View Full Version : the spurs have forsaken marcus williams

this is a story that has really disappointed me.

spurs drafted marcus willams with the 33rd overall pick and from here on it was a case of sign/waive/sign/waive. he was quickly sent to the d-league and performed well.

what really bugs me is that i think the spurs have lacked commitment in developing this kid. he was told to go to europe (apparantly) but chose not to. this season he has been tearing up the d-league and malik hariston gets the call up! :bang
im not hating on hairston; i want to see him in a spurs jersey, its just that i would love to see m-will in one aswell.

what has been a positive sign is that his game has improved immensely: his jump shot is better (he now has 3 point range), he a better rounded player and he is competent on defence (he takes the oppositions best player).

many say that he came out of college too early and that he just isnt good enough. but im sure he can contribute more than udoka currently is.

i really badly want to see this guy stick in the L, preferably with the spurs, and get his name on a video game.

hopefully theres agreement with me. GO MARCUS! :toast

Marcus Williams isn't a very highly regarded prospect. He got into about the worst training camp possible (with the Nets who had a full roster). It doesn't even sound like the Spurs invited him to training camp. He's shown nothing to indicate he's an NBA caliber player.

Props to him for working on his game but he needs years of retooling before he could become a player in an NBA rotation.

He did leave college too early, and that hurt him. He has talent but is not ready yet to be a roll player on a good team. He still needs to work on his D as he has a hard time with quicker players.

His shot needs work as his mechanics are real bad! I would not be surprised if someone gives him a contract sometime this year.

Hairston is a much better defender and a much better utility player as he can play the 1 2 or 3 and even 4 with a small unit. Hes a good rebounder and a better passer. Not sure you will see Hairston get much PT any time soon, I mean we are already play'n 12 guys and thats without Ian as of yet.

Judging from what I've seen, I don't think Hairston can play the point.

He played it from time to time in college, I dont think he is a point but in our system, I think he could bring the ball down. I think his best spot will be at the 3.

Yeah, definitely because he's french. (Oh, and the fact that he's: 6'11", athletic, a capable shot-blocker/rebounder, and has a knack for getting to the free-throw line... But mostly because he's french.;))
