San Antonio Spurs @ Orlando Magic
12-18-08
7:00PM Central Time
TNT

After a disappointing hiccup in a fourth quarter which saw the New Orleans Hornets finish on a 23-8 run, the Spurs don't have much time to dwell on their last loss. Less than 20 hours after the final buzzer sounded in the Big Easy, San Antonio is set to play against a surging Orlando Magic team which sits atop the Southeast Division at 19-6.

Dwight Howard has made every indication that his knee will be ready to play, and Hedo Turkoglu has been an assassin on the court recently. The Spurs will need to get their collective psyches together quick if they hope for a bounce-back victory in Florida.

I'm glad we're playing an easy team tonight. After losing last night, this easy W tonight will get us back on track. There isn't anyone on the Magic of All-Star quality. Just take care of business, put the ball in the hoop. Easy W.

Gameday: Spurs vs. Magic (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/)
By Joe Alexander

The Spurs will try to bounce back in the second game of a back-to-back when they take on the Magic tonight in Orlando. (6 p.m. San Antonio time)

The Spurs had won six straight before running out of offense in the fourth quarter and falling to the Hornets 90-83 on Wednesday night in New Orleans.

This is the first meeting of the season between the Spurs and Magic. They play again Jan. 11 at the AT&T Center.

Last season the Spurs beat the Magic 128-110 at the AT&T Center. Tony Parker led the Spurs with 32 points and nine assists and Manu Ginobili came off the bench and scored 27 points. Dwight Howard had 34 for the Magic.

The Spurs also beat the Magic 107-97 in Orlando. Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 28 points off the bench and Michael Finley had 24. Dwight Howard had 24 points and 21 rebounds.

Here's the latest on Dwight Howard:

Kyle Hightower, Orlando Sentinel
Magic center Dwight Howard is expected to suit up tonight against the Spurs. Howard has missed the past two games with a sore left knee.

Great test for the Spurs since Dwight Howard is back. The Magic have one of the strongest starting frontcourt in the league with Lewis, Dwight and Turk. They have dead eye shooters all over the floor too. Jameer Nelson has been playing excellent lately. This is not the Orlando Magic of a year ago or two years ago.

The bitch thing about playing the Magic is that they have not ONE, but TWO long 3 type guys in Hedo & Rashard Lewis which sucks ass for us defending them kinda. But I can see the Spurs pulling this out, I hope lol.

Spurs will bounce back tonight - they will be very pissed off about yesterday.

They will certainly go inside more often - this team can't win consistently unless it drives the ball.

I'm still happy with 21-1 about us winning the championship. Anyone else want that bet, go here:

http://www.acttab.com.au/interbet/racing?type=sport

Hell, I'm tempted to have a little side-bet on NO at 17-1...

That's no reason not to attack the paint. You're trying to tell me that just because the other team has a good defensive centre we have to rely on the jumpshot? GTFOH!

There are ways to get the centre out of position - cutters, movement in general. Run the cutters through, get the guy out of position, drive it down his throat. That's what we usually do, and we thrive on it. our success is largely based around Manu and TP finishing around the rim against anyone and everyone. Not right now though.

The problem....we saw these same scoring droughts throughout last season and guess what....they were STILL there in the playoffs.

The Spurs only have 80 games to constantly work on getting to the Lakers/Celtics level. If they aren't improving and ADDRESSING these problems now they will NOT BE READY.

ONE season to integrate Mason and Hill SMOOTHLY into INTENSE play. That is not easy and they cannot afford to slack off any game.

No better then the Spurs.

Spurs shouldn't be losing this game to this scrub team. So they got abit better..Spurs should win 98% of the games they play against this team. Now they get blow out.:toast

I'm trying to work out what's wrong, because 5 games ago they were clicking on all fronts.

Looks to me like:
(1) TP is sick or injured
(2) Manu is forcing things
(3) Timmy is getting swamped because of 1 and 2
(4) a number of role players (Mason, Finley particularly) have lost their rhythm in their reduced roles
(5) the whole team is tired from a road b2b.

So how exactly are the Spurs going to win a game if they are tired or "pooped" as you said? The Schedule is going to get a lot tougher with lots of road games and back to back games coming up in the next month or two. Every team plays a back to back. That's not good enough.

Are the Spurs just going to toss in the towel and lose all those games? That is NO EXCUSE whatsoever. If it's because of old age that is on Pop and the front office for not bringing more youth in. You can't use that as an excuse either.

I'm with ya'll, Us as fans didnt have to play last night get in at 3 a.m the next day and play a game at night as well. Every single guy on this team is not 20 years old. So of course being tired is going to be apart of the game. But dont blame just TD, just Fin, just Manu, just TP. THE WHOLE TEAM is sucking it up tonight. But for every bad game the Spurs have, they come back with 10 GREAT games as a whole, and us as a fan base of the Spurs have come to be really spoiled. For open shots (like last night), sure, but a lot of it tonight is that they are taking poor shots. There is very little off the ball movement or passing, so they are playing a very one-out game. That is the sign of a tired team, as is the fact that they haven't closed out on the 3pt shooters.

Valkyrie with Tom Cruise looks even more bad-ass.

I know a guy who was the great nephew of one of the German Generals who tried to assassinate Hitler. The movie sent his family a letter asking if they could use the guys name. Pretty wild.

It should be a good movie :toast

The Spurs have absolutely no movement without the ball on offense.

I am sick of hearing the excuse that the Spurs are so tired because of a back-to-back. New Orleans was on the second game of a back-to-back last night and beat a rested Spurs team.

Hill needs court time. WHy doesn't he get any?

Pop needs to be thinking about the long run here. That is stupid IMO.

What, is Pop showcasing TP for a trade or something? ;)

Yup, I must've pointed that out at least 6 times already.
