Uh, F-18 don't glide...both engines failed and it dropped like a rock.

But, for an example of cowardly Marines, I give you:

u can haz reeding comprehension!

The Union-Tribune spoke with Steve Diamond, a retired naval aviator who said he found the pilot in a tree behind a house. He told the paper he helped the man, who Diamond said was a lieutenant in his 20s, down from the tree.

The pilot told him that after he lost power in one engine, it was decided he would try to get the jet to Miramar on the single working engine, Diamond told the paper.

The pilot was in communication with military air traffic controllers before the jet crashed about two miles from the airfield, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the pilot ejected moments before the crash and landed in a tree. Jason Widmer said he talked to the pilot, who said he had tried to steer the jet from the homes and into a brushy canyon.

"He was pretty shook up and pretty concerned if he had killed anyone," Widmer told San Diego 6. "He had seen his bird go into a house."

The guy tried and waited until the last possible second. Even if he had remained with the aircraft, it very likely would have hit a house in that subdivision. He might have hit a different house, killed people, and died uselessly.

I think you are being a tad harsh on someone who had to make a split-second decision.

I have seen some shitty things said by political hacks, but this takes the cake by far.

If you have never been in the military, you are a chickenhawk piece of filth for even suggesting this.

Either way, I would rather trust my life in combat to an 76 year old John Murtha to a lying, hypocritical waste of human flesh like yourself.

You must have missed his encounter with the Code Pink group in the halls of Congress.

Plus, calling for deployment to Okinawa ( :lmao ) could qualify as either stupid or cowardly or both.

Not to mention his calling the Haditha Marines "cold-blooded killers" before any of the evidence had been heard or was even known to him -- other than what he spoon-fed by anti-war zealots.

He's a fucktard.

Preliminary reports are saying that military traffic controllers were trying to get him back to the base instead of ditching at sea…Just moments before impact the jet nose dived…The pilot ejected while the jet was in the nose dive….It is a tragic situation for all…

What the fuck does any of that have to do with cowardice, you fucking moron?

You can be a Marine and an idiot. (Though it's rare.) You can be a Marine and a douchebag. (A little less rare.) But the rarest of all Marines would have to be a cowardly one. It takes courage just to sign on the dotted line, not even mentioning what they do once they're in the service.

its an overall sad story....poor immigrant lost all his family and doesn't feel the need to blame anyone, leaving it up to a "god".....i hope he finds the emotional strength to move forward in his life.......

as for the marine....anyone that chooses to serve does so knowing that they will one day have to make life or death decisions....so its too early to blame him for anything, he saved himself and thats what he meant to do....however, if it comes to light that his superiors tried to get him (more importantly his multi-million dollar vehicle) to base instead of just sending a faulty aircraft at sea (losing money and making the lt swim home) then they should serve time........money should never come before life.

leave murtha alone...if you do or don't agree w/his views, he earned the right to have those views by serving.....what about you?

What is your opinion of defamation--you know, slander and libel? Do you think an opinion is different from a baseless accusation? Do you think the word "murderer" has a specific definition?

I think you're a pathetic, ass-licking, motherfucking piece of faggot shit. You fucked your mother.

Is that an opinion that must be respected? Or is that a baseless accusation?

DISCLAIMER: Please don't sue me. I don't really feel that way about you. I don't know you or your mother. If you like the Spurs, you're OK by me. I was only saying that to make a point: calling someone a "cold-blooded murderer" is a horrible thing to say, especially when you're incorrect. Worse than calling someone a pathetic, ass-licking, motherfucking piece of faggot shit.

I'm not a lawyer but, I play one on the internet...sometimes.

Anyway, since you started the sentence with the words, "I think," I think you're on safe ground. It is an opinion of what you think and not an assertion.

Murtha didn't think, he boldly asserted the Marines were "cold-blooded murderers."

thats the american way of launching a terrorist attack against immigrants, crashing a multi million dollar plane into a suburban house, failed, the head honcho is still alive, and now he's out for revenge, maybe a few million dollars reparation will apease him. This was all premediated by the skull and bones syndicate i am sure. The illuminati might have something to say about that though.

You're right. That was a much better option.

It was a terrible accident, and the pilot did what he was trained to do.
