I'm taking some tamales to work for our Christmas party. I really don't know anything about what places makes them and where it's best. I want to take some quality ones but I don't have the time/money to sample a bunch of places. any recommendations???

dont try rositas unless you live in austin because from that point on... no other al pastor taco will suffice

Shit... I'll have to check it out, since right now I've never had al pastor anywhere else at all comparable to what you can get from the street vendors in Tijuana.

yeah, uh.....I think Delicious has gone waaaaaaay downhill myself.

Last year my cousin got some from a joint from the hood that the tamales were super moist and flavorful. I'll see if I can't get a hold of her to see what the name was for ya

My sister is having her yearly tamale making party this week ,you can stop by and learn how to make them or put in an order. She makes all kinds even desert tamales.

She works at Beto's off 410 and Broadway stop by. ask for Jennifer.

I like Rubens tamales myself.

That's what happens when you get to popular and you cut corners. Kinda like when Taco Cabana used to be great Mexican food at one time.

Look in the news paper or Criag's list nothing beats homemade when it comes to tamales. :tu

You can also go to a popular lounge/Bar on the south side and ask around there is always someone local that makes them.

I have pretty much given up on all the local SA tamale factories. NONE of them do a good job anymore. Of the "big" name places I probably like Adelita's on Fresno the best, but about 1 out of 4 times they blow it and get the masa wrong...but when they are good, they are good...

The best tamales I have found recently are at a little drive through beer barn on 476 about 8 miles east of Poteet. a local lady makes them for them (only on the weekends) out of wild hog. Just the right masa grind...not too doughy and not too greasy...

My friends and family think the best ones are made at my house :p: It's quite a chore, but the results are priceless.
