Look, Malik's major issue was that he was 6'5". I don't care how much hustle you show when guys can literally face you up, and shoot right over the top. He should do much better in the East.

I guess Pop was showcasing him.

I feel happy for Malik. I believe the reason he and Pop were at odds most of the time was because Malik wanted to assume more responsibility on the team after Dave retired i.e. he wanted to start. The more Malik forced his game, the more errors he commited and the more he found his way into Pop's doghouse.

Malik is a true warrior who constantly works on his game but he just doesn't have the natural talents to survive in a frontcourt in the west as a starter.

I believe that even if Malik's salary wasn't an issue, he and Pop would still have butted heads over Malik's desire to be more than just a role player. He would have eventually have been traded because of his desire to grow as a player.

Now he'll get that chance. Good luck to you Malik and thanks for the good times.

20/10 r u kidding me. maybe ~15/7 just because its the east.

good luck malik.

Malik on the Spurs was a backup power forward behind the best power forward in the game and had to get a lot of his minutes playing center...

Give Malik 35 minutes a game as a power forward in the East and 20/10 is not an unrealistic number.

Marcus Bryant
02-24-2005, 05:11 PM
If Malik gets the minutes (~30 per game) in NY his averages will be close to 15 pts and 10 boards a game.

Sad day for the Spurs, Malik was a big part of the franchise and as fans we'll never forget some of his plays... I particually like the tomohawk on Dike :)

Anyway best of luck in the future, got get em. Maybe we can pick him up at the end of his contract :)

I put this in another thread, but I can't see Malik ever averaging more than around 12 and 8, because I figure he's probably a guy with severely diminishing returns once his MPG consistenly go above 24-28 minutes.

48 mintues stats can make anyone look better then they are

Malik is a 15 10 player easily if given the minutes.

Spurminator
02-24-2005, 06:28 PM
You guys talk about 10 rpg like it's only a matter of getting the minutes. There are eight (8) players in the NBA averaging 10 rebounds or more.

There are currently thirty (30) players in the NBA averaging more rebounds per 48 minutes than Malik. Would you say that all of them could be 10.0 rpg players if given the minutes?

I hope Malik gets the minutes to put up some decent numbers and have a successful career, but 15 and 10 is a pipe dream.

ChumpDumper
02-24-2005, 06:30 PM
Good luck. You should do well in the East.

ducks
02-24-2005, 06:33 PM
rose will only do well in the east if the knicks traded some players

they have lots of people who play his postion

I hope Malik gets the minutes to put up some decent numbers and have a successful career, but 15 and 10 is a pipe dream.

Malik is a PF...if he wasn't playing behind...oh say the best PF in the NBA, you wouldn't be saying this.

Malik has put up 10 and 6 off the bench playing behind Drob and Duncan...

Malik is a very under-rated rebounder.

Spurminator
02-24-2005, 06:37 PM
If he was starting instead of Duncan, the focal points of our offense would be Tony, Manu, and Rasho down low.

I'm not saying he couldn't string together some double doubles, but averaging 10 rebounds for a season is not easy to do.

Malik is a very under-rated rebounder.

But like I said, there are 30 other players who are better rebounders per minute, and you wouldn't very well say all of them could average 10 rpg if given the minutes.

I'm not saying he couldn't string together some double doubles, but averaging 10 rebounds for a season is not easy to do.

It's harder to do on a team like the Spurs than it is on other teams...Even Drob had a tough time pulling down 10 boards a game after Duncan came here.
