Top 10 Dangerous SA Intersections
#1: 281 North at Loop 1604 (News 4 WOAI)

SAN ANTONIO -- Hundreds of thousands of cars a day make their way north, south, east, and west with everyone looking to get some place and sometimes they do it a little too fast.

The top three crash locations for 2008 aren't all that much different than 2007. Leading the way is 281 North at Loop 1604. Coming in second was I-10 W. and Loop 1604 with 100 accidents, and in third place is Bandera and Loop 1604.

Sean Daniels drives the intersections and says, “I have seen a lot of accidents right here at this intersection, specifically. I've seen cars in the middle of the road.”

The statistics were collected by the San Antonio Police Department but the city sent referred News 4 WOAI to TxDOT to find out what's going on.

TxDOT Spokesperson Maggie Rios admits, “We know what intersections on 1604 need improvement.”

She adds TxDOT is waiting for an environmental study of 1604 to be done before it makes any adjustments to any interchanges or intersections. When it will be done isn't known. And while TxDOT says it can't do anything about these intersections now, the number of accidents at the top three didn't come as a surprise.

Rios says, “Just the sheer amount of vehicles someone is going to make a mistake and we're going to see accidents.”

Idunno, but I used to live by Perrin Beitel and 410 and don't remember it being much of a problem. You had to go so slow due to construction that it was impossible to wreck into anything. :lol

I wish they would get off their ass and do something about it then. The solution to every problem is NOT a fucking toll road.

Damn. I currently drive on 1604 a lot.

The suckiest intersection I have ever seen is the 1604 E to I-35 N.

That is the total suck. You have one merge right before the off ramp, then an off-ramp with two lanes, then another branch-off, then the curve north to another ill-planned merge, then a quick lane change onto the frontage road to get you into yet another merge onto I-35.

I f***ing hate it. It is ALMOST worse than most Austin traffic.

I can't remember the last commute where I was listening to the radio traffic reports and didn't hear about a crash of some sort there.

While I agree:

- Higher gas prices earlier in the year meant fewer gallons sold = less gas tax revenue = no money for fixes
- Crappy economy now, less people travelling means fewer gallons sold = no money for fixes
- Texas Gov't diverting gas tax money to spend elsewhere = no money for fixes

What also makes that suck is so many people thinking they can get into those lanes from the far left of 1604.

I drive the 1604/281 area daily, and although the traffic is pretty terrible, I never see any wrecks there.

The problem with IH 10 and 1604 is that in every clover leaf the people in the right lane need to get into the left lane and vice versa. Everyone needs to switch lanes.

I am not sure why there are always so many wrecks at IH 10 and Wurzbach but there are.

I drive by at least three of those places a day.
