His comment earlier in this thread "LOL at the as always worry warts who freak out over nothing."
Spurs are overly reliant on their three-point game. It's gotten to the point where the team just doesn't care about defending the paint anymore. We're looking more and more like a D'Antoni team.

I don't think our defense/rebounding is good enough to beat the truly elite teams. You can't shoot your way to a championship(as evidenced by all of D'Antoni's failed teams).

We're not enjoying anything. The Spurs had a chance to blow this game out but they played lazy on defense and jacked up jumper after jumper until Philly got back into it. It's been a recurring problem all year long and we're fucking tired of it. I'm disgusted to see this team playing like a soft, jump-shooting ball club that's lazy on the defensive end. We're supposed to be much better than this.
Tell Horry to sign with any team he wants...we have RMJ for big shots now.

Bruce was awesome. DO NOT ASK ME Spurs Brazil. I don't know what is going. Plus Bruce was driving in and scoring, grabbing offensive rebounds and putting it back in. I don't know why Bruce wasn't out there.
Could somebody please give me a detailed description of what happened? I was following on play by play :(

The buzzer beater was great but it was still an embarassing performace by the Spurs(got killed on the boards/weak defensive effort resulted in the opposing team shooting a better percentage than us on the night).

Final: Spurs 108, Sixers 106 (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/spursworld/2009/01/game-blog-spurs-vs-76ers.html)
By Joe Alexander
Tony Parker made a high-arcing jumper as time ran out to give the Spurs a hard-won 108-106 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Spurs led by 21 points early in the game before the Sixers stormed back.
Parker had gone scoreless most of the second half but made but hit a jumper with 2:02 left. His final shot came when he rebounded a missed 3-pointer, spun and fired the ball almost straight up from the right side.
Tim Duncann led the Spurs with 26 points, Manu Ginobili had 21 and Parker had 15.
FOURTH QUARTER
A Manu Ginobili basket with 1:01 put the Spurs in front 106-104. The Spurs haven't trailed in the fourth quarter, but it's been tight the whole way.
The Sixers got back-to-back dunks from Theo Ratliff and Andre Iguodala to keep it close. The Spurs lead 102-100 with 3:21 left.
The Spurs lead 98-96 with 5:51 left. Tony Parker just missed a driving shot. He hasn't scored since the first half - he is 0 of 6 from the field in the second half.
Manu Ginobili entered the game with 7:34 left. He is probably in for the rest of the way.
Roger Mason is having a good shooting night. He is 5 of 7 from the field and has four points in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. The Spurs lead 93-91 with 8:42 left. They could use one or two more 3-pointers from Mason down the stretch.
THIRD QUARTER
The Spurs are clinging to an 84-81 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Sixers, who trailed by 21 points at the end of the first quarter, actually led 79-78.
The Spurs got 3-pointers from Michael Finley and Roger Mason Jr. in the final 35 seconds of the third quarter. The Sixers' Andre Miller scored 14 points in the quarter.
The Sixers are making a push to get back even. Thaddeus Young threw down an alley-oop dunk and the Spurs' lead is down to 78-72 - the closest the Sixers have been since the first four minutes of the game.
The Sixers got off to a solid start to the second half. A fast-break basket by Andre Iguodala cut the Spurs' lead to 73-61. Gregg Popovich called a timeout less than three minutes into the third quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
The Big Three combined for 43 points and the Spurs made 10 3-pointers on the way to taking a 66-50 halftime lead. Tim Duncan had 19 points, including eight in the last six minutes of the half.
The game is settling into a slower pace and that fits Tim Duncan. He has five of the Spurs' last seven points and they lead 57-44.
The Spurs' starters helped get their offense going midway through the second quarter. Tony Parker had two baskets in a 9-4 Spurs run and they lead 54-40.
The Spurs' energy level dipped in the second quarter and the Sixers cut what had been a 21-point Spurs lead down to nine points.
The second quarter didn't start like the first. The Sixers made an 8-2 run and Gregg Popovich called a timeout. The Spurs lead 42-27.
FIRST QUARTER
A 21-point first quarter is about average for the Spurs. Tonight they lead by 21 at the end of the first quarter - it's 40-19.
The Spurs made 9 of their first 11 shots. They were 8 of 9 from 3-point range in the first quarter.
Tim Duncan and Matt Bonner have combined for 20 points just over seven minutes into the game. The Spurs have already hit four 3-pointers, three by Bonner, and lead 23-11.
Matt Bonner drilled 3-pointers on the Spurs' first two possessions. Tim Duncan added a basket and a three-point play and Roger Mason Jr. hit a 3-pointer. The Spurs have lots of energy and a quick 14-4 lead.

