Can anyone please let me know what they are so I can determine whether or not they are trying to force feed the nation those teams. I seriously feel like I am going to puke when I see their logos, I am so sick of them. I respect KG as a player, but my goodness... at halftime during a Spurs/Suns game he is talking about a friggin missed free throw in a series that his team won?
I know the Lakers and Celtics are good teams, I just don't like them much, and I speak for everyone who isn't a fan of those damn teams.
Sorry for the rant, but if you can find those numbers (I am piss drunk right now so I don't know a rats ass from a coke bottle. Egg Nog rocks!!!) would be really awesome of you.

Well its hard to force feed the two best teams in the league with the two best records on christmas.
I mean, Boston was out to the greatest start by any team in NBA history.
I don't see it as forcefeeding but the renewed rivalry that is really hot again, but enjoy it now, it wont be in 2 years what it was again.
Those two teams are the most successful teams in NBA history, so the fact that they're also the most successful teams in their respective conferences right now in this season means you're going to see a lot of them on cable TV like ESPN. They been around longer than the Spurs, have larger fanbases than the Spurs, and are in larger media markets than the Spurs.
Spursfan just needs to give up on bitching about ESPN not fellating the Spurs the way they do the Lakers, Celtics, Suns, etc. It's been this way forever, and it won't change anytime soon short of San Antonio getting annexed by New York or Los Angeles.

Wrong once more.
Celtics didn't have the "greatest start" of any NBA teams. It was the best start by that team. Not the whole NBA you dumb fuck.

uh oh.
somebody owes tpark an apology.
The Celtics broke a team record by winning their 19th straight game and broke an NBA record for the best start to a season with a 27-2 record.

Yup, unless you want to see our Spurs moved inside one of them Citys. Get used to it. Keep your friends close. Keep your enemys even closer. Alot easier to smile that way my friend.

I don't like the lakers but I still have to agree on the fact that the lakers is a good team, but the greatest team of this league is clearly the celtics.
Spurs is not as powerful as those two teams honestly, I'm a spurs fan though. TParker and Manu are not as good as them of the past seasons and so is TD, but we still have the chance to win the title again with our experience. With an injuried Manu we lost to the lakers in the conference final last season, but the result of that series would be under debate if manu was 100 percent or even 90 percent. A healthy should have helped us make that series a difference, at least we shouldn't be defeated by 1-4.
Travolta is a villian just like he always acts in the movies, but he has said one sentence that is really exacting and rational. He said:" what the hollywood is making is just sh!t, unthinkable unremarkable sh!t." It's no wonder they are making sh!t because the whole LA just just a huge sh!t.

It's a good matchup to watch, regardless of how you feel about each team and their egomaniacs. However, one thing that pissed me the hell off was the SportsCenter recap. They spent about 15 fucking minutes talking about the game. They even had a nice little graphic breaking down the first half. The Spurs got all of 2 minutes, and it was a better game. So yeah, in a way they are force-feeding that matchup, but I just don't watch when they do.

it's come to be expected.
but i absolutely HATE the fact that A, the spurs/suns game was the game of the night, with only the wizards/cavs game being close to entertaining, and B, the NBA's (nba.com (http://www.nba.com/), at least) front site claims this bogus crap: "Turns out the clash was worth the hype." WTF!?
seriously!
the lakers beat the celtics by nine freaking points!
how is that worth the hype? give me a break, NBA!
ugh.

I can see the Lakers and Celtics....they have storied histories. I am ok with the media dropping to their knees for the daily suck fest over those two teams. However, the Suns? What have they done to warrant any media love? So they can score 120 points with ease.....it doesn't matter when they are giving up 125. The Suns should not be getting more love than the Spurs.

just the fact that the nba is making it out to be 'the greatest game all evening' when obviously there was a closer game, a game that went down to the wire.
either way, im glad the lakers won; i didn't want the celtics streak to continue.

Great points here if I WAS A spurs fans I would kinda like being under the radar and still kicking peole's ass or being the team the former "players" (barley, Webber, Payton etc.) rspect most rather than the media ...who most dont know ish ...

Just to answer the Ratings question.
The Lakers/Celtics Christmas Day game drew a 5.3 rating..the highest regular season game in 4 years, double last year's Christmas Day game Lakers vs Suns.
The Spurs/Suns rated 3.2, higher than last Christmas' Lebron vs DWade matchup.

Well, the Suns should have another reason to go jump off of a cliff.
If I were a Suns fan, I would be pissed off at my team for being so damn exciting that they are forced to play the most boring team in basketball just to get ratings on Christmas Day. I would be calling for an immediate rebuild just so the Suns can have a boring team and not get embarassed during the holidays.

I think Spurs match deserve that kind of rate, but honestly we were known for defense (less score i dunno why people think like that) and in the offensive standpoint there was not much happening even though right now the team got different offensive looks. Unless you are Spurs fans or real basketball fans, not many people understand that fundamental basketball is what works, and methodical is not boring. But honestly Celtics and Lakers game was really a fantastic one. Without any shadow of doubt Lakers played as if it were NBA FInals and Celtics did got banged up even though they fight the whole way. I hate Celtics and Lakers is not my fave team either but honestly if you put team aside and ask your heart...GAME WAS DESERVING THAT KIND OF RATING. Its not about the media or market but both team come up with energy and Kobe and his gang was just playing out of the world. If we also played with same spirit and dont shy to let the emotion burst in front of camera, i believe more people will look forward to see Spurs game. Sometimes when Spurs player celebrate their terrific plays and let crowd feel about it, that was one of those great moments watching basketball from female standpoint

