Girl: Ron Howard?
Cartman: Right! Ron Howard! And uh... Aaaaand...
Older Boy: Ron Howard? [the other redheads look at him]
Cartman: Right! We already had him, but right! See? Ginger people go on to do amazing things in society! We need to let everyone in this school know that we are not inferior! That we are in fact beautiful, totally awesome, and super-smart. It's time for us to take back our pride!

South Park hasn't received the memo.

If your getting minutes and the guys your fighting for minutes are Fab and Kurt. You should be playing good basketball. But Matt isnt gonna take us far in the POs. And the NBA knows it. They will allow him to shoot open 3s all game long. When we start playing tough teams thats when the real Matt will show up. And thats no good. Like Fab and Kurt Im not gonna like him. But at least he can score instead of choke all the time. Best thing we can do with Matt is hope someone out there is dumb enough to trade us for him.

I would say we really don't know what Matt will do in the playoffs. After all, we did not see the current Matt coming so it is equally possible that Matt could be a giant killer in the playoffs. Even right now I find myself wanting him to get the shot when he's on the floor cause I know he can nail the three. I also love how is starting to irritate other teams bigs by just being a pest. I already can see the Stoudamire melt down, that is if the Suns are in the playoffs.

Has there been any other Spur in the past who had such a reversal of fortune after a couple of lackluster seasons sitting on the bench.?

Hard pressed to think of one in the recent past.

Bonner looked like he had sealed his fate earlier this season. I thought that trip to the doghouse would be his last.

Instead, Pop gives him the surprise call and he goes out and has one good game that turns its all around, and suddenly the guy is everything the Spurs wanted when they signed him.

Talk about lighting a fire.

Speak for yourself. I am not surprised at all by Bonner's play. The only thing I am surprised by is that the referees are actually starting to give him an ounce of respect, ie not calling a foul on him for being in the immediate vicinity of an offensive player while having red hair. Apparently this is an unwritten rule in the NBA rule book. A white player with red hair may not attempt to guard, or be in the immediate vicinity of an african american player without a foul being called, unless 50 percent of his 3 point shots are going down.

I never called myself the original Bonner fan, and I didn't have internet at that time anyway. I was not a Bonner fan when he was in Toronto, so I would have never called myself that.

But I gave him mad props for his game against HOU when we came from behind and won, only for countless souls to say "Every single player can ahve one good game, he BLOWS!!1111111". Where were you then? Or when I made a thread that very same night to congratulate him on his player and Pop for unbenching him?

When the going was toughest for Bonner, aka DURING the season not in september, no one but me was blindly homeristic. Hence back when I was the only Matt Bonner homer :hat (I know whottttt has always been on the bonner bandwagon, but he was not around for some reason)

No one was giving matt bonner any chance when he got doghoused early on. Dare I go back and search your posts during that time period?

I love the Bonner love, but seriously, no one gave him a fighting chance and I was just as surprised as everyone else when Pop put him in the 4th against HOU that fateful night. So don't act like you knew all along because not even a blind Bonner homer thought he would have gone through a stretch this great.

Okay I take that back but I didn't think pop would've allotted him the minutes to go through a stretch this great :toast Here's to being happy about being wrong.

Slomo must be delighted to have to handle such a mailbox.

The bonner thing si so funny. I mean if you're reading ST since he arrived, the guy has been everything from Jesus to Satan. Deep deep Pop's doghouse, starter performing well...
I really do hope, he can play that well for most of the year. His rebounding and ability to spread the floor is truly the thing that takes the spurs to another level. When you can get that from your starting center (supposedly the weakest position in our rotation), you know you're in good shape.

Exactly. I don't even see any of the names of the people who claim to be Bonner's number one fan in the original thread when the Spurs traded for Bonner (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44516&page=6). Like I said in that thread, Bonner was one of my favorite players even before the trade and I liked the idea of him starting at center next to TD. :hat

I also have to give myself props for saying Bonner's rebounding would improve. Since coming from Toronto, he went from averaging ~6 rebounds per 40 minutes to about 9.5 rebounds per 40 minutes.

Seriously though, I'm glad Bonner has finally got his chance. After it looked like Pop gave up on him and Bonner gave up on himself, I thought his time with the Spurs was over. Once in the doghouse that far, hope seemed lost because there's no precedence of a player finding his way back into Pop's good graces.

Thankfully it looked like I gave up on the Pop and Bonner relationship too soon and Bonner can go back to role I first envisioned of him.

I said this as soon as I heard about this deal, but Bonner will see some oppurtunities here. My initial thought was an absolute Danny Ferry clone.

6'10 but perimeter orientated, hustling type who would get under your skin by just trying harder than you. Also, he is white .

He will see some open looks with Timmy drawing the doubles, and dish outs from our penetrating guards, San Antonio is a pretty good fit for him because the strong team defense should be able to hide a fair bit of his defensive problems. He will have a lot of games where he goes 5/6 3/4 4/6 on FG's and will more than likely be a coaches and teammates favourite.

Nice player to have around.

He's a little over 2 years late in doing these things, but he is doing them :)

One doesn't have to have insider info on someone to have been their fan since they came to the team, nor do you need to claim to be the driver of a bandwagon that will empty again as soon as Bonner misses a shot. Time will tell who the real Bonner lovers are.

I was playfully attesting to the lack of Bonner love so recently, not a knock on longtime Bonner fans who arent around right now or lurking.

I just knew that one day he'd physically grow to an NBA height and be a valuable addition to the Spurs.
