SI Vault - 2 on 5 (http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1149384/1/index.htm)

One night in 1992, in a small town in Alabama, the North Jackson Chiefs won a game against seemingly insurmountable odds. Then came the crashes and the gunshots and one man's fateful choice.

This is probably one of best articles I have ever read. It is too long to post the whole thing but I encourage all of you to go and read it when you have a little extra time. You will find the time spent well worth your while.

I looked and didn't see it posted anywhere...but if it has then someone can post the link and this can be deleted.

That was good. Thanks for sharing. Wish SI would have put it all on one page, though.

A bunch of dumb ass rednecks play an illegal basketball game, and it tells about how they all kill each other and fuck up their lives.

Stupid redneck bullshit.

Waste of time, shitty story.

Summary:

Once upon a time, in an impoverished, backward, rural part of Alabama, there was a high school basketball game between two talentless, undisciplined teams. The teams hacked and fouled a lot. One team fouled out enough of its players that it was down to five. When another player received his fifth foul, the ignorant officials misapplied the rules and disqualified him. They continued this gross misapplication of the rules until the game was five-on-two. The hapless coach of the other team was unable to capitalize on this advantage and the shorthanded team somehow won.

Most of the players in the game went on to failed lives of poverty, pain, crime, and incarceration. A writer for Sports Illustrated attempted to test his writing talents by spinning this horrible story into something inspirational.

Story wasn't bad, the writing was awful. My eyes are bleeding after reading it.
