Final: Spurs 123, Warriors 88 (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/12/gameday_spurs_vs_warriors.html)

The Spurs played at a faster tempo than their usual style but executed well at both ends to take apart the lowly Golden State Warriors 123-88.

The Spurs have won nine of their last 12 games, have their key players back and have two days off before taking on the Mavericks on Tuesday in Dallas.

Tim Duncan had 20 points, Tony Parker had 17 and Manu Ginobili had nine. They shot a combined 18 of 31 from the field (58.1 percent) and all three sat out the fourth quarter.

The Warriors shot only 37.3 percent from the field - the lowest of any team against the Spurs this season.

FOURTH QUARTER

Matt Bonner had a 3-pointer, a three-point play and another basket early in the fourth quarter. The Spurs lead 117-76 with less than six minutes left.

During a timeout with 8:12 left in the game, the Spurs took time to honor members of the military in the stands. Gregg Popovich and the rest of the Spurs coaches stopped what they were doing to applaud the military in attendance.

THIRD QUARTER

The Spurs outscored the Warriors 39-18 in the third quarter. The Spurs lead 104-67 heading into the final period.

Fabricio Oberto hit a pair of free throws with 3:30 left in the third quarter to give him 11 points and put the Spurs at 100 points. The Spurs lead 100-61.

There are two reasons the Spurs' Big Three won't have huge nights. First, the Spurs are really spreading the offensive load. Second, the Spurs' key players will probably get to set out the fourth quarter. The Spurs lead 93-58 and look like they'll break the 100-point mark before the third quarter is over.

The Spurs opened the second half with a 14-1 run. Michael Finley accounted for 10 points in the first four minutes of the half with two 3-pointers, a jumper and fast-break basket.

There was a little football-style offense early in the second half. Duncan threw about a 20-yard pass to Finley for a fast-break basket. Missouri's Chase Daniel could use a few completions like that against Oklahoma tonight.

Finley, by the way, hit a jumper the next time down the floor to give him 11 points. The Spurs lead 71-50.

WARRIORS' JACKSON OUT

The Warriors' Stephen Jackson suffered a sprained left hand. He will not play in the second half.

SECOND QUARTER

The Spurs shot nearly 60 percent the first half and grabbed a 65-49 halftime lead. Parker and Duncan combined for 28 points.

Roger Mason Jr. hit two 3-pointers and had eight points in a stretch of about seven minutes. The Spurs extended their lead to 59-39.

Everyone is getting into the scoring act for the Spurs. Oberto had their first two baskets of the second quareter, Mason hit a 3-pointer and Kurt Thomas nailed a jumper on his first shot.

FIRST QUARTER

Parker had 12 points including a driving basket at the buzzer and the Spurs rolled to a 35-21 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In spite of the up-and-down pace of the game, the Spurs played solid defense as well. They held the high-scoring Warriors to 27.3 percent shooting.

The Spurs are rolling on offense. They are scoring almost every time they attack the basket. Plus, Ginobili and Finley have hit 3-pointers. The Spurs lead 28-16 with three minutes left in the first quarter.

You know those long scoreless stretches the Spurs sometimes go through? Don't expect much of that tonight. They made 7 of their first 10 shots and lead 14-8 less than four minutes into the game.

STARTING LINEUP

Spurs starters: Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Michael Finley, Tim Duncan and Matt Bonner.

Former Spur Stephen Jackson ran over to the Spurs' bench and gave Gregg Popovich a hug just before tipoff.

Very little suspense here. It was over before the Warriors walked in the building. Duncan had 20/13/5 in only 20 minutes. We could have won by 60 if we would have played the starters all night.

The best thing about the box score is minutes played. Hill was the only player that logged 30 minutes and TD/TP/Manu only played 20/21/19. Everyone should be well rested for the upcoming back to back.

Duncan scores 20 points to lead Spurs (http://www.nba.com/games/20081206/GSWSAS/recap.html)

Tim Duncan scored 20 points in 21 minutes and the suddenly high-scoring San Antonio Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors 123-88 on Saturday night, the Warriors' ninth straight loss.

Duncan, sporting a new look with his head shaved clean, also had 13 rebounds for his third straight double-double.

The Spurs (11-8) entered the game scoring 93.5 points per contest. But the Spurs scored 108 while winning Thursday night at Denver, and their point total against Golden State was a season high for a regulation game.

Michael Finley and Tony Parker added 17 points each for the Spurs.

