night scene in Terminator 3 is a good example.

Looks alright. They needed to reboot the franchise anyway. I half expected Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes gay sex borg plot for the next film. This will be much better.
