(CNN) -- A man angry that a family was talking during a movie threw popcorn at the son and then shot the father in the arm, according to police in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

James Joseph Cialella was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges.

James Joseph Cialella, 29, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations, a police report said.

Cialella told the family sitting in front of him in the theater on Christmas Day to be quiet, police said.

An argument ensued while others at the Riverview Movie Theatre watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, according to Philly.com.

Cialella then approached the family from the left side of the aisle and shot the father, who was not identified, as he was standing between Cialella and his family, according to the police report.

The victim was taken to Jefferson Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left arm, police said.

Cialella was carrying a Kel-Tec .380-caliber handgun clipped inside his sweatpants, police said. He was arrested and taken into custody.

God, I don't know HOW MANY times I've wanted a firearm to take care of the guy that answers his cell phone in the middle of the damn movie. I wouldn't go as far as to say "Kudos!" to this guy, but I think we've ALL been there.

I wonder if the judge and jury would be a little more sympathetic if the movie was schindler's list or the Passion.

By NO means am I condoning what this guy did, but people who hold open conversations in the middle of a public movie theater are just plain inconsiderate. If you and your family have that much stuff to talk about during a movie then wait until it comes out on DVD or BluRay so you can sit in your living room and talk thru the entire movie if you want.

Yeah, if someone is inconsiderate enough to yak it up in a theater I can only conclude that they'd be inconsiderate in all sorts of other venues/situations too... and therefore, are a bad person. I always talk about using societal litmus tests in order to judge a human's worth and talking in a theater knocks you pretty far down the totem poll IMO. I'm 100% in support of the shooter.

Nah. I probably would ask them to be quiet, or at least tone it down to whispers. I doubt I would draw my weapon and shoot the guy. :lol

The thing is he did ask them to be quite and supposedly they got all butt hurt and started an arguement. So he busted a cap on them.
