vaughn sucks....all he does is dribble until there is too little time to set up a play.

finley is the worst inbounder in the league...all he does is turn it over when he inbounds it.

i have an idea....maybe we can get the ball to our future hall of famer just once here in the final 3 minutes....

Vaughn's no slouch on defense and he knows where he needs to be. In other words, he's less likely to make a mistake than the rookie is. And even though his offense is absolutely abysmal, he does continue to keep them moving somewhat. That would be my guess. George is learning the hardest position in basketball on the fly with a cobbled rotation.

Final: Spurs 86, Clippers 83 (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/11/gameday_spurs_vs_clippers.html)

FOURTH QUARTER

Roger Mason Jr. dribbled off a pick and hit a 3-pointer with 8.4 seconds left to give the Spurs an 86-83 road victory over the Los Angeles Clippers and a three-game win streak.

Mason led the Spurs with 21 points, Tim Duncan had 20 and Michael Finley had 19.

The Clippers' Chris Kaman had back-to-back baskets and Cuttino Mobley hit a 3-pointer to tie the game 83-83 with 1:04 left.

The Spurs are toughening up on defense down the stretch but are having a tough time scoring. The Spurs lead 83-76 with 2:49 left.

The Spurs are scoring well but not quite pulling away. Tim Duncan triggered a fast break that ended with a Bruce Bowen basket. The Clippers' Ricky Davis hit a 3-pointer and the Spurs lead 81-73 with 6:13 left.

Duncan is up to 20 points. The Spurs lead 75-66 with 10 minutes left in the game.

THIRD QUARTER

The Spurs dominated most of the third quarter and led 68-64 at the end of the period. The Clippers took advantage of some sloppy Spurs play to finish the quarter with an 8-2 run.

Roger Mason Jr. had nine points in the third quarter and the Spurs have their first 10-point lead of the game at 66-56.

Mason and Michael Finley are hitting from the outside to start the second half. A Finley 3-pointer put the Spurs in front 56-49.

SECOND QUARTER

Tim Duncan scored 12 points and the Spurs had a strong defensive second quarter to take a 43-38 halftime lead. The Spurs held the Clippers to 15 points in the second quarter.

Spurs guard George Hill, making his fifth start with Tony Parker out, was 0 of 3 from the field and had two points, four assists and two rebounds in the half.

New Spurs guard Blake Ahearn and Michael Finley hit back-to-back 3-pointers as the Spurs inched back in front 33-31 with less than five minutes left in the half.

The Clippers make more passes that are way off target than any team I've seen this year. Despite that, they have the momentum again and lead 29-27 midway through the second quarter.

Ahearn hit the court for the first time with 8:12 left in the second quarter. His first points came on a 3-pointer with about five minutes left in the half.

The Spurs are on a 10-0 run that goes back to the end of the first quarter. The Spurs lead 27-23 early in the second quarter.

FIRST QUARTER

The Clippers trailed by seven points early but finished the first quarter with a 23-21 lead.

The Clippers went on an 8-2 run as the Spurs' hot shooing cooled off. The Clippers lead 17-15.

The Spurs hit their first four shots of the game. The Clippers are rolling on offense as well and it's tied 13-13 at the first timeout. Roger Mason Jr. scored seven of the Spurs' first 11 points.

He's young, and he has stud written all over him. I'm excited with the way he plays, but it'll get worse before it gets better. That's what happens with young players. Pop will continue to give him burn and this experience is going to be great for him, particularly when he's needed, starting about March.

He's young, and he has stud written all over him. I'm excited with the way he plays, but it'll get worse before it gets better. That's what happens with young players. Pop will continue to give him burn and this experience is going to be great for him, particularly when he's needed, starting about March.

Ya i just figured him getting more burn than vaughn would be important so that hes able to play with his talent and ability, he needs experience to utilize his talents.. I could see if Vaughn was John stockton type.. not really fast... but completely controls many facets of the game.. but I question vaughns decision making on offense as a 12 year leader.. I dont consider it excusable for him to make mistakes like hill when hes been in the system for years... I mean if your athletic ability and offensive efficiency are dismal you better atleast be perfect on your decision making and leadership

I am REALLY starting to feel good about this season, folks. I mean, just look at Tim! Remember a few years ago everyone saying he was on the decline....remember the plantar fasciitis, the season when he couldn't jump an inch off the floor?

And look at him now! Scoring, rebounding, blocking, passing.....when he looks this good, this fit, this active and motivated, the Spurs are dangerous.

And isn't it weird how the injuries to Manu & Tony may turn out to be a blessing of sorts? Allowing Mason and Hill to get a lot of experience real quick?

Vaughn's a third string point guard playing over his head out of necessity for the team. If he were any good at all, he'd be getting 40 minutes a night. His lack of performance and Pop's belief in George is the reason he's getting minutes. I've said it before, JV's got no gifts that should make him an NBA player, yet he's managed to hold on all these years and he almost always contributes, even though his offense has been as bad as it's ever been so far this season and there have been a lot of more talented guys that can't even make a team.

