Anybody going to the game? Come during your lunch break if you live in the Austin area...

By the way, the Toros will be wearing Spurs jerseys at Friday night's Toros games for Spurs affiliate night. The Silver Dancers and Coyote are expected to be in attendance as well.

Tolliver had a nice game. He was red hot from downtown in the second half and made some great assists. On the defensive end, he spend a lot of times on the perimeter and did a quite good job. He even played some SF.

Ahearn was aggressive and drives a lot of to the basket but he didn't look good. He has a hard time finishing at the rim and his defense is really bad.

Andre Brown was the best of the rest. Marcus Williams, Hairston and Gaines were also quite good.

RC Buford and Dennis Lindsey were at the game before taking a flight to Dallas for tonight game.

Dude...

He looks like he's grabbing one of the lights. Look at that light-saberish shining in his hand.

Use the force...

Exchanged pleasantries with RC and Lindsey. I would have tried bending one of their ears but I had family in town that I hadn't seen in awhile. Had a slightly longer conversation with the Spurs' VP of sales about the Toros' name recognition up here and the like.

The biggest problems I saw with the Toros this season were sharing the ball on offense and defending as a team. In this game they really showed their potential to dominate when they do both well. Every Toro who played over 19 minutes racked up at least four assits (save Charles Gaines with a goose egg), and many of the pictures above show just how much they helped each other on D.

Tolliver had a great game as Bruno said; he looked very confident whatever he was doing.

Marcus had another solid game. I need to note that he is shooting just shy of 60% from the arc. His mechanics still look funky, but that has got to help his chances for another call up.

Hairston might think about shooting one or two more three poniters a game as well -- he's 5-7 from downtown while his two-point shooting has gotten over 39%. His low percentage might stem from his trying to go top shelf a little too often. He looks like he could benefit from taking some scoops or floaters after his initial drive.

Andre Brown got his first start and delivered the kind of double-double game that is expected of him.

Ahearn did a really good job of distributing the ball, but his lack of speed really showed on offense and defense. That will probably be the number one thing that will keep him floating in between this level and the next.

Ezra Williams suited up and warmed up but didn't play. After being a big rotation player the first six games, I have to wonder why he didn't even get garbage time. Hopefully he was just under the weather or slightly injured, but a trade can never be ruled out in the D-League.

As someone new to Austin, is this (games during the day on weekdays) something the Toros do very often?

As someone new to Austin, is this (games during the day on weekdays) something the Toros do very often? They usually do it once a season when they bus in local schoolkids to watch a game. This season they had such a crappy schedule due to prior bookings by the Convention Center, they decided to go with two.

Kinda looks like the ball is a big lollipop.

It looks pretty out of control, but Ahearn actually made that layin.

Great pics.

Was the guy on the sidelines with the white shirt with horizontal stripes Abukar ?

Yes, he's been with the team the entire time. That might be bad news for Eric Dawson, but the Toros could make a decision between Tack Minor and Robert McKiver also.

Or make a trade.

Glad to see Tolliver doing well. Perhaps he can actually shoot three-pointers ... judging by his success with the Toros. He must be nervous on the NBA level when shooting.

I hope Tolliver makes it because he has two traits that the Spurs can use -- his hi-low passing and his perimeter defense. Bonner can fill Horry's position somewhat but he doesn't have Horry's passing ability. Tolliver seems to have it and combined with an outside shot, he could be a very good pairing with Duncan down the line.

His perimeter defense is even more important. He appears to be the only big on the roster who has a chance to guard players like Dirk and West. He has quick feet out on the perimeter and the athleticism to challenge shots. In fact, I would have liked the Spurs to activate Tolliver for this Mavs game so he can help on Dirk.

Thanks to CD and Bruno for the analysis. How was Tolliver on the boards? Does he look like a legit rebounder?

He did a good job on the boards this time, but really he's bigger than everyone on the Skyforce except Chris Alexander. Friday's game against Colorado will be a much more substantial test for him as they have four guys the same size as Tolliver or larger.

Thanks for sharing Chump.
I watched the live webcast and most was very annoyed by the play-by-play guy. Damn that guy sucks! Not realy during the game, but not being serious in interviews at the half and post-game.

Friday's game just got a whole lot tougher.

Denver’s Sonny Weems and Cheikh Samb Assigned To Colorado 14ers

NEW YORK, Dec. 10 2008 – The Denver Nuggets today assigned center Cheikh Samb and guard Sonny Weems to the team’s NBA Development League affiliate Colorado 14ers. Samb and Weems become the 10th and 11th NBA players to be assigned to an NBA D-League team this season.

In six games for the Nuggets this season, Samb recorded four points, five blocks and nine rebounds in 23 minutes of action. A member of the Detroit Pistons during the 2007-08 season, Samb averaged 1.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.50 blocks in 7.8 minutes. No stranger to the NBA D-League, Samb was assigned to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants last season, where he averaged 10.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and a league-leading 4.0 blocks in 19 games.

Weems, who was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the second round (39th overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft before being traded to the Nuggets in June, was a four-year contributor at Arkansas. During his senior season, he averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists en route to being named First Team All-SEC by the league’s coaches. Additionally, he earned Second-Team honors from the Associated Press.

Samb and Weems will join the 14ers in Colorado this afternoon and will be in action when the team travels to take on the Austin Toros on Dec. 12 at the Austin Convention Center.
