Spurs are making this game tougher than it needs to be. Missing shots they usually make, giving up the boards, and still haven't figured out the combo to Mayo's lock.
Need to pick it up soon, otherwise I see the Grizzlies hanging tough and this being a nail-biter. I'm sure this team is sick of losing to the Spurs.

Final: Spurs 106, Grizzlies 103 (2OT) (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2008/12/game-blog-spurs-vs-grizzlies.html)
SECOND OVERTIME
Tony Parker scored 10 points in the overtimes and Kurt Thomas held down the defense inside after Tim Duncan fouled out as the Spurs beat the Memphis Grizzlies 106-103 in double overtime.
An O.J. Mayo 3-pointer cut the Spurs' lead to 105-103. The Grizzlies have the ball with 12.9 seconds left in the second OT. The shot clock is off.
Tony Parker hit back-to-back jumpers and the Spurs lead 105-100 with 1:19 left in the second overtime. The Grizzlies haven't made a basket in the period.
The Spurs lost another player. Bruce Bowen fouled out with 3:48 left in the second overtime and the Spurs leading 101-99. Memphis' Rudy Gay made one of two free throws and the Spurs still led 101-100.
Kurt Thomas made the first basket of the second OT when he grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in. The basket accounted for his first points of the game.
FIRST OVERTIME
Marc Gasol made one of two free throws to tie it 99-99 with 7.4 seconds left in overtime. We're headed to a second OT.
Tony Parker's driving basket put the Spurs in front 99-98. The Grizzlies have the ball with 24.8 seconds left in the game and 20 seconds on the shot clock.
Tim Duncan fouled out with 1:13 left in OT. It's the first time this year he has fouled out. Kurt Thomas is in for Duncan.
FOURTH QUARTER: 90-90
The game is headed to overtime tied 90-90.
Tony Parker hit a pair of free throws with 47.2 seconds left to tie it 90-90. A defensive stop for the Spurs would go a long way right now.
After making only two 3-pointers in the first three quarters, the Spurs have hit four in the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter - two by Michael Finley and one each by Manu Ginobili and Bruce Bowen. That is keeping them in the game.
Marc Gasol completed a three-point play and O.J. Mayo hit a jumper with 6:15 left to put the Grizzlies in front 79-76.
Michael Finley hit 3-pointers on back-to-back possession and a Tim Duncan basket put the Spurs in front 76-74 with 7:10 left for their first lead of the second half.
The game is getting a little rough in the fourth quarter. Tim Duncan was just hit with a technical with 8:58 left and the Grizzlies leading 70-68.
THIRD QUARTER
Tim Duncan scored 13 points in the third quarter and the period ended tied 66-66 after the Grizzlies led by as many as 11 points.
The Spurs are on a 7-0 run and look like they have some momentum building even though the Grizzlies still lead 57-53.
The Spurs look like they need a spark. They might have just gotten it from Bruce Bowen. He hit a 3-pointer, only the Spurs' second of the game, with 6:52 left in the third quarter.
Memphis' Marc Gasol had two baskets early in the second half. A Quinton Ross basket extended the Grizzlies' lead to 57-46.
SECOND QUARTER
The Grizzlies shot 51 percent from the field and outrebounded the Spurs 21-14 to take a 49-42 halftime lead.
The Grizzlies' Hakim Warrick scored 10 points in less than five minutes to carry Memphis to a 38-33 lead.
The Grizzlies made a 10-2 run early in the second to go in front 29-25 - their biggest lead so far.
The Spurs opened the second quarter with three guards - George Hill, Manu Ginobili and Roger Mason - and two big men - Matt Bonner and Kurt Thomas.
FIRST QUARTER
Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker combined to outscore the Grizzlies 10-2 at the end of the first quarter as the Spurs took a 23-18 lead.
Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo helped break the Grizzlies out of their scoring slump. They went on an 8-0 run and lead 16-15.
The Spurs built an early 11-6 lead and coach Gregg Popovich didn't look happy. The obvious cause for concern was rebounding - the Grizzlies out-boarded the Spurs 6-1 to start the game. Memphis missed 7 of 8 shots to start the game. A Rudy Gay tip-in gave the Grizzlies' their second basket and cut the lead to 11-8 and led to Popovich calling a timeout.
PREGAME
Spurs starters: Tony Parker, Roger Mason Jr., Michael Finley, Tim Duncan and Matt Bonner.
Just before tipoff, the final play of the Spurs' Christmas day victory over the Suns was replayed on the big screen. Mason, who made the winning shot, was then given a rousing cheer when he was introduced with the starting lineup.

