sorry so random

Would like to hear your take for 2 teams in the 2009 NBA Finals ...

anyhow, was discussing NBA history with a sports reporter and he made some interesting points, I think we all forget....

The last Western Conference team to win a championship other than Spurs and Lakers is Houston Rockets WAY BACK in 1995. 14 years ago!

Crazy.

Furtermore, the last Western Conference team to win other than Lakers, Spurs or Rockets is Seattle SuperSonics in 1979. 30 years ago!

So its been all Lakers, Spurs and Rockets winning championships for the West since 1979. 3 (WC) teams in almost 30 years.

Pretty Remarkable for the Spurs especially having the last Western Conf. NBA championship since 2003.

Historic odds say it has to be Spurs, Lakers or Rockets this year.....

Such a crap shoot this year, though.

Without your homer hats, who do u see in the 2009 Finals?

Spurs/Cavs --> this would be my dream finals this year. It will be tough to beat the Lakers in the Playoffs but I'm pretty content that the Spurs can defeat them. In the East there's only the Cavs and Celtics who can win it all imho. Either way, the Finals will go to 7 games, even with the Spurs playing the Cavs, they look just perfect right now with their tough defense. I don't think the Lakers have a shot at winning the Finals though. When they face a tough defending Eastern Conference team like the Celtics and Cavs they will break down.

Still to many games to be played. But if the POs started today. I think I like our chances more then if they started much later down the road. Both Phil and Doc have both their teams playing so so basketball so that they dont peak right now. And look at their records. That will only make them twice as hard in a few months. As for us we still may continue to make strides. But we all know whats gonna happen once the games starting counting(lose and go home). They're gonna take straight to Timmy like last season. And then we're gonna have to outscore teams. It will be our 3 point shots because the both the lakers and Celtics have defenses you dont just drive in on at will. Against they're layups and short jump shots. In basketball a layup is easier to make then a 3 point shot. (except for Ime,Bruce and a host of players on our squad who can make 3s and not layups). No more, no less.

Without a doubt, it has to be Spurs vs Cavs. And we beat the crap out of Cavs. We sweep them again. Let the world "Witness" the Spurs odd-year phenomena.

Beating the Lakers in the WCF will be especially sweet!

Go Spurs Go!!!!

Spurs vs Celtics is my pick ... would be another dream come true, like SA v Detroit. Think about it ...

Our Big 3 vs. C's Big 3 ... but which is the key matchup? I'd say the most hyped would be Tim v KG, but who knows if that is what it would really come down to and not Pierce v. Whoever (Bowen? Manu? Doubled? All of the above?)

Tough defense from both sides. The Spurs don't have the athleticism the Celtics have on that side of the floor but we could get them out of their comfort zone better than anyone else would.

The battle of the coaches would no doubt swing in Pop's favor, but it would be the chance of a lifetime for Doc to prove himself as more than a coattail rider if he could throw some of Pop's schemes off.

And did I mention TD v KG, in the Finals head to head? Manu vs Pierce? I dunno if it'd equal LA v BOS, but you know a few more people than our usual would be tuning in.

That's my take on it.

Is an odd year plus I know the Spurs realize that thier "window" to win with Duncan is closing. So it will be one last hurrah before Portland,New Orleans and Utah rule the West.

NBA Betting: Fit and healthy Spurs are a challenge for anyone (http://betting.betfair.com/us-sports/nba/nba-betting-fit-and-healthy-spurs-are-a-challenge-091208.html)

The San Antonio Spurs may be struggling this year but their pedigree is not in doubt and, with key players returning to fitness, Nick Shiambouros is backing them for Championship glory.

The San Antonio Spurs are undeniably the team of the decade but these days they appear to be the forgotten team of the NBA.

Since Tim Duncan joined from Wake Forest University in 1997, the Spurs have captured four championships. Duncan combined well with David Robinson and together they were known as the "Twin Towers" until Robinson retired in 2003.

The Spurs are the most successful team since the great Chicago Bulls side of the 1990s and it is hard to imagine why the Spurs have not had the recognition they deserve. One possible explanation is that Tim Duncan is a player who has always let his game do the talking. Even when he was at Wake Forest as a superstar college player he never lost perspective of who he was and never courted the limelight.

Duncan is one of the most respected athletes in America and his philanthropic work off the court is a reflection of who he is as a human being and a basketball player. If you are looking for a bad boy image you are wasting your time here.

This season the Spurs are in eighth position in the Western Conference after a shocking start to the season. They have a record of 12-8 but there are valid reasons as to why they find themselves in this predicament. Point guard Tony Parker and Manu Ginoblili have both been missing with injury and have only recently returned to the line-up.

The team lost balance and chemistry with the absence of Parker and when you lose a point guard of his quality any team would suffer. Tony Parker has improved significantly as a player over the last couple of seasons and coach Greg Popovich must take credit for his success. Popovich stuck with Parker when he was struggling with his game and both player and coach now have a solid working relationship.

The San Antonio Spurs are currently 18.5 to win the NBA championship and have been matched at a low of 7.0 and a high of 50.0 so far. I cant imagine this team not making the play-offs and now that they are fit and healthy I am expecting a good run from them.

Looking ahead to the mid-January when they have to play the Lakers I think that they have a pretty easy schedule. The Western conference is much tougher and has more depth then the Eastern Conference and there are many trading opportunities in the west.
Every team has injury problems in this long season but hopefully the Spurs can stay healthy now and can start a winning run in the west.

I am going to back San Antonio to win the championship at 18.5. There will be ample time to trade out for a profit near play-off time. The very short price of 3.25 for the Los Angeles Lakers to win the title has left the door open for plenty of money to be made on teams like San Antonio.

Can the San Antonio Spurs win the NBA championship? Lets put it this way, with Tim Duncan owning four championship rings stranger things have certainly happened .

The Spurs vs. the Celtics.

Look at the West and you see nothing but injuries this year. Spurs, Jazz, Mavs, and Rockets. The only reason the Lakers are winning so many games early is because all of these teams are injured.
