View Full Version : Thoughts on our beloved Mavs tonight

Our beloved Mavs fell 97-88 to the Jazz. We showed no passion or energy, the Jazz looked very well rested, but it's still disappointing to lose to the Jazz when Boozer, Okur, and Millsap are not playing.

I'm particularly upset at Howard and Dampier tonight. Two sequences that stood out in my mind where when Kidd made a nice rebound, made an outlet pass to Howard, and he fumbled it. That's 2 points right there. Then to end the 3rd, Howard gets lazy on defense (what else is new) and the jazz get 2 points inbounding with 1.5 left.

Dampier looked very slow and lazy on defense, had a few lame missed tip ins, fumbled a rebound. etc. Upsetting.

Dirk Kidd and Terry were good but not spectacular. The reserves outside of Barea didn't contribute much.

WAY too many turnovers leading to points off TO and transition buckets for the Jazz, 16 of their points came off of transition.

I really hope we can trade J-Ho, I'm just not seeing anything special with this team as long as he's on the roster.

We have 6 easy games coming up, we SHOULD be 23-12 after them but never bank on anything with the inconsistency of hte Mavs. We'll see what happens.

Vexed by tonight's loss, but not as upset as I was with the Nuggets and Nets games.

Josh howard is avreaging 1.6 rebounds in the 7 games he's come back from the injury. Shit's weak. Trade his ass.

I'm tired of sounding like a broken record, but Fuck Josh Howard.

This team shoots way too many fucking 3 pointers, it makes me sick

Yeah, especially since we're a below average 3 pt shooting team.

But what do you expect, outside of Dirk nobody can consistently get to the line (and he's doing that at a lower rate this year), we don't have offense in the paint...most of our points come off 3's, long 2's (Terry/Dirk), and in transition.

JET is the best mavs player at getting to the paint off the dribble and finishing whether it be layups, pullup J;s or runners

As much as some on here like the mock the front office I'm fairly certain at this point they must atleast be TRYING to shop Howard. There is absolutely no way they can be oblivious to his ball stopping, blackhole, halfassing ways.

There is also no way they can expect for this team to accomplish anything when even the coach doesn't trust his ass in the 4th quarter!

I think they are shopping, they are just being patient and are waiting for the right deal to come along. he does have some value and its just doesnt make sense to just dumb him for the sake of it

This game just highlighted all the problems again: on the offensive side, you have to rely heavily on Dirk and JT. Then you have the blackhole killing offensive movement (seriously it is really telling how fucking stupid Howard is given that he was all the skillset to blossom along side someone like Kidd yet has only regressed).

Then on defense, your so-called "specialist" Dick Breath can't play without fouling.

The rest of the bench is a hit-or-miss. Luckily Terry has been playing out of his mind for us but he can't defend for shit either.

Offense and defense suck right now and will probably continue to suck... teams don't just magically morph into a defensive team or an offensive juggernaut after 29 games of mediocrity in both categories, unless a roster change is made. The defense is slightly better than the offense from an efficiency standpoint.

Morning thouhgts on our beloved Mavs:

At the end of the day, we're only 2 games out of 2nd in the West. And yet that gap seems like so much more, because the quality of our basketball doesn't seem good enough to truly make up any ground.

We're 15-5 in our last 20, we could go 15-5 in our next 20 and still be 6th or 7th in the West, and 4th in the Southwest.

A hot streak can allow us to make up a ground, but we're a slump away from falling further into irrelevancy.

We may have some nice little mini streaks, but then enter a tough patch of our schedule like a 4 game road trip and be reminded of the mediocrity we've seen all season long.

The Mavs need a hot streak... like 9 wins in 10, 17 wins in 20... something

I'm pretty sure the FO is shopping J-Ho. Thereis just no way they are turning a blind eye to what is going on on the court.

But what if they don't get a deal done? What if they only get 60 cents on the dollar? J-Ho's value is low, and if other GM's were paying attention, they'd notice his lack of spectacularity.

Conclusions:

1. Mavs need to go on a hot streak
2. Mavs need to trade J-Ho
3. No team that starts Devean George can be considered a contender
