Have you seen many games this year? If you are counting on Bowen to get us to the finals we are in trouble. He is done, he got toasted by everybody last year with the exception of Peja....and this year he cant defend anyone, and we all know on offense we play 4 on 5 when he is on the floor.

I would love for him to prove me wrong, but he cant stay infront on anyone, is missing shots, not rebounding well.......why have him out there?

He's actually played good defense for the last couple weeks. And he had a very good defensive year last year, outside of Kobe in the playoffs. But hate on.

I disagree, to an extent. He looked terrible in the first 5-7 games, but has come on and played some great D in crucial stretches since. Sure, we need others to take up some slack because he's not who he was 2 years ago, but he still has it.

Oh, and he's shooting very well (47.5, 40 from 3), and never was a great rebounder. :lol

Bowen was actually doing a great job on Mayo early in the game (same with last time they played Memphis the other night). But when Bowen's off of him, Mayo goes wild. Mayo and Gay are both damn good, though. Can't expect to hold them down.

I understand what your saying, my point is he is a poor rebounder, no threat on offense and now his defensive skills have slipped. Its one thing to have a guy out there who is a total lock down defender but cant give you much at the other end.....but when you go from lock down to just a good defender, your lack of other skills hurt your team.

And remember we have this problem at not only SF but Center as well. Can we win the west with below avg players maning the 3 and 5?

Well, he is still lockdown in stretches, and I think that's what you were overlooking.

He'll play fewer minutes this year, and rightfully so now that we have Manu and TP back.

As for winning the West, I don't think that will happen whatever we do.

Yes, we need a big, and yes we need a long 3, but you were saying Bowen is done and, while I thought he was in the first 7 games, he's since proven that he's not, he just has to be used wisely by Pop.

Spurs 109, Grizzlies 98: Parker returns (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/11/gameday_spurs_vs_grizzlies_1.html)

FOURTH QUARTER

Tony Parker had 15 points and seven assists in his return from an ankle injury and Roger Mason Jr. had 20 points and a big third quarter to help the Spurs beat the Memphis Grizzlies 109-98.

Tim Duncan had 11 points, his lowest scoring output of the year, and 11 rebounds. Duncan completed a three-point play with 4:13 left in the game that extended the Spurs' lead to 13 and got to sit out the final three minutes.

Parker went back into the game for the third time with 4:30 remaining.

The Grizzlies were making a run and cut the lead to 82-79. The Spurs answered with a 3-pointer from Manu Ginobili and a three-point play from George Hill. The Spurs lead 88-79 with 6:03 left in the game.

The Spurs opened the fourth quarter with a lineup of George Hill, Roger Mason Jr., Michael Finley, Ime Udoka and Kurt Thomas. Thomas had five points in the first three minutes of the quarter and the Spurs led 82-74 with nine minutes left.

THIRD QUARTER

Mason scored 14 points in the third quarter and Tony Parker was up to 10 points and five assists as the Spurs finished the period with a 73-70 lead.

Parker hit the floor for the second time at the 5:18 mark of the third quarter. He was part of a three-guard lineup with Mason, and Manu Ginobili. Tim Duncan and Fabricio Oberto were also on the court.

Parker hit his first shot of the second half, a jumper, but then left a runner short on his second attempt.

The Spurs went on an 8-0 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers by Michael Finley and Mason to take a 58-46 lead with 7:22 left in the third quarter.

SECOND QUARTER: PARKER ENTERS THE GAME

Ginobili had nine points to lead the Spurs to a 46-36 halftime lead and Parker was making baskets and assists in his return.

Tim Duncan had a quiet half offensively with only one basket and three points, but eight rebounds.

Parker played almost seven minutes in his first stretch on the floor. He hit 2 of 3 shots for four points, four assists and one rebound. George Hill replaced Parker at the 5:15 mark.

Talk about not making a grand entrance, Parker practically snuck into the game. He made his return to action by starting the second quarter. He wasn't even announced when he entered the game. Despite that, fans started to cheer the first time he dribbled the ball up the floor.

The first time his name was called was when he was whistled for a charge.

Parker had a quick impact on the game, however. He had a made basket on his first field-goal attempt, three assists and a rebound his first three minutes of the game. That helped the Spurs go from a one-point edge to a 25-18 lead.

FIRST QUARTER

Ginobili and Hill combined for nine points in the last six minutes of the first quarter and the Spurs finished the period with a 17-16 lead.

Ginobili entered the game at the 6:35 mark. He made his first two shots - a drive through the left side of the lane and a 3-pointer with a defender in his face. A Duncan free throw put the Spurs in front 13-12 for their first lead of the game.

Finley hit his first shot and Mason drilled a 3-pointer. Both struggled with their shooting on Monday. The Grizzlies lead 9-7 at the first timeout.

The Grizzlies started out with a big front line: 7-foot Darko Milicic and 7-1 Marc Gasol on the floor together. Milicic was guarding Duncan at the beginning of the game.

PREGAME: PARKER COMING OFF THE BENCH

Spurs starters: Roger Mason Jr., Michael Finley, Bruce Bowen, Tim Duncan and Fabricio Oberto. Inactive are Jacque Vaughn, Blake Ahearn and Ian Mahinmi.

Tony Parker is expected to play when the Spurs take on the Memphis Grizzlies tonight at the AT&T Center.

Parker suffered an ankle injury the fifth game of the season and has sat out the last nine games. For the first four games before he was hurt, he averaged 33.2 points and 7.2 assists per game.

The Spurs have won six of their last seven games and have let their opponents crack 90 points only twice in that run. Tonight they will try to extend their overall win streak to four games - which would be their longest of the season.

George Hill and Roger Mason combined for 38 points in Monday's 94-81 victory over the Grizzlies in Memphis. Hill followed that up with Wednesday's double-double - 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 98-88 victory over the Chicago Bulls at the AT&T Center.

Those last two games also marked the first two games of the season for Manu Ginobili, who had offseason ankle surgery. Ginobili recorded 12 points in 11 minutes of playing time in his season debut against the Grizzlies and 15 points in 18 minutes against the Bulls.

The Grizzlies have lost eight of their last nine games, including Monday's loss to the Spurs.

When everyone contributes offensively the way they did tonight, it really lessens the pressure on Pop to play the Big 3 more than he'd like.

yeah, not a good time for the key 1st year players to hit the wall tomorrow but these new guys break the mold. :toast I don't think they're even worried about it but rather Hill, Mason and Tolliver are going to bring back the "game within a game" we used to have, because to me they're really playing right now for the big 3 who are watching: Tony, Timmy and Manu. Mason, Hill and Tolliver swing that way, almost like they've set personal goals of what they want to do, and that focus is reenergizing our D and motion offense.
Just who's doing the guiding for the new guys right now in the Spur's organization?:lobt2:

It seemed like a setup for a typical Spurs loss in that Memphis was playing well and hanging around and the Spurs couldn't put them away.

Then there came the key steal by Manu and Mason, Hill, and Manu on the break resulting in the Hill offensive putback and 1.

Last year, that would have been Manu, Finley, and Bowen on the break and the ball bouncing off somebody's leg.

If Memphis can get their defense on point and get some front court scoring out of Gasol and Darko that team can be pretty good. Gay and Mayo are f'n electric if you give them an inch of daylight.

The Spurs may now finally have enough offense to keep role players like Udoka, Bonner, and Thomas from feeling pressure and forcing offense. The role players have looked comfortable over the last couple, and 50+ bench points is looking excellent.
