Bowen and Bonner (+ pick maybe) for Sefolosha and Tyrus Thomas? If I was GM I'd consider it...

if we were a rebuilding team.

but for 2008-2009:

bonner > thomas
bowen > sefolosha

you take away our best perimeter defender and a big man who helps stretch the floor, and replace them with two athletic young guys - but neither of whom fills a role that would make this team much better.

Why would the Bulls do that? Trade two lottery prospects for a once was, a never was and a late-20's draft pick?

I don't think highly of Thomas, or rather, think he's a mid-level talent, but each is the better long-term prospect of the Spurs package, so for a young, rebuilding team like the Bulls, I don't get the reason for the trade.

Given what the Bulls are right now - I don't see it from their perspective either. Bowen/Bonner are much more valuable in terms of the roles that they fill for the Spurs than they would be to the Bulls (or most other teams).

But who cares that those guys were lottery picks back when? It's a sunk cost. If you re-drafted those years now, neither would be a lottery pick. Patrick O'Bryant was a lottery pick from Thomas' draft as well - and his value was just set by the Celtics this offseason as not much more than the league minimum.

Hell, Matt Bonner's rookie year in Toronto was more impressive than anything Thomas has done in 3 years...

Sources say guards Larry Hughes and Thabo Sefolosha and forward Tyrus Thomas are the Bulls who are very much available on the trading mark.

The Bulls, however, aren't ready to part with second-year center Joakim Noah, one insider insists, even though Noah appears to have frustrated first-year Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro as much as Thomas has.

I would at least listen to a trade like..Bonner & Thomas for TT, Sefolosha & a pick...taking Bonner & Kt out of the equation definitly does not help us win it all this year, but to be able to get a couple of former lottery picks for a couple of role players that are not in the long term plan, would be too good to pass up...we get younger, more athletic & start bringing in guys that could be here after TD leaves....Mahinmi, Tyrus Thomas & Sefolosha would be a good start.

Available doesn't mean they'll give Thomas away. Getting Bowen and Bonner and a late-1st is like giving him and Thabo away. It does them zero good. They need a mid-round pick at the least, and likely would want at least two 1sts if they are packages both Thabo and Tyrus together. Two mid-1sts or one top-10. Otherwise you keep 'em and see what happens.

God damn I hate threads like these.

These threads were pointless enough when we were 1-4.

I can't even think of an appropriate word to describe them now.

Bonner: 6'10", 240
Thomas: 6'9", 215

Bonner
55.9 FG%
51.9 3PT%

Thomas
34.6 FG%
0 3PT%

Thomas is still living off of his last NCAA tournament performance. What has he done in the NBA other than be an undersized high-jumper with a low FG% who doesn't always give 100% effort?

I'm actually on your side that the proposal makes little sense for Chicago.

But you VASTLY over-value these two. If you re-drafted their drafts with the benefit of hindsight, TT & Sefalosha wouldn't be picked in middle of their respective drafts now - so why in the hell would each be worth a mid-first round pick?

19-20 year old athletes who are raw with potential are often worth mid-first round picks. 23-24 year old athletes who have been in the league for a few years and are still just as raw as the day that they came in...their value plummets.

I'm glad you're not the GM then. The entire league would laugh their ass off at us. Tyrus Thomas is not the player for the Spurs. He can't even get consistent minutes in Chicago against equally suck-ass Joakim Noah (the hype of that guy was ridiculous). Look how long it has taken to get Bonner where he is. Tyrus Thomas would never get the spurs system. I would rather just keep developing Tolliver actually. I don't see the need for Sefolosha either.

And I thought Pop was the only one who loved Old players. Looks like some of the fans dont want to get better either.

Sefolosha is a player I'd inquire about. I'm sure the Spurs have. If the cost isn't too high, go for it. He's a smart swingman with some talent.

Tyrus Thomas is a bust. Forget him.

Forget trades with the Bulls, both teams have the same needs. The need for a big body that can defend and rebound.

Tyrus Thomas is actually a luring one...Thabo is alright. I dunno why Bulls will do it though but with all stupid trade thats going on nowadays for the sake of money or whatever reason (Camby trade,J Rich trade, Randolph trade) anything is possible then...

Bonner and Bowen are useful right now....But if Bogut is available than let's do it (which is unlikely)
