View Full Version : If you could bring back one ex-spur from the Tim Duncan Era...

Who would it be? Outside of the obvious choice of David Robinson and keep in mind our current needs.
I'd have to vote for Stephen Jackson. He's long, athletic, a solid defender and a fierce competitor. Oh and he's a balla!

If we have to keep in mind our current needs like you said, it would be Horry or Hedo over SJax.
It would have been bad-ass to have Jack in the Laker series last year, though.

Capt. Jack...

12-10-2008, 11:17 PM
It has to be Captain Jack. I think Tim misses him more because of how clutch Statjack was. I think if we had Stephen Jackson in 2004, we would've probably won the championship. He was the missing piece and Turgulo had clankfest against the lakers that year.
BTW this video is probably the best sports anthem.

Turk likely wouldn't work in our system; especially with Manu out there.
Sean Elliott without the knee problems would be nice but I honestly feel like if we somehow had retained Buckets we'd atleast have a threepeat under our belts.
Especially when you consider his ability to defend Dirk.

Assuming the OP meant the player at his prime between '98 until now, I'll go with:
1) 1999 Sean Elliott - crucial plays in the (asterisk) championship.
2) 2001 Derek Anderson - To date the most exciting swing man I've seen in SilverNBlack
3) 2003 Stephen Jackson - clutch 3's during the postseason run lead to 1st real title
4) 2003 Speedy Claxton - Splendid and reliable finishing games for a still green TP in postseason.
5) 1999 Jaren Jackson - dagger three's in the lockout run
6) 2000 Avery Johnson - best production out of him ppg wise

Yeah, David Robinson's a no brainer on this one. But for the fun of it, i'd want SJax back.

SJax
who wouldn't like to take SJAX back
tonight vs the Bucks:
Villanueva had his shot literally taken out of his hands on the way up by Stephen Jackson, who fired the steal down court to Azubuike, who was streaking towards the hoop and finished his run with a powerful slam, stretching the Golden State to a game-high 20 points(+7 rbds+7 assts:D)
he's always on fire
I wanna say Will Perdue, but someone might think I'm serious.
Based on current needs? If you get to pick a Spur that played with Robinson, but at his prime - hands down Kevin Willis. 7-footer, averaged a double-double, and got to the line 4+ times per game. Put a young Kevin Willis on the floor with Duncan, and Pau Gasol might decide to move back to Spain. (Honorable mention in that category would be a young Jerome Kersey, even though he didn't have the height.)
If you have to pick them from the year(s) they played with the Spurs? A young, healthy Terry Cummings would be a great addition to this team. Sean Elliott would be a good addition to any team.
And if we are allowed to throw in heavy-duty medication, or a frontal lobotomy? Dennis Rodman's 17 boards per game would really come in handy.

If we couldn't take Robinson back, I would say...
1.) 2003 Stephen Jackson,

3.) 2003 Malik Rose
4.) 1999 Sean Elliott
5.) 1999 Mario Eilie

Nice list, 'cept I have to go with '05 Robert Horry because '04 Horry choked it up against the Lakers.
Sean would be higher if the team wasn't so stacked on the wing right now. But damn it would be nice to have either Horry or Rose in the fold right now.

While he is the obvious best player, he doesnt help our needs. Were a little over crowded at gaurds.
So best SF or big men?
At there all time best? Id go with Willis, Kersey and Sean. Now if asking their best during how they played for the spurs, then its gotta be Sean. There was alot of decent big men, but nothing worthy of a selection.
Now all time Spurs?
Terry Cummings, Artis gilmore, Frank Brickaski, Mike Mitchell
for fun, ZARKO PASPAI, however its spelled

Stephen Jackson who would hold done the starting SF spot and Manu and Bowen can rotate the Sg. Changes the dynamic of what the Spurs could do and possibly could have brought the first back to back in 2004 when Jak was improved.

Buckets could easily play small ball PF, hell he had Dirk pissing his pants in the Dallas series a couple of years ago.
Outside of him, you'd have to say Malik when he was playing for the minimum, Horry before he got old, and just to stir the pot (I thought about this last night but didn't want to say it) you'd have to consider Scola as well.

I cant believe no one has mention George The Iceman Gervin. With him on the presant team there wouldn't be a scoring droubt ever again. Just imagine though if we could get back David and Gervin with a line up of:
pg. parker
sg. ginobili
sf. gervin
pf. duncan
c. robinson
I think we we would go 81-1 through the season.

He said D-Rob was the obvious choice. And no, we don't need GAURDS either. Horry? Even Bonner 2008-09 is tearing the shit out of what Horry would do game for game his entire career with us in the last few weeks. Horry was a scrub until the playoffs...
