View Full Version : Games you own, but never play

Anybody else own games you've never played much?
Ninja Gaiden II- Loved the first xbox Ninja Gaiden. Brought #2 home on release day and I bet I've only spent 20 minutes with it. Those fucking dogs with swords in their mouths killed me one time, so I quit entirely. I feel pretty weak about that, so I plan to finish it someday.
Halo 3- Never finished the campaign. I did play on Live for maybe a month or so, but almost never anymore.
Gears 2- I wasn't going to buy it, but when I heard everyone go off about Horde, I did. I finished the campaign, but I really only bought it for the multiplayer and to be honest, I'm 100% over it.
Oblivion- I actually put in probably 15 or so hours, but a fucking NPC I have to kill glitched and disappeared out of the game and I can't do shit about it. It sucks because I was really enjoying Oblivion, but it's too much work to start all over. Instead, if I wanna play an RPG, I'll get Fallout.
Team Fortress 2 if that counts- Can't stand the fucking game.

Portal - Will eventually
Assassin's Creed - Never got into it, never will.
GRiD - see above
Tom Clancy's Vegas 2 - Combination of no time and bad first impression (why does the game look inferior to Vegas 1???)

I'm actually pretty good in regards to buying games i know i will want to play... first game i bought for my xbox was FEAR and i dont play it anymore... but that was more due to beating it and buying bioshock.
i stopped playing oblivion because i had put almost 200 hours into it and still hadnt completed all the quests... just kinda got oblivion fatigue... and got sidetracked with mass effect... then got sidetracked again by fallout.

You have to PC MOD the shit out of Oblivion to reach its full potential.
For me, it's NBA Live 08 (for PC). I literally played 20 minutes of it and hated it. I tried to play it a year later and did the same thing.

GTA4 sucked. I played it the entire way through because I kept expecting to see the amazing action and humor from GTA3, VC, and SA, and never saw it. I haven't touched the game at all since I beat it, unlike the other 3 major releases (since GTA3) which I still play consistently.

One of the hardest fucking action games I've played, that and DMC3. I went through the final boss(es) (3-4 stage types) with no health packs, and I thought I would have to retire the game. I eventually beat it after 8 tries, which surprised me, but I wouldn't want to do that again.

Twilight Princess. I've never been a fan of the Zelda series, but after good reviews I decided to buy it with my Wii for the sake of curiosity. Yawn. I played it about 20 minutes over a year ago and really have no intention of playing it again.

I never ever cheat, but if I were to cheat, it would be for money. I hate spending time in games collecting and budgeting my money. That doesn't take skill, it takes patience.
Actually I cheated when I played Oblivion. I really needed a house to store all my loot in. So I spent hours killing bandits, cooking up potions and searching through crates so I could sell the shit for pennies, to merchants who hated me. That didn't take skill, it took hours of mind-numbing boredom. And at the end of the day, I still didn't have shit for money and I couldn't afford a house. So I paralyzed a rich shop owner and stole 300,000 large from him. 5 minutes later I got my house. If anything my skills in Oblivion advanced because of cheating; instead of wasting my time scrounging cash for lock picks and repair hammers, I was actually free to, you know, play the game.

I haven't played any of these but I heard that left for dead SUCKS unless you have friends you know and trust to play it with you. With the right friends, people seem to be loving it. But it's entirely predicated on online co-operation to survive zombies. A lot of environmental/puzzle solving stuff.
Didn't Cry Havoc or somebody make a dead-space thread saying it was cool? I'm over it just because I don't think it has multi-player and as a kind of generic IMO first person shooter, is probably better as a rental than a $60 purchase.
I don't know shit about Fallout 3 other than the fact Bethesda made it, it's been reviewed well and it's engrossing enough to be worth your money. I guess it depends on you liking/having time for role playing games or not.
Prince of Persia just came out and all the reviews are saying it's really fun and just beautifully rendered. It's apparently easy and kind of short though.
If you don't have The Orange Box it ain't exactly new, but for 29 bucks you can't really go wrong with Half Life and Portal. In fact, if you haven't played them it should be a top priority.
I started this thread saying that I didn't play Ninja Gaiden II, but I popped it in the other night and really enjoyed it. Like resistanze said, it's hard as hell, but it's also fairly long, and replayable. Worth considering.

I thought the ending was a bit anti-climactic, though. Both in gameplay (fighting the last boss was easier than taking on a Big Daddy) and story. Still better than a lot of games, and definitely worth playing, but after the bar had been set so high by the rest of the game I just didn't think it quite lived up.

I liked the ending just fine. The protaganist goes on to live a lasting life with a family that he never had. As for the last guy being easy, that probably has something to do with you being a big daddy

Yeah what was up with that? I forgot to buy any health packs going into the final boss (just like in Ninja Gaiden 2 - bad habit) and I thought I was screwed. But I beat the boss on the first try. I also got your ending and I wasn't impressed -- the whole endgame sequence was also too short.

I harvested two of them, but saved all the others. From what I read, there are three special endings: save them all, harvest them all, and harvest one but save the others. Any other combination, including ignoring some/all of them, gets the boring ending.