Duncan and Finley were both 7-of-10 from the floor, and Parker was 8-of-14 to help the Spurs shoot 55 percent for the game. They shot 61 percent through three quarters.

Golden State's nine-game losing streak is the longest current streak in the NBA. It's the first time the Warriors (5-15) have lost that many in a row since March 27-April 11, 2006. The Warriors shot 37 percent.

Golden State took the direct route to another loss. The Warriors allowed the Spurs to score on 11 of their first 12 possessions. Six of those came on layups, including two by Matt Bonner, who added 14 points.

The Spurs' biggest lead was 41 points in the fourth quarter.

It got so bad for Golden State that Stephen Jackson took the rest of the night off to rest a bothersome arm injury with the Warriors trailing 51-34 with 6:09 left in the first half. Warriors officials announced the injury as a sprained left hand.

San Antonio has scored 30 or more points in the opening two quarters of two consecutive games. The Spurs scored 30 and 31 points in the first two quarters for a season-high 61 points in the first half during the 108-91 victory Thursday at Denver.

Against the Warriors, San Antonio had 35 in the first quarter and 30 in the second quarter for another season-high first half. The 35-point first quarter was a point shy of a season high.

To add to Golden State's misery, the Spurs scored 39 in the third quarter.

While the Warriors looked like themselves on defense - they give up a league-worst 111.4 points per game - their typical offensive punch stayed behind in Houston with the 131-112 loss to the Rockets on Friday. It was the third straight game the Warriors had scored more than 110 points.

But in the first quarter against the Spurs, Golden State 6-of-22 from the floor and was outscored in the paint 18-2.

Notes: Golden State is 2-10 on the road this season. ... The Warriors haven't won in San Antonio since Feb. 14, 1997, when they won 108-94 in Gregg Popovich's first season as coach for the Spurs. ... Bonner started his third consecutive game for the Spurs. ... After not traveling with the rest of the Spurs Thursday to Denver because of flu-like symptoms, Ime Udoka checked into Saturday's game for the first time with 42 seconds left in the first half.

The guy who looked like he was about to cry on the bench was Randolph, and it happened right after he came out of the game and Crawford was talking to him.

Other than that, that was one of the biggest wire to wire ass kickings I've ever seen the Spurs lay on anyone.

It's a popular request tonight, I just put it in the post game quote thread too. :lol

The Duncan quote:

...But Maggette knows what changed. He went north to Oakland, for five years and $50 million, a consolation prize for the Warriors, who wanted Brand more. He took more money than he was offered in San Antonio ("Tim Duncan wished me well, and told me not to take my whippin' personally," Maggette said) to join a more nebulous situation with Golden State.

E-N game blog (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/12/gameday_spurs_vs_warriors.html):

WARRIORS' JACKSON OUT

The Warriors' Stephen Jackson suffered a sprained left hand. He will not play in the second half.

Jackson to have MRI exam on sore non-shooting hand (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/12/07/SPSC14JDK5.DTL)
Bryan Chu, Special to The Chronicle

For almost two weeks, Stephen Jackson has been feeling so much pain in his left hand that it has affected his ball-handling.

It's gotten so bad he will have an MRI exam today.

"Not good at all. Not good at all," said Jackson, describing the pain from his index to ring fingers.

"I think this is the worst one because it's dealing with my hands. Any time I get hit on it, I get affected by it the rest of the game."

A hit came in the second quarter of Saturday's 123-88 loss to the Spurs. It was on a pick-and-roll, causing Jackson, who played 14 minutes and scored six points, to sit out the second half.

"It's not a jammed-finger kind of pain," he said. "I'm already playing with one broken bone in my foot. I don't think I can deal with two."

He added: "I don't want to hurt my team or hurt myself. Like I said, I want to figure if there's something wrong because I definitely think so."

The Warriors will practice in San Antonio today in preparation for Monday's game at Oklahoma City.

Top notch defensive game and the offense is really clicking now. The assists are really starting to pile up and hopefully will continue in the future.

That sucks playing in SA where they were just butt-raped.

I am envious of the fans that got to personally watch this slaughter.

How about watching it, while at the game with an absolute hottie watching it with ya?

How about that for envious :eyebrows

We'll have our chance tomorrow.

(Sort of. Nobody believes the Mavs will ever seriously contend for anything, but they've looked decent as of late)

I'ma be pissed if I can't watch the game. :pctoss
