Final: Spurs 90, Kings 88 (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/11/gameday_spurs_vs_kings.html)

For the second straight game, Tim Duncan helped the Spurs finish strong on the way to a victory. Duncan had the Spurs' final two baskets in a 90-88 victory over the Kings. :smokin

Duncan finished with 20 points including the tying basket with 49 seconds left and the go-ahead basket with 15 seconds left. Michael Finley led the Spurs with 21 points and Roger Mason Jr. had 18.

There were eight lead changes in the fourth quarter.

John Salmons led the Kings with 31 points. Former Spur Beno Udrih had 16 points and four assists.

FOURTH QUARTER

Tim Duncan scored to tie it 88-88 with 49.5 seconds left in the game.

The Kings lead 81-79 midway through the fourth quarter. John Salmons has 29 points including the Kings' last basket.

It looks like it will be tight heading down the stretch. The Spurs made a 7-0 run and took a 73-72 lead on a Roger Mason Jr. 3-pointer. The Kings answered and lead 76-75 with 8:45 left.

THIRD QUARTER

The Spurs finished the third quarter with an 8-2 run. The Kings still led 72-68.

The Kings made an 11-4 surge. They went ahead 63-55, matching their biggest lead of the first half.

Sacramento's John Salmons has two 3-pointers and a three-point play early in the second half. The Kings lead 55-51.

SECOND QUARTER

Tim Duncan and Michael Finley had 10 points each as the Spurs took a 43-42 halftime lead.

The teams traded baskets late in the half and there were seven lead changes in the last three minues of the second quarter.

A Finley basket put the Spurs in front 34-33 for their first lead of the game.

Matt Bonner has a basket and a 3-pointer in the second quarter. The Kings lead 31-24 midway through the quarter behind 12 points from John Salmons.

FIRST QUARTER

Sacramento's John Salmons scored 10 points to lead the Kings to a 23-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Salmons was 4 of 5 from the field in the quarter. The Spurs were 6 of 21 shooting (28.6 percent).

Tim Duncan has eight points but the Spurs trail 21-15 late in the first quarter.

Michael Finley had the Spurs' first basket and Tim Duncan had four points early. They're looking for some help as the Kings have jumped out to a 12-6 lead.

PREGAME

Spurs starters: George Hill, Roger Mason Jr., Michael Finley, Tim Duncan and Fabricio Oberto.

New Spurs guard Blake Ahern is in uniform and active for tonight's game.

The Spurs beat the Kings in seven of their last eight meetings. The Spurs could use another victory against the Kings tonight to build some momentum following Friday's victory over the Houston Rockets.

A victory tonight would also get the Spurs off to a good start in the first game of a road back-to-back. The Spurs are in Los Angeles on Monday for a 9:30 p.m. game against the Clippers.

The Kings had won four of five games before losing to the Suns on Friday.

Sacramento's Kevin Martin, who has been known to give the Spurs fits, is averaging a team-high 22.4 points per game. He hasn't played since Nov. 9. He is expected to miss tonight's game due to a left ankle sprain.

On Wednesday night, former Spurs guard Beno Udrih scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Kings to a 103-98 victory over the Clippers. Udrih is averaging 11.8 points and 4.1 assists.

A note on another former Spur: Robert Horry spent part of Sunday afternoon at a restaurant near the Spurs' practice facility having lunch and watching football.

Meh, he didn't help himself by not coming to camp in shape and by dragging out every little annoying injury. I predicted Beno'd make the all star team at his next stop after San Antonio, but he's still a fucking pussy, and Pop's never going to like players like him. What pissed me off is that Pop picked up his option knowing damn good and well he was never going to like the guy or trust him enough to let him play.

It's annoying when he looks so gutless when going for rebounds. He looked like a different player in that respect tonight. The Duncan from two games ago wouldn't have gotten half of those tough boards in the 4th quarter that ended up being the difference in the game.