This season Spurs fans get all excited about close wins over awful teams and then implode when they lose to the above .500 teams.

Not really... I'm not saying the Spurs are bad but one of their wins is a buzzer beater, and 3 in double overtime. That's usually "variance" more than it is "good basketall".

this argument doesn't have any substance to it. The Spurs won 58+ in all of their championship runs and were winning by 7-8 points per game. So even if they were "half assing" the regular season, they sure as hell were better at it than the current edition.

No- I am just honest and not a homer. Memphis got fouled but a young team will never get a call like that at the end of a game on the road.
This season Spurs fans get all excited about close wins over awful teams and then implode when they lose to the above .500 teams.

Not really... I'm not saying the Spurs are bad but one of their wins is a buzzer beater, and 3 in double overtime. That's usually "variance" more than it is "good basketall".
but its December. If you have followed the spurs over the years they play thier best in March. And so what if Spurs win at buzzer beaters, great teams find a way to win anyway.

I really don't see anyone here saying we're going to win the Championship after this game. I'm pretty sure everyone here is well aware we still have holes to fill and lots of improvement to be done to get to that higher level.
I really don't know what you're on about.
The Lakers nearly lose to these guys a couple of games ago. Do the Lakers suck? Plus Memphis probably had some confidence after playing the Lakers close and beating the Pacers last night. They're a young team and showed some good energy tonight.

Margin of victory is a better indicator of future success than records in close games. In 2007 the Mavs had a great record in close games, the Spurs had a higher margin of victory and look what happened.
The Grizzlies sure as hell helped with missed FT's though, and Mayo was hacked on his final drive. Rudy was braindead and unclutch as well.

I'm just saying the same thing; the Spurs quality of basketball is nowhere near the Cavs, Lakers, and Celtics right now... not only are they inferior to these teams as far as record and margin of victory, but they've needed a buzzer beater and 3 OT wins to amass that record.

Going by ploto's and Ghazi's logic, this season doesn't bode well for the following teams since they all struggled to beat inferior competition:
Boston: lost to Indiana and Golden State; beat Milwaukee and Indiana in OT; Beat Charlotte by 6
LA Lakers: Lost to Indiana, Sacramento, Miami; Beat NY and Washington by 2 pts each
Spurs: Beat Memphis and Minnesota in double OT; Lost to Miami and Portland (except for the Gizz game, they were without Manu for the others, but this doesn't count in Ploto-land)
Cavs: Beat Indiana and Washington by 4; Lost to Atlanta; Beat Milwaukee by 6
Damn, it seems like none of these teams are contenders. Yep, it's gonna be a Nets-Mavs finals in the end

Cleveland is winning by 12 points per game, LA and Boston are winning by around 9-10 points per game, San Antonio is winning by less than 4 points per game.
So it is fair to say that the Spurs do not get as much out of their offensive and defensive possessions as these teams. And you can't say that the early season injuries created this large of a gap.
I didn't mean to get off on a tangent, all I said is that the Spurs are not as good as their record (due to the abundance of close calls that they EASILY could've lost) and Mayo got hacked on his last drive.

Some people don't understand NBA basketball.
First, this was the Spurs 7th game in 11 days and it definitely showed.
Second, whether the team is the Grizzlies or Thunder or Wizards...basketball is a rhythm game and those bad teams can come ready to play. The Grizzlies were in rhythm tonight and could have won the basketball game.
Third, Spurs fans just like any other fans are going to celebrate a 2OT win no matter who they're playing.
Lastly, it is a 82 game season and it's still late December...if you think the Spurs are a finished product then you haven't watched this team over the last 5 years. No one is saying the NBA title is theirs right now.....but for a team to have 20 wins in 30 games and after starting 0-3 and having Tony and Manu out for the first month of the season is excellent.
I'm glad they've won...because they could have laid down and lost the game!!!!

Oh, so now you change your tune and bust out the Hollinger ppg differential stat! Well, the 2006 Miami Heat need to give their title back ... they only had a +3.9 PPG differential ... the Spurs led the league in PPG diff that year and should have had their 5th title! Injustice!

