It's gonna get ugly in Christmas, when boston blows LA by 50.

But this isn't the same King's team - they're really pretty good this year. They've got a lot of young players and I think they've got potential. Beno has been playing great basketball. They can be a fun team to watch - as long as they're not playing against the Spurs!

I told him that was bullshit and to get off that thought. Any team that wins 70 not named the Bulls, with Jordan has to mentally and physically drain themselves for 82 games to hit that mark. Every damn thing has to go right all year, from injuries to chemistry to coaching. It's just practically impossible to do..

The Lakers quite frankly will never win a title with defense like this. This year they have too much talent to be this poor defensively. It's the coaching. Until Phil jackson gets serious about defense we will continue to lose like this against certain teams.

That being said, Kings played their heart out tonight and deserved this win. Remember they did lose their last 8 games, I don't think they were too keen on a 9 game losing streak. They always play us well though, doesn't matter who they have playing.

The Lakers remain to have a shitty D along with no bigman depth is going to be their downfall when it matters in the playoffs. Seriously fans here brag about how deep their bench is yet they fail to see that they dont have any backup bigman. They have great depth at the wings but they have nothing but shit for backup bigman. A great bench is loaded at EVERY position which is something the Lakers dont have.

Right now there are only two contenders and they are both in the East.

The Cavs and Celtics are WAY ahead of everyone else in the league.

The Lakers quite frankly are pretenders right now. Their 17-3 record is a mirage. They will likely win 60+ games this year with their offense alone, but they have nowhere near the defense needed to win a championship.

It's incredible to me how Phil Jackson just refuses to committ this team to defense. The 40 pt anal rapage from the Celtics didn't send a message apparently.

I'll say this right now with the talent the Lakers have there is simply no reason for them to be this poor defensively.

With the Lakers it's really all about matchups. Record really doesn't matter.

If the opposing team has quick speedy guards and bigs that can shoot from outside they have a pretty good chance of beating us because that combination stretches our D out and forces us to play real team defense which we apparently suck at. If they shoot incredibly well from the field and Kobe shoots like shit that ups their chances exponentially.

I will say this though. I'm very glad we're playing piss poor early on, there is SO much time for improvement if this team really dedicates itself to defense. Mitch pulls off an LO trade at the deadline for a real defensive PG or a defensive SF and we can make serious inroads into fixing this problem.

Tonight was a game they should've won by at least double figures.
This team has a history of losing against scrub teams and seems like they learned nothing.

No game is guaranteed in the playoffs, home or away. Regular season win overload can create a self inflated view, as if the Lakers need anymore of that. Real teams win everywhere at any point in time when it counts.

40 point losses on the road in the playoffs is atrocious, especially in the finals. As evidenced by a previous game, things can shoot downhill at home very quickly. Ray Allen walking to the rim is never a good thing. So homecourt although comfortable, it isn't golden. You have to walk through fire to get gold in this league.

It does, but in the end you usually have to win on the road anyways. It's a one game difference, and sometimes that switching of game order is thrown into the mix which just throws all types of issues into the situation. You could be facing elimination as you head home, that's pressure whether you are on the road or not. If you lose one at home early, it could be all over in that scenario.

It's still better to have HCA, but it isn't the end of the world.

Is House any good? I've wanted to watch it before, but never have.

It is. I would check out the first 2 seasons if you are that interested.

Agreed. I always find some humor when the sportcasters make a huge thing about in the pregame commentary of a series. They talk about how a team worked so hard all year to gain the home court and how valuable it is... then the visiting team wins game one... and it's... now we have home court and we only had to work hard for 48 mins. :lol

Yeah we did suck, we make always make point guards look like all stars we need to package lamar and farmar to get us a good point guard or else we are going to get eatin alive by Tony Parker, Rajon Rondo and other good legit PG

I've never seen it... but I bet he could score on our guards! :bang

Dr. House has a bad leg and walks with a limp...so I doubt it.

On second thought, he probably could still score on Fisher/Farmer with that limp of his. :lol

Regular season win overload can create a self inflated view, as if the Lakers need anymore of that. Real teams win everywhere at any point in time when it counts.

Well, records do give an indication of who has the best chance of winning the Championship. You look at all the teams that won a ring the past 20 years, they've all had the top 3 or 4th best record during the regular season. (exception to Detroit who had the 7th best record when they won, and Houston in '95, but they were the defending champs.)

