Sons, the Lakers will lay down a whupping on the Hornets.

Don't let the 22-5 record deceive you, the Lakers are still the best team in the NBA.

Today the Hornets, the Celtics on Christmas.

70 wins is still possible, but I'm no longer touting it.

But, I have no doubt the Lakers will win today against the Hornets.

Spur-Addict, the Lakers were the early favorites this year, according to the experts. Everybody has basically jumped off the bandwagon now after their recent losses. It's all about Boston, Cavs, Hornets, Rockets, Magic and Spurs in the media right now.

I think the Christmas Day game will show the Lakers will still roll the good teams and the "experts" will start sucking the Lakers dick again.

Your experts not mine. Analysts are like weathermen, they only do a good job at reporting what they see. Not many can make accurate predictions, especially based on the reasons they give.

Lakers-Hornets Preview

The New Orleans Hornets have been one of the best defensive teams in the NBA this season. On Tuesday night, they'll get a good barometer of how good they really are when they host the league's top scoring team - the Los Angeles Lakers.

New Orleans (16-7) is seeking its season-high fifth straight win following a 99-90 home victory over Sacramento on Saturday. Chris Paul, the Western Conference player of the week, scored a season-best 34 points with nine assists and eight steals, also a season high. He has at least one steal in an NBA-record 107 consecutive games.

The Hornets had 11 steals in all, and scored 25 points off 18 Sacramento turnovers.

"We were smothering the ball screens,'' said Paul, who had 30 points and 13 assists in a 93-86 home loss to the Lakers on Nov. 12.
The Hornets have not allowed more than 94 points in any of their last eight games, improving their average points allowed for the season to 91.5 - third-fewest in the NBA. The Lakers, meanwhile, are scoring a league-best 107.3 points per game.

"All the talk is about the Lakers, Celtics and Cleveland, and rightfully so,'' said New Orleans coach Byron Scott, whose team has won 11 of its last 13 games. "We are getting better and better each month, and that's the important thing."

James Posey definitely has been improving, averaging 15.5 points - well above his 9.9 season average - and shooting 68.8 percent from the field during the Hornets' four-game winning streak. He missed Monday's practice with a slight calf sprain, but is expected to play on Tuesday.

Peja Stojakovic has missed the last two games with back spasms, but could return after going through a limited practice on Monday.

While the Hornets go for their seventh straight win at New Orleans Arena, Los Angeles (22-5) will try for back-to-back wins to conclude its four-game road trip. The Lakers avoided a third straight loss Monday, defeating Memphis 105-96. Kobe Bryant scored 10 of his 36 points in the final 3:08 as Los Angeles erased a 93-88 deficit.

"We know what we want to do,'' said Bryant, averaging 38.5 points and shooting 51.9 percent in his last two games. "For a young team, they are still kind of searching for what that identity is going to be. For us, we've been there, done that. So, it's just a matter of how well we executed."

Bryant missed 10 of 15 shots and scored just 20 points against the Hornets in November, but hit a critical 3-pointer with 1:08 remaining to stop a 17-4 New Orleans run.

Third-year guard Jordan Farmar won't be available off the Los Angeles bench for awhile. Farmar tore his lateral meniscus in last Friday's 89-87 loss to Miami and may need surgery.

"We're not happy about it, obviously, but this is what we go through in an NBA season,'' Lakers coach Phil Jackson said

The Lakers are the lesser of two evils.

The Hornets are in the same division so you never want a division rival to get wins.

Aside from a good laugh, a Laker loss only benefits the Spurs if the Hornets have a worse record than the Spurs.

The Lakers haven't been the best team in the NBA since 2001, and the Celtics won the championship last season, how they could not be the favorites is just the product of LA's amount of media/Bynum hype.

The Celtics are a much better team and have been all season.

Hopefully there will be no defensive collapses in the fourth.

Farmar being out should help in that department.

Fisher is bad enough.

Fisher plus Farmar guarantees a defensive collapse in the fourth.

Keeping my fingers crossed....

