The ... ugh, six sweatiest players

Categories: Channing Frye

Of all the players on the Trail Blazers, nobody is more eclectic than reserve forward Channing Frye.

He has his own Web site, channingfrye.com, where he champions the Keep Portland Weird slogan and encourages viewers to send him examples of how Portland is weird. He boasts a circle of friends that includes skateboarders, artists, video gamers the whole gamut, he says. He will wear Chuck Taylor Converse shoes with a suit. And he has come to adopt Portland as his hometown, vowing to live here regardless of whether he continues to play for the Blazers (hes in the last year of his contract).

So its not surprising to find Frye in the locker room, engaged in a conversation with teammates about something bizarre or off the wall. Throughout this season, we will drop in on some of these conversations and give you a slice of Fryes personality.

We call it a trip to Planet Frye.

This week, the topic is sweat.

Nobody on the Blazers sweats as much as Frye, who in a typical practice needs to exchange three T-shirts because they become so wet. As it turns out, Frye has long had a problem with sweating, having to bring an extra change of clothes to high school because he would sweat through them.

Soon, the question turns to whether Frye is the sweatiest guy in the NBA.

No way, Frye says. One of the sweatiest dudes is Nick Collison, by far.

Teammate Joel Przybilla joins the conversation and puts in his two cents.

Well, Shaquille ONeal has to be up there, Przybilla says.

No doubt, Frye agrees. With Shaq its like a .¤.¤. river coming off his forehead.

Frye is asked to list his top five sweatiest guys in the NBA. The list, however, has to be extended to six this week after Frye spent time guarding teammate Greg Oden in practice:
1. Nick Collison, Oklahoma City.
2. Shaquille ONeal, Phoenix.
3. Zach Randolph, New York.
4. Malik Rose, New York.
5. Channing Frye, Portland.
6. Greg Oden, Portland.

Some dudes just sweat a lot because they went out the night before, Frye explains.

So does the sweat factor have an effect on how Frye guards the opponent?

No, because its your job, Frye replies. It just makes it grosser when they fall on you, or if you try to take a charge, or of there is a scuffle. When your face gets stuck in their jersey? Ugh. I mean, your own sweat is pretty gross. But everyone elses sweat is nasty. And Collison ... hes just gross.

Kevin Garnett is number 1. Not even close

Timmy!

Is it limited to active players only.....cause Patrick Ewing should be Number 1 on that list.

When they sell "game worn" jerseys, are they washed?

Then they wouldn't be authentic!

But for reals, Shaq is the most disturbingly sweaty player in my opinion.

Lamar Odom breaks into a huge sweat right after he starts playing. He wears an undershirt beneath his jersey to help absorb it.