Time was running out and the ball was passed to Manu while he was waiting on the corner. He missed the shot badly then TD (i think) kept the ball alive then TP picked it up, made a turnaround jumper on the wrong leg, fired up a high arching shot and swishhh...all net baby!!! Spurs win!

Well yes, but Tony ran down the clock then began his drive with about 5 seconds left and kicked it to Manu who was semi-open. There wasnt enough time to get another shot. he could have put the ball on the floor but the painted area was packed as they all collapsed to stop TP's penetration.
It was the right shot i thought, Tony gave him the ball there and there wasnt much else he could do.

I dont think the refs will call a foul at the end of the game unless it really obvious. Plus there were 4 guys in the paint and there wasnt much time on the clock.
The ball was in Tony's hands and he made the play to give it to Manu. I would rather him take an open 3 than dribble into 4 guys and put up a tough shot and hope for a foul. Plus i assume the last time Manu would have looked at the clock would have been with about 10 seconds left before Tony began to wind it down and begin his drive, so he probly didnt know the exact amount of time on the clock.

exactly. if we'd pass on open 3, it would be easy to defend against us. Most of the 3 we take are open shots, like the last from manu. If you can't make them, you deserve to lose.
as long as we don't take 3 with a defensor right in the face, i don't see any problem. Opponents pack the lane to prevent penetrations, especially from tony : you punish them by taking open 3, it's how it goes.

Nice shot by TP, but as in the Phoenix game or any other games this year with buzzer beaters, the actual win itself is nothing to get excited about.... Philadelphia is a team that we should have put away by the end of the 1st quarter. I'm actually disappointed in our performance tonight. Fun game though...15 3-pointers, we should have had 17 to set a new record. Again, nothing to get excited about, nothing shocking about the win itself, but great buzzer-beater and fun game with 15 3-pointers. Yet people like TPark jump on me. I wonder if he was even watching the game.
It was not hard to see that the Spurs defense was total crap tonight. Maybe some people don't notice when the offense is playing good, but defense is the thing I look at first.
I think some of it is due to lack of focus, attention to detail and just plain laziness. I know we can play better than this. That focus has to come or we're not going to be very good.
I thought Bruce played some good defense tonight. You think he should have had more court time?
Also, TimVP I'm curious about what you think about Tolliver after another atrocious shooting night?
You're probably going to say Watkins was garbage or wouldn't have done anything in the NBA, but I think I'm going to stand by what I said in the preseason that Watkins should have been looked at more than Tolliver. I think with a bit of tutelage he could have helped with the interior defense. A lot of people said that Mahinmi would be back soon so there was no need for another big like Watkins. Doesn't look like Mahinmi is going to show up.

Ha!
My name on this board is BuzzerBeater.
How many buzzerbeaters have we had this year?
Too many for me to feel comfortable with the consistency level of defense, to me it takes twice as long to develop into a balanced team since we set out to find perimeter shooters this year, and have given that part of our game a lot more responsibility, so that takes away from our stuff in the paint.
Another thing to consider; other teams have had 10 years to see what Pop and Timmy run, then at least another 5 to break down what those 'ships were all about, so I take that into consideration whenever we have a big turnover rate, factor in also the off the ball and on banging that Timmy absorbs without getting the veteran's benefit of the whistle, is that just me noticing that trend?
Who's jumping up and down? I'm pretty sure Pop isn't and team wouldn't be either.

we're ranked 7th defensively, and that's including our horrible D in the 1st 5 games of the season..and that's including being without Manu, who is our 3rd best perimeter defender..
that's fine, especially for a team that is known not to care much about the regular season..
a win is a win..we're just going for homecourt, we're already a proven team..
did you really expect a blowout win? we were on a back-to-back vs. a young, athletic team, which is the type of team we struggle against..Philly beat us last year IIRC..

Hornets have to get to 22 and 9 if they are to pass the Spurs and as it stands on their schedule they have their work cut out for them.
Next 2 NOH games:
Lakers
Utah
Also these are back to back games so they will be tired as hell against 2 top teams. Lets say they win one and lose one, that would still put them further back from the Spurs.
