Nets Sean Williams Still Disgruntled

There was a lot of interest by the folks in ST about this guy being a possible trade target for the Spurs. In case the Spurs or any other team are still interested:

Sean Williams has not found a home with the New Jersey Nets and has been frustrated with his lack of playing time.

"I'm going to come to work as early as possible, stay out there as long as possible, be the best player I can at the end of the day, and do what I got to do -- what's best for the team and myself," he said. "Not much choice otherwise, know what I'm saying?"

His only alternative is to request a trade, which neither he nor agent Charlie Grantham have done. But Grantham doesn't dismiss it as a possibility down the road.

"I think he's done everything they asked of him," Grantham said of his client. "He's worked hard. We just have to see how things unfold. They've got a large number of up-front players, and if Sean continues to work, things may change. It's early to forecast."

Asked whether he would seek permission to broker a deal, Grantham replied, "To this point, we have not engaged in that discussion. But it's December. That's not to say that won't happen."

i know there's the stigma that the spurs can have ONE malcontent on the team - but in recent years, it definitely appears that Pop prefers that number to be zero.

If we could get him our D would really be top shelf! Spurs are fools if they dont try to grab this guy. He is a shot blocker and changer, runs the floor well and is a good rebounder. A real tuff guy that we dont have right now!

The bad: Low basketball IQ (according to hoopshype), has had issues in the past with attitude, very little offensive skills.

Nets would possibly take a back-up PG such as vaughn (and his expiring contract)and 2nd round pick. The nets really do not have much behind Harris on that roster. They really do not have to make any kind of move since his contract is very low.

I'd trade for him and send him to Austin for the remainder of the year. Thorn typically drives a hard bargain, though, so it's doubtful the Spurs have enough.

He plays when he wants. He knows hes not in NJs plans and is getting garbage mins......If he gets with a good team who has a coach that can handle players like him he will be a 10-10-3 guy! Remember no one wanted Jax for the same reasons....poor shooter, defender and rebounder for size....didnt wanna play and NJ gave up on him. He came to the spurs and look what it did for us:lobt2:......Williams could do the same. We get him I think we are the team to beat!

Williams over Tolliver is a major upgrade in terms of sheer talent in our frontcourt, disregarding Tolliver's primary use in stretching the floor (if his shot ever comes back). So that's an easy roster spot to free up. I just don't see Williams staying on the floor long enough with his BBIQ and questionable work ethic to make much of a difference, even if we could obtain him with filler and second round pick/s.

I wouldn't necessarily oppose a deal for Williams..I'm just saying he won't be what a lot of you expect, at least not for a few years..the main problem would be our offer..we won't be the only team interested in Sean, and there are certainly teams that could offer a better deal than the Spurs could..

we don't really have any good salary dump offs..we don't have any players that the Nets could use either..Vaughn is useless to them, since Dooling is a much better player, and he's considered a "hustle guy", just liike Jacque..Udoka is useless to them, since they play Simmons and Hayes, with CDR and Najera waiting(and neither of them get any playing time..both better than Ime)..

I wouldn't give up Kurt for him..Oberto, I would be open to, and the Nets would probably consider it, but it wouldn't be as good as some deals other teams can offer..remember, Rod Thorn has made a living ripping people off, he doesn't get ripped off very often..

The spurs could offer vaughn....who thorn likes and who played for NJ a few years ago. NJ is looking for a solid pg......dooling and harris are not natural pgs and dooling is very spotty as a playmaker. Give him vaughn and a draft pick. Williams will be gone in 2010 and the more he sits the more value he loses!

New Jersey’s Williams Assigned to Colorado 14ers

NEW YORK, Dec. 29, 2008 – New Jersey Nets forward Sean Williams was assigned to the Colorado 14ers, the Nets’ NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. Williams is the 15th NBA player to be assigned to his NBA D-League affiliate this season and joins Sonny Weems and Cheikh Samb, both currently on assignment from the Denver Nuggets, on the 14ers roster.

Drafted by the Nets with the 17th overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft, Williams has appeared in 16 games for New Jersey this season, averaging 1.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 11.1 minutes. Williams appeared in 73 games for the Nets last season, 29 as a starter, and averaged 5.6 points and 4.4 rebounds.

Williams, 6-10, was a three-year contributor at Boston College where he averaged 5.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in 69 career games. During his senior season, Williams averaged 12.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.0 blocks in 15 games.

Williams is expected to join the 14ers tomorrow and be available when the team hosts the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at the Broomfield Event Center. Tip off is set for 9 p.m. ET.

It actually works well for him since he'll be playing in front of scouts from every NBA team and many others at the showcase next week.

I think he could be a legitimate shot-blocker and defensive stopper, a la Marcus Camby, in this league. He's definitely raw, but if he's available for cheap the Spurs should definitely look his way.

Of course, it won't happen.