Mayo has a huge hard on for the Spurs. I swear, he has a blood vendetta against us or something. It's like he has a very nice game (skillset), but when he plays the Spurs, he is able to go Emeril and kick it up several notches.......BAM.
My only solace is that they no longer have Miller. If they still had Miller, this most likely would have been a loss....since Miller, Gay, and Mayo all kill the Spurs.

First of all they are 6-9 against .500 teams I could if they were 2-13 or 3-12 against those teams. So it's not great..but it's not terrible either!!
Plus good teams are supposed to beat bad teams. They didn't make the schedule and if they didn't win those games...you would be posting that Spurs can't even beat those teams.
Also, Cleveland, Boston, LA Lakers have beat a lot of bad teams as well to get their wins.

OK, so how about these cases:
2000-01: Spurs +7.8, Kings +5.8, Lakers +3.4; champs - Lakers
2002-03: Mavs +7.8, Kings: +6.5, Spurs +5.4; champs - Spurs
2003-04: Spurs +7.2, Wolves +5.5, Kings +5.0, Lakers +3.9; WC champs - Lakers
You can also go back in time to the 1999 Knicks (8th seed) or the 1995 Rockets (6th seed) which came out of their respective conferences.
PPG differential doesn't factor in injuries (which the Spurs have had this year), trades / midseason signings (which any contending team might well have this year), playoff experience, matchups etc.

I don't know why you guys feed the trolls..Mavs fans have never seen a winning team in their lives, how would they know what it takes to be a contender? let them cry..let them have their 1 finals appearance that they still complain about..they all have Wade nightmares every night..
you guys need to realize that we're 2nd place in the West despite Parker and Ginobili missing significant time..this is the equivalent of Boston missing Pierce and Allen, Lakers missing Gasol and somebody else, Cavs missing Z and Williams..think about that..
furthermore, Manu is still CLEARLY far away from a 100%..I'd say he's about 75% now..we're also a team that relies on grind-out games, not blow outs..we've always been like that..we always have games vs. worse teams that we fall asleep against, this is nothing new..
some of you just like to be dramatic..remember those Suns teams that used to blow EVERY bad team out every night? what did that get them? blow outs and point differential mean nothing..wins mean everything..

Is amazing how so many people are ready to post that Spurs are in decline?
Here are some stats (since 2003):
60-22 (2002-2003)
57-25 (2003-2004)
59-23 (2004-2005)
63-19 (2005-2006)
58-24 (2006-2007)
56-26 (2007-2008)
That's an average of 58 wins over that time period with three NBA titles and at least reaching the 2nd round of the playoffs in the years they didn't win the title.
Also, with their 20-10 record after 30 games...they are on pace to win about 53 games this year.
Oops....58 wins to 53 wins is a decline!!! Some decline...yikes!!!
I don't get it!!!

Is amazing how so many people are ready to post that Spurs are in decline?
Here are some stats (since 2003):
60-22 (2002-2003)
57-25 (2003-2004)
59-23 (2004-2005)
63-19 (2005-2006)
58-24 (2006-2007)
56-26 (2007-2008)

I agree 100%. It is worth it when we get to watch them scratch their heads at the end of the season though. It is always such a Kodak moment. :toast
Spurs are not on a decline, they are consistent. they are on pace to win the same amount of games they win each year. Pace in the regular season and let it all out for the playoffs. This happens every season before SPAM.

Well, I was at the AT&T Center, and to be honest we couldn't get a break until the 2nd overtime. I thought the team lay it all out. That Warrick guy couldn't miss!
Good win tonight. We're now starting to win games even when things don't go our way...

That's because of defense. Pop kept on stressing that offense will take care of itself and you can win games with impeccable defense even if you suck at scoring.

Yes, the Mavs are on the decline too. But who said anything about the Mavs?
The Spurs were the best in the league arguably for 5 straight years and were a few plays away from possiby winning 5 straight championships. Now they are around 5th or 6th best in the NBA, just my humble opinion.
and you have every right to think that about them. but the fact remains you are trying to act like a voice of reasoning here, when really all we spur fans are doing is celebrating a fun win that was entertaining to watch. Ya'll come in acting like you know so much more than us about the spurs. When we've been watching them since the beginning. Theyve been struggling with injuries and getting into rythmn they are no where near what they can become later on in the season. I know right now they are not going to win the championship today.