I hope The Lake Show don't talk about their defense tonight, because I don't know how many times they keep talking about stepping up their defense after games like this, but I highly think it will never happen. The Lake Show keep talking about their defense and how it's important, yet they don't do anything worth the garbage defense (if they even have any) that they play. It's all talk and no walk. They talk about it, but don't even do anything about it, or at times seems like they don't even try doing something about it!!

IronMexican
12-10-2008, 02:24 AM
Yeah, I am getting tired of them talking to Trevor or Andrew after the game about stepping up their D. Shit seems to happen at every post game, and it's getting annoying.

It's Phil Jackson. The team is a direct reflection of its coaching staff.

You can't expect them to be committed to defense when Phil doesn't even chastise them for not doing the basics like boxing your man out or running out at a shooter. Phil has been so obsessed with his offense over the years that he has completely missed the boat on defense. We got away with it in the 3-peat years because we had incredible individual defenders (prime Shaq, Kobe, Horry, Rick Fox, etc.).

The lakers lost a game no big deal. The lakers will finish over 60 W and should keep the #1 seed.
As of today no way the cavaliers are better than the lakers.

2- Lakers
3- Spurs

The Lakers bench other than Ariza has played like shit lately and the defense from our PG's has been atrocious. Odom must go for a PG. I'm sure Dr. Buss and Mitch recognize this and are in the works for one. PG's can get to the basket at will against Fisher and Farmar. No way the opposing PG should look like an all-star every night.

IronMexican
12-10-2008, 11:12 AM
Don't even get me started on the D! Did you see after Salmons got the ball and was going up against Odumb, he went baseline without even getting pressured? It was like LO let him get through. Embarrassing.

I heard it on the radio starting from the 2nd and only caught the 4th quarter on internet. But they looked horrible out there. Defense was horrible and way too many jumpshots and turnovers. They really need to up their game if they want a title. Odom must go for a PG.

TheMadHatter
12-10-2008, 01:13 PM
If Odom keeps up this kind of play he has to be traded by the deadline. Josh Powell can do the backup PF job acceptably IMHO. At least he knows how to deliver hard fouls and box out.

This team cannot afford to have two defensive sloths on the floor in Fisher/Radman and expect to win games against all types of teams. We need either a defensive PG or a defensive SF to start the game.

Odom for Hinrich. Get it done Mitch.

I'm a Laker fan....but even I'll admit that the Lakers are not that good...Celtics and Cavs are way better than the Lakers..and I hate to say this but I will admit that by the way the Lakers played tonight..there is NO WAY they will win in Boston on Christmas..Laker fans need to wake the fuck up and stop smoking the ciga-weed.

damn right.. i agree

Well the Laker bandwagoners are jumping ship already. Lakers have them every year.

The Lakers have lost to bad teams on a regular basis since the Shaq days. I don't care as long as they keep whupping the good teams.

The Christmas Day game? The Celtics will go home crying to their mommy.

No need to start a trash talking thread. This is a game the Kings were pretty much expected to win. I predicted that once the Lakers started playing more road games, they'd lose. And they are. No big surprises. Again, no reason to start a trash talking thread when the Lakers are pretty much going to start losing games now. No one is expecting them to get 70 wins because they're not that good. No one is even expecting them to get 58 wins.

Not sure but you were probably right (they had it at the time but not no more:))

I think other teams caught on to the Lakers trapping scheme and now the Lakers have to adjust.

yea lakers wont win 70 it should be obvious now they have plenty more road games against below .500 teams hahaha... the AARP dream team will probably come out of the west unless the lakers start getting it together.

No they proved the exact opposite.

People look at the lakers and go Gasol? Vujacic? Good defense?

They PROVED at the beginning of the season they could, but i was sure they couldn't keep it up. The Lakers CAN it is just a question of "If they will."

The best thing that could happen to the Lakers is if they lose the next couple of games. Let the media salivate over BOS and CLE and take LAL out of the front-running. It has gotten to the player's heads and they are coming into games thinking they can just beat teams without any real preparation or effort. It breeds bad habits that can't be corrected late into the season.

Now it's time to get back to the basics. Practice the fundamentals. Practice defense. Forget about the fucking triangle for a while, the Lakers can score 100pts in their sleep. There is still time left to rectify this.

Quite true. Last year at this stage, Lakers had a 12-8 record, and only because we had just won 3 straight. We weren't even expected to get out of the first round, if we even qualified. As the season continues, expect more threads proclaiming our doom when we drop a game.
