I really have nothing to say after the dissapointing loss against the Rockets. Let's hope the Spurs are rested and ready to play.

Team is everything, believe.

Thankfully "The Answer" is fucking up the team for now, hopefully the real Manu is coming to play tonight, and not still-recovering-not-good-on-b2bs-Manu. And hopefully Hill doesn't get more than 1 or 2 fouls called in the first, so he can get a rythm(anyone else notice that word looks wrong even when it's spelled correctly?) and chemistry with Manu going.

Okay, but do you realize how silly you'll look if you're wrong?

The Piston's have looked quite good in stopping Laker and Cav winning streaks, and quite bad in a blowout loss to Minnesota. We're a mixed bag right now, not sure what to expect from game to game (which isn't a good thing).

Really looking' forward to this one, it will be interesting.

With Curry trying to deploy the bench mob effectively, this one could come down to a coaching duel.

Or it could come down to which team can shoot over 40%.

this one could come down to a coaching duel.

God, I hope not. Did you see that lineup with Amir at center and Herrmann at PF?

Anyways, this is a win I would like, it gets followed by a very winable couple of games and if the Pistons could get a little win streak to get them feeling good it would be great.

I don't know what to expect from my Pistons tonight. We've not been a very good team since the trade. No chemistry cohesion or consistency. We look lost.

Hopefully they step it up tonight against the Spurs. The talent's there, it's just a matter of the pieces fitting together properly (which may not happen).

I'm looking for big nights from Stuckey and Tayshaun.

Pistons without Billups are not the same team. He was their leader and now he's gone. Stuckey has been playing well. If the Spurs can stay close they have a good chance since the Pistons have a hard time finishing games without Billups.

I like the Spurs chances, but the Pistons are still a good team.

Side point-- If the Billups/Iverson trade made Detroit worse and Denver better, which is pretty obvious, doesn't that make Billups>Iverson. Two guys who play the same position, switch them out and leave the rest the same--- how could you ever have a better comparison?

Spurs lineup change

Leave it to Gregg Popovich to stir up his starting lineup for the Pistons. The Spurs are starting Manu Ginobili at shooting guard, sending Roger Mason to the bench.

Michael Curry figured Popovich was up to something. Allen Iverson has a history of big games against the Spurs, so Curry thought Bruce Bowen would start at shooting guard. He knew Pop wouldn't leave Mason out there against Iverson. Bowen is still coming off the bench, which will leave Michael Finley on Tayshaun Prince.

Rip Hamilton and Tony Parker will match-up, I am guessing. That will leave Ginobili and Iverson to guard each other and that might be fun. Neither guy can guard the other.

Mike Monroe: Manu starts vs. Pistons (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/archives/2008/12/mike_monroe_man_2.html)

The emergence of Roger Mason Jr. as a legitimate scoring threat has returned Manu Ginobili to the Spurs' starting lineup.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said he wants Ginobili to start the game with the other members of the Spurs Big Three, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan.

In fact, Popovich promised that Ginobili, the NBA's reigning Sixth Man Award winner, will be a starter "in perpetuity."

"It is time for Manu to be on the court when the game starts," Popovich said before tipoff of the Spurs' game against the Pistons at AT&T Center Tuesday night. "This is the way I'd like to do it in perpetuity."

Popovich expects to get the same scoring spark off the bench from Mason that he had come to expect from Ginobili. Mason is second in the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage, at 52.4 percent, and is averaging 14.8 points per game.

I liked TP starting next to Mason. I thought that combination worked well together, as would Hill and Ginobili. I guess either Ginobili finally tired of the bench role or Pop thinks Mason and Hill can combine to have a Manu-like contribution off the bench.

So far I give the move a :td ... but we'll see how it works out.

Iverson is known for big games vs. Spurs? All I remember is AI shooting 35% and making excuses. Maybe some meaningless regular season games, but someone will have to refresh my memory.

Iverson is the most overrated player in the NBA (after Nash) and now it is obvious. Denver with Billups is suddenly a good team. How did that happen?

barbacoataco
12-02-2008, 08:15 PM
I like this move. It keeps the veterans on the court together and gives Mason and Hill a chance to develop chemistry as the 2nd unit. In the end the starting lineups don't matter that much. It is the 5 who finish the game that is important.
How about-
Duncan
Bowen
Mason
Ginobili
Parker

switch Mason for Thomas/Oberto if the other team has 2 effective bigs on the court. Wait, that's the team we've had since 2007--

Gameday: Spurs vs. Pistons (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/12/gameday_spurs_vs_pistons_1.html)

LINEUP AND ROSTER

Young Spurs big man Ian Mahinmi has rejoined the team in San Antonio after a two-week stint with the Austin Toros of the NBA Developmental League. Mahinmi played part of last season with the Spurs and most of the season with the Toros. His start to this season took a detour when was injured over the summer.

PREGAME

It seems like a long time since the Spurs and Detroit Pistons met in the 2005 NBA Finals. Several recognizable faces from that series are still with the teams as they meet tonight at the AT&T Center.

The Spurs still have the Big Three of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. Duncan has started all 16 games this season for the Spurs and averages 20.8 points and 10 rebounds.

Manu Ginobili missed the first 12 games of the season after having ankle injury and Tony Parker missed nine games after suffering an ankle sprain in November. Parker is averaging a team-high 23.9 points and 6.1 assists. Ginobili is averaging 13.0 points in his four games back - a number that is sure to go up as he gets into shape.

The Spurs Roger Mason Jr. and rookie George Hill have yet to wear a Silver and Black uniform in the playoffs. Mason, who signed with the Spurs as a free agent, is averaging 14.8 points and 2.8 assists and has started 12 games. Hill averages 11.1 points and 3.3 assists and has started six games.

Old standbies for the Pistons include Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, who combine for 30.9 points per game.

This will be the first time Allen Iverson has played in San Antonio since being traded to the Pistons. He has played 15 games for Detroit and averages 17.6 points and 5.3 assists.

Another familiar face at the AT&T Center tonight is Pistons assistant coach Dave Cowens, a former Spurs assistant under Bob Hill. Cowens was visiting with several members of the Spurs game-day staff and members of the media before the game. When he was here, we used to enjoy his stories from when he played on some of the legendary Boston Celtics teams.

Please stop with the links.

Tonight, the game blog was just full of people asking for links to online broadcasts of the game. Plus, there were three other threads started about it.

Let me make this clear, if I haven't the first zillion times I've said it, you can't ask for game links, post game links or ask people to PM you game links here at SpursTalk. These are illegal broadcasts of the copyrighted NBA broadcast. We can't have them here. The league has asked us not to do so.

I'm not sure how much clearer I can make it. If the same people keep doing it, after being asked to stop repeatedly, then I can only conclude that they don't want to post at SpursTalk anymore. And their wish will be granted.

Thanks,

Kori

not enough ball movement from our offense in this quarter..let's get some screens and some penetrating/dishing going..

this is no longer a lineup of Manu and a bunch of scrubs..he has Mason and Hill with him now, so we can no longer have too many Manu isolation plays..need more ball movement and keep Roger involved..

it's false. do you watch the game ??

Mason had a lot the ball in his hands. Hill too even if less. they were bad, that's all and it can happen.

Tony has a lot of attention on him from the pistons defense and he obviously gives the ball a lot. maybe too much. let him, manu and him run the offense a little more right now.