It is annoying, but we're spoiled. We expect greatness from him every game, every minute. He's not always going to do that. But he usually gives us all he's got on any given night. His heart is in it, even when he's having an off game.

I don't know that expecting a career double digit rebounder to keep the other team from getting a thousand offensive rebounds is expecting greatness, and If he's going to play 40 minutes, then they need to win the game. Wanting him to be the leading rebounder on the team is one thing, hoping he can out-board both his starting guards is another.

Great game. Even better that we got the win.

Duncan did his thing and we got nice contributions from Finley, Mason, Vaughn, and Bonner.

Finley still has some miscues but I'm really liking how he's moving without the ball and even attacking the basket some. That dunk was Finley like 5 years ago.

I'm leaning toward the idea that he needs to stay out of foul trouble as long as he's the only one of the big 3 playing. His effort on offensive boards really changed when we lost Parker. He can't be in the middle of that mess on every play without a higher risk of fouling.

His rebounding has always amazed me. He'll be under the basket with a zillion guys and somehow it's his fingertips that rise above them all. I think he'll be back to his usual numbers when he isn't carrying the offensive and defensive load.

I heard that argument the other night when someone made it, and it makes some sense until you realize Timmy had 2 personal fouls against Houston for the game and had 2 fouls in the first 47:30 of the Milwaukee game. That's a sign of passivity, and when you couple it with 5 rebounds per game, it's alarming. I never thought he'd do it twice in a row; I'm glad he didn't do it three times so we can stop talking about it now. :)

I don't think that too much to expect Duncan to register at or near a double-double. He's been a 20-10 machine all of his career. It was good to see him have a solid rebounding effort (10) versus the Queens.

Talent wise? You're out of your mind. He's very good at everything, he just doesn't give a shit half the time about the game or his teammates.

Those of us on the outside got pissed off at Pop for not playing him, but Beno's the stereotypical over-pampered spoiled athlete, and Pop had to see him every day next to Parker, who worked his ass off every day for three straight years just to be close to as good a shooter as Beno is. Watching the contrast between those two guys had to chap Pop's ass. We were joking about how pissed off Pop was when Beno scored tonight, but it's probably because he sees Beno's success as an insult to guys like Parker who work every day to make themselves better.

Just a question before we stop, what would you attribute the passivity to?

I don't know that I'd attribute it to anything. It's a long season, and like you said, he can't do everything every single night. He's been doing an excellent job of coming alive on the offensive end at the end of games, and his defense has been much better on the whole, and stellar at times. But I watched both of those games and he just got beat to spots, caught out of position and out-battled by smaller guys for the ball. With Manu and Tony out everything he does or doesn't do is magnified. I'm perfectly willing to chalk it up to just an incredible fluke of bad bounces as long as it doesn't happen again soon.

I just looked, and Duncan had back to back 5 rebound games twice last year, both times in November. :wow

I hope it doesn't happen again, it seems like he's warmed up. Maybe it's a November thing and it is standing out more because of his being the only one standing.

I don't think anyone that points out his mistakes is forgetting how good he's been this year and how incredible he's been at the end of games. I'm certainly not. To me, if we're discussing the team and critiquing the players, nobody gets a pass.

No one should get a pass, it's a team sport. It takes all of them to win. Or lose.

Obviously I'm biased, and I try to keep that in mind when Duncan is the one being critiqued. He should be called out when he has it coming.

But I've never seen him play without heart, which is the comment that started this conversation. He may have bad games but I believe his heart is always in it and he steps on the court every game hunting for the win.

Well, I did call it gutless, but Bogut had 17 boards and just manhandled him, and it pisses me off because that shouldn't happen. Duncan obviously thought so as well because of the way he performed in the last few minutes. Maybe I wouldn't have the balls to call him out if I were the coach, but I'm also not buying the "he was saving his fouls" story.

awesome win, Timmy put the team on his back again for those last minutes.

Wonder if Finley's dunk will be the NBA's top play of the day, pretty incredible dunk there.

Last time I saw Fin do that, I think he was wearing a blue jersey.
