From Ken Rosenthal's blog...

9:32 p.m. — Source: Tigers to aqcuire Edwin Jackson
The Detroit Tigers are set to acquire right-hander Edwin Jackson from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Matt Joyce, according to a major-league source.

Tampa Bay, with David Price on the way, had a surplus of starting pitching. Jackson, 25, was 14-11 this year with a 4.25 ERA.

In exchange the Rays get a 24-year-old, left-handed-hitting corner outfielder who hit 12 homers in 242 at-bats. -- Ed Price

Looks like the Rays are making room in the rotation for David Price and add another candidate to the never-ending search for an everyday RF.

The Tigers get a power pitcher with good stuff, but questionable command.

BTW, the only reason I posted this as a seperate thread is because I know there are so many Tigers fans on the forum.

I was wondering if you could give me your impressions of Joyce...

Well, the news short pretty much said what you need to know about Joyce. He hit 12 homers in about 240 at bats. Pretty good ratio. Figure he gets around 500 at bats, and you can do the math. Obviously has some pop in his bat. Above average athlete, slightly above average speed, good but not spectacular fielder. A solid looking player and he's a lefty bat, which always makes a player more appealing. Last year, he looked like he could be a solid everyday fielder on a team.

Thanks for the input JamStone...

Based on that plus what I've read, he's got the inside track for the left side of a RF platoon, which plays the majority of the games. Hopefully he continues to display that pop in his bat.

Now the Rays just have to find the right side of that platoon...