Thats like a person saying..."I'm looking foward to the end of this roller coaster ride." The Spurs are done my friend. Time to add some pieces to the big three.

Lakaluva,

You are like everyone else...who thinks the Spurs are done.

Go right ahead and think that way!! You know the Spurs (and I will include the Rockets) are real the road block for you in the West.

I guess you have not paid attention to the Spurs this season.

Hill, Mason, and Bonner have added something to Spurs this season and I still like our big 3....the original Big 3 against the Lakers!!

Again....I'm looking forward to the matchup on Jan 14th!!!

I dont underestimate the Spurs at all, but keep in mind, the Spurs are getting healthy against piss poor teams right now, which is something they needed. Forget about Houston buddy. Its a two man race in the West, and thats the Lakers and Spurs... period!!! I just dont see that defensive toughness the Spurs once had. With the exception of Mason, the other two players you mentioned are major scrubs. That bench is hurting bad over there.

There is no fear factor when playing the Spurs these days. After another crushing loss in the playoffs again this year, Pop will demand the owners dig in those pockets to get some serious help.

Lakaluva,

You beat who is on your schedule? I think that is the worst argument....a lot of people can make. I could say that about the Lakers, the Cavs, and the
Celts.

Good teams beat bad teams that are on their schedule!

Second, Hill has developed into a solid back PG behind Parker...something the Spurs haven't had since Speedy Claxton in 2003. Also, Bonner has played well and stretch the floor with his 3 pt. shooting.

So they are not scrubs!!

Moreover, Manu and Tony are getting healthy and will be better by the playoffs!!

Also, with Finley, Bowen, Thomas coming off the bench are not scrubs!! Remember that you have to have veterans coming off the bench especially during the playoffs!! Boston had Cassell and P.J. Brown coming off the bench and contributed to a championship. The Lakers don't have that kind of experience at all!!

Lastly, I know Lakerland is ready to call Bynum the second coming....but he is coming a major knee surgery (that same one that Amare) and I heard Stephen A. Smith say today on 1st and 10 that Bynum was hobbling at a bit.

He isn't fully healthy and he's only 20 years old. I would be worried about that if I'm a Lakers fan!!!

I'm glad you acknowledge that the Spurs are your main roadblock in order to win the Western Conference. But don't dismiss you main opponent...like that!!

They are still the last Western Conference team to win championships since 2003 and they won three of those in that time period.

And if the original big 3 are healthy (unlike last year's WCF)....they will be a tough out and have a legit shot to win it all again!!!!!

son I just got back from the game and its time to start drinking heavily. we played like shit. I am surprised that we only lost by 13 points. we were without Peja and Daniels which hurt us pretty bad, not to mention David West forgetting to show up. with Daniels out, we were forced to play that scrub Devin Brown extra minutes which killed us. Lakers hit their shots so I give them props for that, but the refs gave Kobe about 10 free points from the line with bullshit phony calls as usual though. nothing new there

Kobe and the rest of the Lakers got their fair share of calls tonight. That I will admit. But you must also admit CP3 gets about 4-5 BS calls per game with his ridiculous acting. He's almost as bad as AI.

The Hornets simply don't matchup well with the Lakers. I saw a team unable to take advantage of the weaknesses in the Laker's new zone defense. They rely far too much on CP3 to generate their offense. They need more ball movement from the rest of the players IMHO. And not having Peja was a huge blow, Devin Brown is pure unadulterated garbage.

I find it hilarious how all the Spurs fans were saying the Lakers were gonna get trounced. It's no surprise they didn't show up and eat their crow, and it's also no surprise this thread is < 5 pages. Nobody likes to talk about the Lakers when they win.

the ONLY team in the NBA who concerns me is the Lakers as much as I hate to admit that. you are right, we don't match up with them that well. Gasol owned West all night long easily taking it to the basket. however with that said, I still think that it would be a 7 game series with you guys in the playoffs. I don't think the Lakers are THAT much better than us, but we need someone other than Tyson who can consistently rebound the damn ball. tonight we were just pure garbage.
