Steve Francis traded to Memphis (BREAKING)
Posted on: December 24, 2008 1:05 pm

Steve Francis will wind up with the Grizzlies, after all. Not the Vancouver Grizzlies -- the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Houston Rockets announced Wednesday they've dealt the injured former superstar to Memphis along with a 2009 second-round pick and cash. The Rockets get a conditional 2011 second-round pick.

The second-round pick going to Memphis was originally acquired from the Grizzlies in a 2008 draft night deal. Francis has not played for the Rockets this season after having surgery on a torn quadriceps tendon back in February. You may recall how Francis balked at playing for the Vancouver Grizzlies after he was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in 1999. His rights were traded to Houston in a three-team, 11-player deal.

More later as details become available.

Why? Gay Mayo wasn't enough perimeter scoring? And at least those guys don't suck.

I predict he'll begin to play limited minutes in December. By January/February, he'll crack the rotation. When he gets his timing back..oh yeah baby.

Welcome back Franchise!

haha another hatah. He'll prove you wrong come Jan/Feb.

He's your worst nightmare

Too bad the Grizzlies had to trade Kevin Love.

They could have had a threesome of Gay Love with Mayo.

Perimeter scoring?

I thought Gay Mayo was about taking it to the hole?

I read an article that once Gay added Mayo to the mix, that there was no stopping the penetration.

"Cat, make the plane reservations to our private island. I'll work out this buyout within the week. Love you."

"K, Frankie, we really need to get bikini waxes when we get to the island. Love you too."

Good move for the Rockets. Brooks made Francis expendable, and we need a big to back up Yao anyway. Now they have the cap space to sign Deke. Get it done Morey!!!

God Hates Canadians

Francis, out of the University of Maryland, was the second overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies. He publicly announced that he did not want to play for the Grizzlies, citing the distance from his Maryland home, taxes, endorsements, and God's will.

LOL, I thought Francis was the greatest thing since sliced bread, according to some Rox fans around here... I actually think the Rockets did themselves a favor with this trade.

aww crap! Two days of travelling to get to Indy and first thing I see when I turn on my computer is this. Dammit, I would at least have liked to have seen what Franchise still had. I don't think Stevie fit in with Adleman though. He's more of a penetration type guard that fits with more of a pick and roll type offense.

they did this to move a roster spot and salary

rockets still have around 3m of the MLE to spend on mutombo, which will be pro-rata.......

ummmm we can only offer him what? the minimum?

Too bad Grizz didn't stay in Vancouver.

It would have been funny if he ended his career there

I have thought about this a bit more. From day one after Adleman said that Francis would be the starter it has been rocky between the two. Adleman specifically said that Francis had the hardest time understanding the system. In preseason, Francis earned himself a technical in practice. Who the hell gets a technical in practice??? Then as the season wore on, Francis couldn't buy playing time. Finally he's diagnosed with a torn quadriceps.

Francis rehabs and cannot play in the preseason this year and can't play early season. Doctors say that his injury typically takes one year to heal. Comments are that his recovery is slow, he needs to show something in preseason. Adleman says that right now there are a lot of guards ahead of him. Reading between the lines, Francis would never get playing time with Adleman even if he was 100%. It's probably a combination of not being dedicated enough, not giving him a fair chance and the time to recover and Francis not understanding or buying into Adleman's system. It's actually unfair but hey, the Rockets are trying to win now. It would have been nice to give Francis some minutes to play himself back into shape.

Francis is a Marbury, Iverson and Wade type player. They would all suck in Rick Adleman's system. Isiah Thomas was this type of player too and Bob Knight ran the motion offense too but at least he let Isiah dribble and penetrate. If Francis couldn't play within Adleman's system and had some personality conflicts, it would not be suprising to me that Francis asked to be traded behind the scenes. I think this the most likely scenario.

Does he still have anything in the tank. I think he does but lets see how he does with the conventional NBA offense again. Francis needs the ball to be effective.

Anyway, they sold him...for very cheap price.
Do they think he's done? at 31? A former all-star? for next to nothing?:wow
What if he became a 20pts 7ast 5reb like a few seasons ago by the end of march? I think is true that we all forgot about him, that he is still in the nba, sort of like Grant Hill. Just saying...:rolleyes
