I got up to go to the restroom around 5am & saw emergency vehicle lights everywhere. A woman in her SUV spun out on a dangerous section of road at the top of hill by where I live and she took out mailboxes, garbage cans, etc. & came to rest in my front yard. She had 2 little kids with her, but they were strapped in to car seats and were ok. The woman was not as lucky.

ask them if they are going to pay for the damages to your front yard then go back to sleep

Apparently it happened around 3AM. It woke up the man across the street but he didn't see anything when he looked out the window. He has a bunch of very large oleander bushes blocking his view. Then at 0430 a man on his way to work found the wreck. He called the policia and ran home and got his wife (she's a nurse). I can't help but feel for those two little ones alone in their car seats for almost 2 hours before they were found.
The young woman was thrown from the vehicle. She was only 21 years old.It is such a tragedy. They brought her ex-husband to the scene to take the children. He looked soooo young. I'm not sure the gravity of the situation has hit him yet. There was also a lot of army gear strewn everywhere along with her mail, out mail & our neighbor's mail. When I was picking up the mail I found a little pink headband with a bow on it. The stretchy kind you put on babies. It broke my heart.

So what is a mother with two very young kids doing driving around at 3AM? Very sad story. That dad will have to adapt his life 24/7 to raising his kids.

Oh my gosh, that's horrible. How tragic for the kids (and rest of the family). I too find it odd that a woman was out with her kids driving at 3am.

Apparently she had been out of state and had just flown back in to Austin. She arrived between 11 & midnight. Then she drove to her ex-husband's house to pick up her kids. At this point, she was headed home to New Braunfels. We live on a county road that is curvy, dark & dangerous. It was foggy out and their was a light mist on the road. She came over the hill by our house, probably a bit too fast (speed limit 30mph) and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle then went into what is believed to be a spin and she took out 3 mailboxes, but amazingly the trash cans at ours and our neighbor's house were untouched. The vehicle then came to a rest in my yard and she was thrown from the vehicle. People come over this hill way too fast all the time. Just trying to get my mail can be a terrifying thing some days.

There did not appear to be any alcohol at the scene. All I saw was a "Monster" energy drink.

You live off of Borgfeld, right? My brother recently moved out there off S. Glenrose and when I was driving home from there Christmas Eve I drove probably 15-20 mph all the way to 281 .. I'm chickenshit driving at night anyway, but out there is scary as all hell ... and it was even clear, not foggy.

Since it is out in the county, Street lights are not many in that area. You may want to use the Canyon Golf to Overlook Parkway to go in and out of the area. Overlook is lit and Canyon Golf is straighter in comparison to Borgfeld.
P.s. methinks 2Blonde is in the Smithson Valley area near CL.

No, actually we live on Rebecca Creek Rd. It's near Smithson Valley High School off of Hwy 46. Borgfeld is where my daughter had her car accident in August. You're right though, the Borgfeld area is scary as hell at night.

its jsut sad that people nowadays are sooo quick to judge this woman for being out at 3 am....no one knows everything about people yet are always sooo quick to assume shit when things go wrong...sad thing is that prolly feel asleep at the wheel after picking up her kids or someshit....but noooooo she had to be doing something wrong right....its just not a good weekend for parents and accidents involving their kids....just goes to show you best enjoy your time with them...cause its not always a given....

I think it's because of things like the baby getting shot in a drive-by when her mother had her out on the sidewalk at 2 in the morning, and the guy who locked his kid in the trunk so he could go watch The Dark Knight, and people like Casey Anthony that are so selfish they would rather their child be dead so they can go party like a porn star, and you can go on and on naming stories that make the news because they are so appalling. We're being conditioned to assume the worst.

I agree with you, it is sad, but so many times, these innocent kids need to be home in their beds, safe from harm. That's our job as parents. I'm so sad to hear about this mom.........and now 2 babies without a mother.

However, no matter what the reason was for her being out that late, she surely didn't deserve the death penalty for it. RIP :depressed

By all signs, she was a good mama to her babies. They were securely strapped in, well cared for, she had medicine, sippy cups, diapers. The diapers, of course, were a blessing to the EMS workers since they had been sitting in the car for a couple of hours after the wreck.

BTW, they showed the section of road on Channel 5 news tonight and released the woman's name. I have some pictures that I took, but I don't think it would be appropriate to post them for a couple of days. There is nothing gruesome in them, but out of respect I think I'll wait a couple of days.

I wasn't judging her for being out at 3am. I was just asking. It's not the norm to drive around with toddlers/babies at that time of night. My first thought (for some reason) was that she was trying to get away from someone.

Condolences the family. So sad.

2Blonde - you didn't hear the accident when it happened?

I heard something, but since I was asleep I thought it was my daughter's boyfriend leaving. My thought was "why is Martin leaving so late? He was supposed to leave by 1 am. I'll chew out my daughter in the morning. zzzzz...."

What a horrible tragedy, those poor babies. That young father has such a difficult job ahead of him, I pray he has a strong support system.

He does, from everything I have found out about him. I think he is from an established family in this area. He has a mother and a brother & sister-in-law.

Two nights ago I was up at my homeboy Hunter's house smoking weed until like 4am. We went outside to burn a cig before I left and there was this thick fog everywhere! Like, you could not see further than 10 feet in front of you. I decided to take this backroad home because bright lights made it harder to see and I wanted no part of I-35 in that fog. This backroad has lots of curves, two left turns and one right turn to properly get back to my house...and the whole time I was sweating it because I couldn't see any signs and kept thinking I'd gone too far. I did almost wreck the shit out of my truck like 10 times though. It's a good thing I was stoned, or else I wouldn't have been in the "zone" and able to make quick decisions behind the wheel.

I'm not trying to be an asshole or anything, just saying that it's kinda hard to drive on a curvy ass road in the middle of the night and I can see how this could happen.
