There was a big change made by Pop tonight. That was starting Roger at point guard. A few people have wanted Pop to do this earlier, or at the very least let Roger run the point more often.

Do you guys think if Roger has the ball in his hands more that he can average close to 20?

We should probably temper the excitement a bit....

I mean he's not going to shoot this well all year long and defenses will adjust...especially good ones. Mason is a gunner off the bench and has done a very good job at putting the ball through the hoop, but he'll also have nights where he takes 10 and only hits a couple.

The guy I'm more impressed with and intrigued by is Hill. No he's not a better shooter, but it seems he is more aggressive at taking the ball to the hole and has done a pretty good job at finishing or drawing fouls.

Sounds a little crazy to say it, but I think Hill might actually be the best "scorer" on the team outside of Tim, Tony, and Manu.

Are you saying the refs don't call as many fouls for the spurs as they do other teams?

I thought Duncan got a few friendly calls going his way against the Jazz, but then again, it was the Jazz. Not like say, the Lakers or some other Stern preferred team.

At least we don't have to see the "Spurs FO is full of morons" threads for at least a little awhile.

Mason has been A LOT better than I could have imagined.

Adding Hill and Mason to the mix is really going to pay off this year.

I just hope Ian can get well and take some minutes away from the older bigs.

Off subject, but if the world economy keeps tanking and people quit buying Tau toilets, can the Spurs realistically get Mr. Splitter in 2010? It just seems like a time waste (outside of the money of course) to play in a 2nd tier league for Eurocups for your entire BBall career. Maybe some of that big cap space could go to TS if Mr. Stern figures out that salary cap adjustments might be needed to assist his member teams in acquiring talent.

The first full season after the Joey Crawford incident, last year, TD went to the line for 5.9 FTAs per game. That's down from 7.1 FTAs per game the year before. His minutes were almost identical 34.1/34.0, and I dont' recall Pop reducing his role in the offense, do you? He actually had 47 more FGAs last year, although that could be a function of no call missed FGAs. Draw your own conclusions...

Shooters go in slumps - so what?

But when this team is full strength, he's going to get a lot of open shots - more than he is seeing now, and more than he saw at any of the other stops that he has made in his career.

In addition, Mason has shown the ability to get to the rim on occasion - which has been a pleasant surprise for me.

He's basically looking like everything that we had hoped Finley would be when he signed 3 years ago (not that Finley hasn't done some nice things as is) - and playing decent to good defense on top of that.

Also - given his reputation as a cerebral player - it's likely that he's going to get even better as he gets more exposure to the system and his teammates. Not necessarily better in the shooting percentage - but better in terms of the overall impact towards helping this team win ballgames.

Keeping the draft pick is very unlikely if the Spurs make the Playoffs. The West has stumbled early due to adjustments and injuries.

But now, Mavs have won 4 straight, Shaq is dominating, Denver & Rockets seem to have things figured out. Utah will have DWill back this week and the Blazers are growing up fast.

If I were to guess, teams will need 47 wins to get into the West Playoffs, 40 in the East.

Bye bye draft pick, hello Lakers.
