I think that ESPN picked that up from a fake news story. I wonder if it's really true.

A fake news story on Fox??
Are you crazy?

Well it's conjecture so far....I was on the Miami Herald website and it shows nothing about Shaq's injury other than being a strain...however if it's true....Karma's a bitch.
As much as I don't wish that upon anyone, it's too bad that any superstar would be sidelined.

I hope this isn't true. Not only is he good for the league, he's a comedic genius in my book.

There was a fake story up on the internet earlier today (not really on the Miami Herald site). I think (but I'm just guessing) that ESPNews picked up that fake story and then Fox is quoting ESPNews.
But who knows? I could be totally wrong and he could be out for the season.

This is horrible.
Shaq has worked his ass off to get in the best shape of his career and now this happens.
I feel so sorry for the Heat fans, who for the first time in their lives had hope at winning the championship....we Spurs' fans at least had the win in 99 before TD went down.
Detroit is now in the Finals for sure.

Shaquille O'Neal won't play before his injured knee is examined by doctors in Miami.
The Heat ruled the center out of Wednesday night's game against the Pacers, and spokesman Tim Donovan said O'Neal would fly home with the team and have an MRI taken Thursday.
His status for the Heat's next home game on Saturday against the Magic has not yet been determined.
O'Neal left the game against the Bulls on Tuesday night after landing awkwardly early in the first quarter. He fell onto Bulls forward Othella Harrington, after going up for an alley-oop pass from Dwyane Wade, and stayed on the floor for several minutes - holding his knee.
He was then helped off the floor and into the locker room.
O'Neal played only two minutes against Chicago and didn't score. O'Neal, who missed a game in December due to a calf injury, is averaging 22.7 points and 10.4 rebounds in his first season with the Heat.link (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1998007)

Nothing on the Miami Herald site.
Nicely done, Jim.
Forge a web site, then write a sympathetic post.
Your best one yet.

If he's having a MRI tomorrow, how can they rule him out for the season already?

dammit, now ESPNnews just retracted their statement. Doesn't look like a tear, and I don't think he is out for the season.
They haven't said anything more about it yet, but they apologized and said it was an incorrect report. More news will of course be ahead.

If his knee was as big as an oil drum this morning and they did a manual check...a good orthopod can probably be 99% on a bad tear...

Covering their ass. Now they'll just pretend they didn't get fooled by an internet hacker.
How can they even say it's just a strain, all they have done at this point is an X-Ray which as I understand it only rules out breaks. For something like a ligament they need to do an MRI so until that time they won't really know the exact extent of the injury, although I am sure they have a ballpark idea of what has happened.

Wow! Shaq is out for the season??!!!

Shhh. We have to get 'Zo to sign so we have someone in the post. Kill the story!
I hope that Shaq is not out, but have a sneaky suspicion that he is. He's been flirting with a major injury since he got to LA and ballooned up in weight. We'll have to wait on the results of the MRI.
Best shape of his career? I don't think so.

Shaq loss of many pounds at the start of the season was impressive, doing his legs a huge favor, but I think he has put some of the weight back on. Imagine his knee injury if he was 40 pounds heavier.

There is no question he lose weight initially, when I saw him at the MTV awards the first thing I noticed was that he had lost weight, I don't know that he's kept it off though....

The issue of MRI for Shaq is an interesting one.
Most hospital indoor MRIs have a weight limit of 300 lbs.
Shaq may need to go to an open MRI. Or maybe even the Miami Zoo's.
