In today's french newspaper "L"équipe", there is a report that Spurs are interested in Mickael Gelabale.

He played last year for Seattle and is coming back of an ACL surgery. He is currently practicing at full speed in Dallas where his agent (the same than Mahinmi's and Batum's one) lives. He should be cleared to play games in 3 weeks. Spurs, Mavs and some European teams are said to be interested in him.

There isn't more details in that report. It is possible that Spurs' interest is only remote but I just wanted to share the info with you. :toast

Would be a good pickup! He is a good defender and can shoot the three. Spurs considered drafting him over Ian that year.

He was decent when he got minutes last year from what I can see. In the 7 games where he played at least 20 minutes he averaged 12.3 ppg, 56% FG and 50% 3PT. He could be a little bigger for 6'7. Has he bulked up any since last year? Anyone know how he is defensively?

I'd give him the 15th man on the roster and then IR Udoka.

Gelabale is a pretty good defender and decent offensive player.

He kinda fits the Bowen mold IIRC.

When I saw the title of the thread I knew who was the poster :p:
I recall reading a couple of post from you wich were quite nice for Gelabale.

He's really interesting imo. His abilities and his personality fit really well our team.

If he can play defense I definitely want the Spurs to take a look at him.

Nice call, Bruno. You talked earlier about how the Spurs would be interested in Gelabale :tu

I wouldn't mind bringing him in and letting him practice with the team for the rest of the year. I don't think he'd get many minutes at all but the Spurs could definitely use a prospect who can potentially defend on the perimeter.

Besides, his agent has helped out the Spurs a couple times ... wouldn't make helping him out. Perhaps a guaranteed contract for the rest of this year and a partially guaranteed contract next year would make some sense.

I thought he was more a red herring that year so people didn't know we were interested in Ian.

There seems to be a lot of momentum for getting rid of Ime. Just because he's not playing doesn't mean he absolutely sucks or should be dropped. Finley plays a lot but that doesn't mean he's great.

hes pretty young too right? seems like a promising prospect for bruce to help out. i dont think ime will be here next year unless he starts stepping it up.

I'm always concerned about anyone having ACL trouble or recovering from ACL.

...yet the current wing players are playing as though they're recovering from ACL trouble.

IIRC, Ime's a player that recovered from an ACL injury earlier in his career. He might have actually had problems with both knees. (Not that you'd know with his freakish athleticism.:lol)

You really did a good job at becoming one of the worst ST poster ever in such a short time. Congrats.

definitely a cheap upgrade over Udoka and a guy who fits in with the team. I'd do it and waive Ahearn.

ahearn was already waived so we have a roster spot open already. i do wonder what would happen to udoka if this were to happen.

Great vertical jump.He played in Spain 2 years for Real Madrid so I saw this guy a lot.Real Madrid is my favourite team in my country. He won both years the slam dunk contest of the spanish ACB league. He wasn't ready to play in the NBA but he wanted to try.He was a role player in Europe,7th or 8th player of the roster. He has to work his shot a lot.He didn't have a great shot from long-medium range
He usually use his athleticism to score in the low post.Good defender because he had a great physical condition and he isn't old so he can improve if he's healthy. He was really thin.I guess he won some weight in the NBA

update about Gelabale in french site "L"équipe.fr"

He's almost ready, he's in Dallas practicing.
he should start playing in 2 or 3 weeks and should play in the d-league ( don't know where yet) hoping to come back in the nba.

I do hope the Spurs take a look at him, but I fear it will be to late for this season. doesn't make much sense to carry another recovering player (alongside Ian), who won't be able to make an impact this season.
maybe next summer (assuming he signs a cheap contract)?

If we are not going to explore options on the front line right now I would be all for giving him a 10 day contract.

His agent is saying that two top teams in the west (Spurs and Mavs ?) are interested in him but that he wants to get playing time.
That's why he will sign first in D-League.

By him working out here in Dallas, I was afraid the Mavs had their tenticles up on him. Hope he signs to play in Austin, rather than Ft. Worth.