Again, he plays good defense, knows where he's supposed to be and while he's not going to show flashes of brilliance as often as George does, he's going to be less likely to make the big mistake. Way less upside, but way less downside, which is helpful when George's game isn't on.

I know better than anybody how georges game works, ive seen him play in hundreds of games.. and the only thing that ever holds this kid back is himself.. he needs experience.. to be able to get to that next level of confidence and instinct.. I have seen him dominate games with high levels of talent guarding him.. just like he did against houston.. His shooting is all uncertainty and confidence.. because he is one of the most clutch and accurate shooters ive seen in high school and college.. hes disciplined.. and to see him missing open shots is mind boggling to me... because I have seen him drill 9 three balls in a period of about 5 minutes.. the game against houston is what ive seen him do his whole career...
but he does have games where he has NO energy, or isn't aggressive ... and Ive went after him about it, searching for a cause... if its diet related .. it needs to be fixed

The fact that this team is now 5-5 and doing more than tread water since Parker went down is amazing. I just hope that guys like Finley, Mason, and Bonner can bring what they're bringing right now with limited minutes off the bench. If they can do that and Parker and Manu can return to form this can be a very deep team.

Could Udoka be the odd man out once everyone's healthy? If Manu, Parker and Mahinmi all return to the active roster, then Tolliver, Ahearn and one other player would need to be inactive. If all 3 PG's are active, then Udoka could be the guy. The pressure is on him to play well.

Clippers are ripe for picking at end (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-clippers18-2008nov18,0,7825176.story)
They rally from an 11-point deficit but a three-point basket by Mason with 8.4 seconds left lifts the Spurs.
By Lisa Dillman

Suddenly, the missed cues and miscues vanished in a late, inspired run against the San Antonio Spurs.

And if that sounds as though the Clippers doubled their win total, well, that would be wildly optimistic.

They lost for the ninth time in 10 games this season, just in a different, more creative manner. Guard Roger Mason made a three-point basket with 8.4 seconds remaining to give the Spurs an 86-83 victory against the Clippers on Monday night at Staples Center.

It was Mason's third three-pointer of the game. He finished with a game-high 21 points and helped the Spurs survive after having blown an 11-point lead with 6 minutes 45 seconds remaining.

Clippers Coach Mike Dunleavy spoke about the Spurs' final shot.

"They came up with a pick. Unfortunately for us, the defense was not in front of me at the time," he said. "The building was pretty loud at the time. The ball should've been kept on that side. They had that left side loaded up. We should've forced it. We got picked in the back and Mason was wide open."

A three-point shot by Baron Davis of the Clippers missed as time expired.

"We were trying to get basically misdirection and getting me coming off the wing for a three," Davis said. "I thought they read it right. When I caught the ball, I had two guys on me and almost a second and a half to get a shot up. Tim Duncan, one of the best defenders, was standing in your face.

"It's pretty hard to do that. "

Davis finished with 11 points, though five of those came in the final quarter.

Davis didn't just struggle from three-point range, the way he did Saturday against the Golden State Warriors. Through three quarters against the Spurs, he was three for 12 from the field.

In all, he missed all eight of his three-point attempts, and the Clippers were merely three for 16 (18.8%) from that range. The Spurs shot 40%.

San Antonio, without guards Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, has won its last nine games against the Clippers. In addition to Mason's output, Duncan had 20 points and 15 rebounds and Michael Finley scored 19 points.

Said Davis: "We thought we had a chance to get this, with two of their top three players out. We thought if we can come with intensity and the focus to play, we'd be able to pull it out."

For the Clippers, Cuttino Mobley had 18 points and Chris Kaman had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

"The biggest factor to me was the shot selection," Dunleavy said. "I thought our shot selection -- we probably had 10 bad shots in this game tonight. We can't give that many possessions away and expect to win."

The Clippers had spoken about wanting to hover around .500 after an especially rugged early schedule against the (mostly) elite of the West.

Hovering remains a lofty goal. Sinking seems to be the operative word for the Clippers. But their next opponent is Oklahoma City, which has won once in 11 games.

Still, nearly everything that could go wrong has gone awry for the Clippers: Injuries, a lack of chemistry and the surfacing of what was described last week as a disconnect between Dunleavy and the star player, Davis.

Yea man..I've been thinking the same lately...who cares that we're going the whole 48 minutes to the buzzer to win these...a win is a win. Nobody can argue that we aren't short handed, that's a given.

Roger Mason has gone above and beyond our expectations and it's nice to see Timmy giving that extra 10% with Manu & Tony gone.

As you said, their injuries could be our blessing in disguise, if we can just keep the division close until they get back, keep giving our young guys minutes...we'll be good.