You just don't understand the way sports media works, and neither do a lot of people on this board. That's why you always see "ESPN won't shut up about the Suns" and "Why isn't the Spurs game getting a replay" threads and an assortment of other media-bashing posts from Spurs fans on this board.
Let's just go back to the dawn of the Tim Duncan era. The entire time, the Spurs have been a defensive team, they'd rather grind the game out than just chuck up three pointers and long jumpers and score in triple digits 90% of the time. In the game of basketball, that's a solid way to win games and championships. "Defense wins championships" right?
Well, defense doesn't win ratings. Cable sports channels are in the business of getting as many people to watch their channel as possible, not necessarily in being fair to Biggems on SpursTalk because he thinks the Suns shouldn't be included in highlight reels because they don't have any NBA championships and don't play defense. Shows like "SportsCenter" don't target a particular audience, such as Spurs fans, hell they don't even target a broad audience like NBA fans. I mean, if a man ran naked through a Toys R Us on Christmas Eve in Podunk, North Carolina, that'd probably make the front page of Yahoo.com, but you're not gonna see a 60 Minutes feature on it this Sunday. But I bet you it got huge coverage in Podunk, North Carolina.
Point is, if you want major sports media to start jacking off the Spurs the way they do other teams, you'd probably have better luck trying to find Barack Obama's cell phone number on Google. If you're looking for that kind of Spurs coverage, move to San Antonio and watch the local news. And if you already live in SA, look for podcasts and specialty websites (I heard about this place called SpursTalk that's really cool if you're into lots of people hanging off the Spurs nuts all year long). Major sports media is just into selling the products of highlights and high scoring games produce more highlights than grind it out halfcourt defensive games do. So the Suns don't play defense? Sucks to be them in the playoffs, but no defense means the other team is going to score their fair share of points, there will be tons of lead changes and other drama, overtime, double overtime, etc. ESPN goes nuts for that kind of shit. And most major sports media analysts praise the Spurs all the fucking time. Some of them don't, but none of them go on the air and say "The Spurs fucking suck. Boring!! GO LAKERS GO LAKERS GO LAKERS!" even though their rooting interest may be with the Lakers, or whatever team.

Well, defense doesn't win ratings.
That's not quite true. If the Spurs were say...The New York Knicks and they won 4 titles with dominating defense, then the 4-letter network would be down on knees slobbing for goo.
Small Market, they ain't down with unless that small market team is legendary in their eyes like say, the Green Bay Packers.

The Lakers and Celtics matchup was a great game. I believe that I was trying to make the point that you didn't see anything about a player on the teams currently playing in the halftime show during the Spurs/Suns matchup. You just got short analysis and then off to a ridiculous story about how KG missed a free throw and how much that affected him in a series that his team won anyway. They could have waited for the Lakers/Celtics halftime to run that garbage.

J.T, I understand how the media works. I am not calling for the media to hang over the Spurs nuts. I am just stating my annoyance with the constant Lakers, and Celtics. The Spurs win at the buzzer against a potential playoff rival, and they get a 2 minute segment on ESPN Sportscenter. The Lakers win by 9 against the Celtics, but yet they deserve a 15 minute segment? It was a good game, but not nearly as dramatic as the Spurs victory.
I consider myself a fan of all basketball, but when you get shitfaced drunk within 3 hours or so when playing a drinking game where the rules are "Drink everytime you either A. See Kevin Garnett, B. Hear his name, or C. See a Celtics logo" and are plastered before the beginning of the Lakers/Celtics game, something is wrong.

I am just back after 3 days in San Diego. I was able to read threads here as a guest while I was gone, but didn't log in. Couldn't remember my password. I made a thread promotiong the Laker Celtic Christmas day game in Basketball Central, but that has fallen back in the queue. Everything about that game has been said, but I can add a few things to this one...
First, I noticed something I never saw on Christmas day before. Not one single football game was played! As far back as I can remember, there are always a few games going on. Espcially since the NCAA serves up about 30 bowl games at season's end, even one game would be expected. So if we wanted to watch sport on Christmas, we had to watch basketball. Seems the NBA is trying to make Chistmas a basketball day, just as Thanksgiving and New Year's are noted as football days.
Second, the NBA does try to offer marquee matchups. For current NBA history, it's hard to top Lakers versus Celtics, even though not everyone will care. Getting a game from the league on Christmas day is a plus, I feel, as they feel the teams they feature warant more attention. The Spurs got national TV exposure along with the Lakers, not everyone has cable TV to see the others. The Spurs pairing against the Suns was about as good a rivalry they have to show as any, owing to their recent playoff history, and recent Spur postseason success.
New Orleans and Cleveland deserved a having a game. The Magic were represented, and Washington, although weak, has a new postseason rivalry with the Cavs. I think the Mavs game with the Blazers was a nod to Greg Oden and his rising team, and to recent Dallas seasons. Missing from the mix were Detroit, Utah, and Houston.
Besides, the Spurs game led off on ABC, and anyone that didn't care about the Lakers Celtics game could spend the rest of their day with family.
I watched all 5 games. My biggest worry was the Spurs Suns game would go to an overtime or two...(Certainly this would have been an ideal finish if it could have been as exciting as game one in the playoffs was last year between the two teams)...And thus the opening of the Laker game would be missed. So, When SA called the last timeout, I didn't care who won, I just wanted to get on to the next game. I felt shoot a 3 and make it or miss it, just don't make a duece. Roger fulfilled my wish by tossing up a trey. Very nice, very clutch. Hope he doesn't beat the Lakers that way!
So, aside from San Antonio getting to play on Christmas, which is an honor, they won a game people will remember, even next Christmas.
