Terry is a little punk, but I think that was a hard foul that 90% of NBA players would have committed in that situation.

Yeah, probably. Either way, I still don't think it makes it anything more than a hard NBA "No Way Can I Let You Score In Crunch Time" foul. Flagrant, but not dirty.

Nope.

Don't know what so many of you are crying about. Shoog is right. Just your typical "can't let you score that" in a clutch situation. If he had stood over TP after the foul and talked shit or something, then I'd agree Terry was being a punk about it. But like I sad before, he even tried to break Tony's fall. Nothing personal. Just one of those fouls that had to be made in his case.

hater
12-09-2008, 11:33 PM
what a surprise. a dirty play by the "jet" :rolleyes

still I don't see it worse than a flagrant 1.

Aggie Hoopsfan
12-09-2008, 11:33 PM
I'm not really sure how anyone can blow that foul off. He didn't make a play for the ball, he put his head down and committed to the shoulder tackle out about the FT line, and this is like the 38,293,192nd time he's committed a bitch flagrant against the Spurs when it became clear the Mavs were going to lose to us.

I never wish injury on anyone, but it'd be awesome if he fell and broke his leg and was out for the year tomorrow at practice. Fuck him.

I actually thought it was a legit foul. If you watch the replay, Tony looked over his right shoulder and then gingerly laid it up. It's almost as if he did not realize a player was coming from his left, mostly because Tony Parker should have laid it up with ease if he had that kinda lead on Terry. Terry also was just fouling to stop the play, he ran into Parker with that kinda force because Parker laid it up all gingerly and passive.

I honestly think Parker just had a mental lapse and did not see him and Terry did not take into account he was coming in unnoticed.

If Mike Bibby was to do that, spurfan would just say it was a hard aggressive foul. That's all that would be said about it. If a Mav player does it, it gets a handful of threads dedicated to it. I'm pretty sure there were a few threads devoted to the clothesline Dirk put on AK last year in the spur section. The way flagrants are called now it's hard to say this should not have been one. Terry made no play at the ball and tackled Tony.

If he had actually tried to go for the ball while he was tackling him then I think it wouldn't have been a flagrant. In other words, it was a flagrant because Terry was stupid, not because he was being outright violent.

Jason Terry is a decent player. Career averages around 16 ppg isn't bad. But let's not get carried away...there aren't really a lot of teams lining up for an undersized SG who can't defend.

Now, I know there are other's out there who speak differently, but I've never argued that Bruce Bowen does not use questionable tactics when DEFENDING his opponent. But, I've never seen Bruce throw a punch, and I've never seen Bruce horsecollar an opponent in mid-flight. There's a distinct difference between clutching and grabbing (like Bowen does), and downright attempts to injure (like punching and tackling).

If Terry is your 'clutch guy' then I guess that helps explain your success.

Anyway, I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. I could argue that Bruce kicked Allen in the back to get him off of his leg, or I could tell you that he fell for a head-fake and accidentally kicked Wally, but you wouldn't buy any of it. if this was the first time that Dirk choked in the fourth quarter, i would agree with you 100%.

All great NBA players get fatigued but they respond in the clutch. TD played 2 less minutes than Dirk and he will still able to deliver in the post at crunchtime. So if a reported asks Dirk why has missed almost all his shots in the 4th, he should say it was because he was tired. Bullshit

I used to start threads last year in the nba forum all the time, titled "late game special" They were all about Dirk and his late game heroics. I might have to bring that back

Are we seriously going with the Dirk chokes meme for last night? Spurs fans, along with Suns fans, have no business EVER calling Dirk a choker. He owns your team just about 90% of the time...cause you have nobody to guard him.

the 06 Mavs > 06 Spurs. We blew you out on your court without the ref's help, we closed you out on your court without the ref's help, we even spotted you a game with JET's suspension. And Dirk put up 29 and 15 in G6 against Miami, so there goes your "doesn't come through in big games" card.

That is ancient history though, so if you want to rub Miami in my face, there's nothing for me to apologize for. I'm not arguing the Spurs are not a more successful franchise than Dallas, I'm not arguing the Mavs didn't lay a massive egg against Golden State. the 06 Mavs > 06 Spurs.

What I am arguing here is that Dirk's soft choker label is exaggerated, and you guys have no business playing it.

I've already conceded the Mavs were the better team in that series. I'm not rubbing Miami in your face, I only provided it as evidence of Terry's "clutch" play (Remember, we're talking about Terry, not Dirk...but we can discuss Dirk if you want to...he was awesome for 3 quarters last night).

Keep your arguments in order....this was about Terry.

It's hard to win when Dwyane Wade gets 21 FTAs per game, up over the 7 he averaged against the Bulls in the first round. But whatever...

OF course there were, and in particular G6 they didn't play a smart game. Having said that, there's no way the Heat would've won 2 games on our floor going back to Dallas down 3-2. Just as there was no way the Lakers would've won two straight against you without .04.

That's why Avery was so upset after G5, because they did enough to win G5 but Salvatore bailed Wade out. Whatever else you or anybody else says about Avery, he's not an excuse-maker.

The first 4 games of the Mavs-Spurs series were very badly officiated ... it is simply karma Wade getting foulcalls without getting touched in the same thing happened to Dirk multiple times in our series (Dirk pushing Bowen with the off arm and Bowen getting called over and over, tripping over his own foot for Timmy's sixth foul, etc)

The NBA Finals is the championship series of the National Basketball Association and the conclusion of the sport's postseason each June. The series was named the NBA World Championship Series until 1986.

The series is played between the winners of Eastern Conference Finals and Western Conference Finals. At the conclusion of the championship round, the winner of the NBA Finals is presented the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy. (Winners from 1946 to 1977 received the Walter A. Brown Trophy) The NBA Finals has been played at the conclusion of every NBA and BAA season in history, the first being held in 1947.

Since 1985, the winner of the NBA Finals are determined through a 2𣛨 best-of-seven playoff format. The team with the better regular season record has home court advantage (The first two, sixth, and final game are played at its home court) regardless of their respective seeding.

I dont know why people think he kicked Wally on purpose like that. It WAS good old fashioned hustle and defense. I understand the rest of the league's fans dont recognize it because they dont have a player who hustles like this on the DEFENSIVE end of the court. Bruce was late rotating and was trying to get there at all costs. I dont know how people expect Bruce to stop in mid air. He's agile but c'mon damn. He was flying in to block the shot and Wally pump faked and started to drive, putting his face right into the path of Bruce's foot! Watch it real good. Had he not faked and tried to drive he wouldnt have gotten Bruce "Lee" Bowen'd...lol...i love that nickname though
