The Spurs are third in the west. Anyone really think they have no chance to catch LA?

Had Denver lost last night, we could have moved into 2nd with a win tonight.

It's still too early but I'd be willing to bet that the West teams will be fighting for the #2 spot.
If you look at the Win Percentages, about 60-65% is perfectly normal for this time of the year. So most teams will be right around here.

we're only five wins behind them.
if they lose a few here or there and we keep playing, i think we have a legitimate chance just as much as anyone else does.

No one could have predicted how things have come around so early. It is a looong season. Tim says that all the time.

I don't want the Spurs to play the " catch me if you can" game
It's not their style anyway, I prefer them to take it gradually

They won't catch the Lakers unless the Lakers suffer a major injury to one of their key players.
Still would be nice to get the #2 seed, though.

Kobe goes down, and definitely so. Any of the big 3 goes down, definitely not. Both teams healthy, there's a chance but it'll be tough.

It's way too early to get excited about this shit. It's only a 3.5 game ride down the elevator from second to lottery in the West right now. Expect a lot of yo-yoing.

It's nice to have your team on top and not walking the dog, though.

Yeah, we have a mathematical chance because we play the Lakes 3 times alone. Otherwise, we need another big to help Tim. Look at it this way...We are clicking earlier that I've ever witnessed a Spurs team click..they are only going to get better. I have my doubts about them being able to compete in a series against LA because we need another shot blocker and defender to tie up Gasol and Bynum. We need a young athletic big (Mahimi)!!!:lobt2::lobt2::lobt2::lobt2:+:lobt:= 5

Some of you dumbasses need to go back and read the posts from a month ago, when the Spurs were going to be unable to make the playoffs in the west because Manu and Parker were out and Timmy was having to play so many minutes. It has less to do with being excited than it does to point out that not only is all not lost, but the Spurs have already caught up with the rest of the division and have the others within a reasonable distance, and have done so before many of you even thought Manu was going to be back. Those of you that think the Spurs are going to suddenly drop out of playoff contention while fully healthy need to have your head examined.

I dont see us catching them. Not out of the question but LA is a regular season team, they are biuld to score and win games during the season. In the playoffs things tend to slow down and coaches shorten their bench so LA sould slow down as well.
SA is biuld for the long haul, we will take some nights off to rest guys and lose games we could when if Pops would play starters longer mins. I think LA is gonna win 65-67 games the Spurs sould win 59-62.
Unless LA has a major injury to Kobe or Gasol I dont see them losing alot.

The one upside to the lack of Spurs broadcasts on League Pass lately has been hearing the other teams broadcasters noting the Spurs quiet resurrection. Literally every broadcast during this streak has had someone say something about the Spurs playing like contenders "under the radar" which kind of makes me wonder how a team can go unnoticed when everyone is noticing how unnoticed they are.

They are positively the Utah Jazz (with Karl Malone). :) Chauncey Billups has had a great impact on the Nuggets. How about that matchup with Utah in first round?

The Lakers have enjoyed health to their four best players, if Kobe or Gasol goes down Lakers could fall back but otherwise they will have the best record and let them have it. Pop is not going to stress the best record if he gets the first series or two at home.

IF the spurs beat the lakers all three times they play this year (in the regular season), then they have a chance at first place.
i think Pop might stress those wins, especially if it means home court the entire season.

So you don't think it's possible that the Spurs could play five games better than the Lakers in the next 60 games? Actually, the Spurs only need to win two of the games against the Lakers to have the tiebreaker.
