With all the talk about Stephon Marbury joining the Celtics (http://layupdrill.com/2009/01/stephon-marbury-and-the-celtics-need-each-other/)should he be released circulating here and around the net, you knew we would hear from Steph about this sooner or later. The NY Post (http://www.nypost.com/seven/01032009/sports/knicks/marbury_denies_report_hes_decided_on_bos_147040.ht m) reports this morning that Marbury denies that he has made up his mind about going to Boston, should a buyout with the Knicks happen in the coming weeks. Marbury reportedly wants to review all his options, and wants to play for a contender. The options available to him by any team interested would have him in a backup capacity, which would be an adjustment to Marbury. Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge may look at other potential options for a point guard, as his team contends with Cleveland and Orlando in the competitive East, and is in dire need of some backcourt scoring help. Stay Tuned...
In other news around the league, the Kings seem to be ready to unload some young talent. Guard Quincy Douby and forward Shelden Williams are on the trading block, according to the Sacramento Bee. (http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/sports/kings/archives/018243.html) What would Sacramento be looking for in exchange for the pair? Cash or Draft Picks. Take your pick.
News out of the NBA offices state that neither Vince Carter or referee Derrick Stafford will be disciplined for the incident that occured earlier this week. If you haven't seen it, click here. (http://layupdrill.com/2009/01/vince-carter-barking-at-the-ref/)
News that did not get a lot of coverage late last month was the reported talks about Andre Miller possibly being moved out of Philly (http://blogs.phillynews.com/inquirer/deepsixer/2007/12/cleveland_not_a_good_trading_m.html). The Sixers have had light discussions with a few playoff contenders, notably the Cleveland Cavaliers. Though it does not look like Miller will be heading to Cleveland right now, don't rule out these talks heating up before the trade deadline. Other teams that may look at the veteran point guard could be Boston or Charlotte.
