K-Perk is a straight up BEAST:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_trLnP9gtwc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_trLnP9gtwc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

He gives you a solid 8.4 points on a sizzling 57% FG percentage, along with 8.4 boards and 2 blocks in 29 minutes a game. He's even shown his Walton-like passing ability to the tune of 1.2 dimes per game. Watch out Chris Paul!

Here's the Mountain Man Oden:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/A6LZKESD89c&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/A6LZKESD89c&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Oden checks in with a more modest 8 points on 50% shooting, along with 8 boards and 1.5 blocks in 23 minutes per game. Oden hasn't yet demonstrated he can play team ball, as evidenced by his 0.6 assists per game. He certainly has shown some promise, but can Blazers fans look forward to the day when he is in the neighborhood of Kendrick "Beasty" Perkins?

I'd sign Perkins for the opportunity to kick him down a flight of stairs. If I was actually considering the good of my team I guess I'd take Oden.

God forbid Perkins ever gets hurt, but if he does, will the Celtics posters talk about the dynasty "being on hold" and make excuses for their team sucking without him?

By all objective measures, the Trailblazers would improve if they could sucker the C's into a straight up Perkins for Oden swap.

+1 Perkins is cocksucker.

Tough call from a basketball perspective. I'd taken Oden I guess because I think Perkins has more or less hit his ceiling in terms of how far his physicality will get him. Then again, I could see injury forcing Oden out of the league in 3 years. Tough call.

^ Keep in mind that at the age of 20, this is the most durable and resilient Oden's body is going to get. Perkins is getting by on his Sanford and Son's frontyard game.

I guess the question that begs is will he ever develop into anything more? Could he conceivably tack on some refinement and an extra 16 minutes, 8-12 ppg and 2 rpg, at some point down the line? I honestly don't know. And despite his start I'm not one of these people that have written off Oden's entire future and I do think barring injury, Oden can be a legit 20 and 10 guy.

Like you say though, durability from this point on is a huge concern. Interesting question this is.

Perkins is great when he has 3 All Stars around him, same with Rondo. If they play for the Grizzlies they both suck and nobody knows who they are

Oden is surrounded by a really talented team and is struggling with durability and stamina issues. I agree his upside is higher, but it's also increasingly clear that he most likely won't be the dominant player people thought he would. He'll be lucky if he's the next Alonzo Mourning, nevermind Bill Russell.

Don't underrate Zo, I think it's a long shot if Oden even develops into his neighborhood. He doesn't have the strength, mean streak, defensive presense, or explosiveness or Alonzo. Mav fans hate Mourning, but we saw he was a beast with his game altering monster blocks in 06, much less a young Zo.

Yeah, good points, and I wasn't hating on Zo, at his peak he was a 20-10 guy and a defensive force. Oden will be very lucky if he approaches that.

Anyone have a picture of the patented K Perk facial expression?

Or is the patented one the one where he's trying to shoot free throws drunk and the hoop is looking really blurry?

This is the one I'm most familiar with. I've watched about 20 minutes of Celtics basketball all season and he's always bitching about something.

Oden has Mourning's strength, and he's a lot bigger. But he doesn't have anywhere near his athleticism or his understanding and attitude.

I like his skill, size, and mobility. I'm not sure I'd build a team around Kendrick Perkins, however.

I'd take Oden if starting from scratch.
