I made a sick Excel worksheet for a Cut I am doing.
First, I start out with a list of 30-40 healthy food items and list their Calories/Protein/Carbs/Fats/Sugars/Fiber/Price per serving.
Next I have a daily food log. All I have to do is copy and paste from the previous Food list whatever I eat that day. Then, just adjust the serving size. I have a food scale where I weight everything in grams. All I have to do is calculate to find the serving nutritional data.
After I have listed a complete days worth of food I have eaten, I get Excel to automatically calculate the totals of that day.
Every morning I weigh myself and post it by the daily totals log. This allows me to see what is working and what isn't.
I can adjust the macro-nutrient ratio Protein/Carbs/Fats and total Calories to see what my body best responds to.
Shit is awesome. It's basically the science behind reality. No gimmicks. As long as I stay disciplined in the kitchen by taking in less calories than I burn each day, it's good to go.
Once I get two or three months of common meals and find out the best combination to get around 50/30/20 protein/carbs/fats, I can eventually just copy and paste the entire thing so it won't take long to enter into excel. This makes it SUPER easy to see how low of a deficit I can get to while still having enough energy for workouts.

I've lost 20 lbs since feb 1. I'm eating better. Special k for breakfast instead of breakfast tacos. Diet soda when I want soda. Snacking on fruit and vegetables instead of chips or other crap. Try not to eat late.
and excersize. Lots of it.
it hit the eliptical machine for 40-45 minutes. Usually until I burn 500 calories. Crunches, pushups and I also started using the machines and free weights to work my upper body.
the first 10 lbs came off quick. I started at 276 and I've stalled at about 253.

I always have trouble with the diet part though..I have the guide and followed it and everything, I still find it tough to make a good plan with enough calories and not spend way too much money..
What kind of plan did some of you guys use? (examples)..

Update: Total scam by the multilevel acai berry profit pushers. Fake ad and there is no reporter named Stacie on Channel 9 in LA. They even stole the picture of that hot French anchor Mellisa Thoreau as *Stacie*.

i have been overweight for the entirety of my life. i am currently 35.
i haven't weighed myself over here, but when i left on saturday morning, i was at 372 pounds.
That is no longer acceptable to me as I feel it is a hindrance to the image i wish to convey as well as a likely hindrance to my ability to accomplish the work i need to do.
I read in the BMI index that for 6ft tall with a large frame, i should weigh approximately 188 pounds.
I don't know if my body will get there, but I am determined to do two things.
First and foremost, i do not want to eat anything unhealthy any longer.
Secondly, i plan to be more active, through my work.
I believe that these two factors will shed the fat on my body pretty rapidly.
I am doing this in the name of God, and for His Glory.
That is my only motivation.
I feel that i will not fail, as i simply cannot fail. I no longer have the option.
I do wonder where my weight will finally settle upon.
I have to lose 184 to get to 188...Let God's will be done.
And may Godbless all of you fellow weight loss peeps, it is good to be part of your thread, and i thank you for getting this stickied.
i will not speak of God in this thread any more.
I will let the results do the talking, and thank you in advance for letting me do this here. :toast

BMI is a garbage number (it says LeBron James is overweight). Don't worry about getting all the way to 188. It might just be easier to work to 350, once you accomplish that work for 325, and so on. Small goals like going an extra minute walking or running when you feel winded or adding a 1/4 mile of distance can really add up and get you where you want to be.

No meat period? As in no chicken, no fish? Or just no red meat? Do you eat lots of eggs for the protein then?

Well, just to update, i ended up spending an extra week abroad, but it was good for my weight loss and newly found healthy eating habits.
I'm down to 350. 22 pounds in two weeks.
I'm secure with that number as i rode business class for the first time in my life today (maybe only time?) and ate like a king...it's just like Seinfeld...but even better!!!
Then when the plane landed i met my family at my mom's and she had the Papas con Carne and warm tortillas ready and waiting.
So you know i had to tear into that a little bit.
Anyhow, back on track tomorrow.
My blood pressure is a bit high, and i attribute it to the blood carrying all this fat out of my system, but I'm gonna make a dr's appt just to get him in on the loop.
So, we'll see where we go from here...i think 2 weeks is a good interval, so i'll report back then. GodBless you all and good luck!

I just started working out yesterday.
I just turned 18, 5'8", weigh 168.
I don't have much muscle on me, the most I've ever benched is 145.
Right now, waist 32 jeans fit a little tight on me, my short term goal is to comfortably fit in a 30. Since I'm going off to college, I'm scared the rumors of gaining weight your first year will come true for me. So I want to lose it before I gain it back, although I will still try to keep it off.
I'm starting out with running a mile a day in the morning. I can't afford weights so I'm using resistance bands, and I use Perfect Pushup. My afternoons are more Perfect Pushup and bands, along with Tae Bo and I use the Ab Ripper from P90X. I would use the actual program but I don't think I'm physically fit for it yet, and I don't have any place to put a pull up bar or manipulate the bands into a substitute. Also play soccer with friends for usually a couple hours. Taking vitamins as well.

The good news and bad news is that I'm still at 350 as of today...maybe 349.
As I adjusted to my San Antonio eating habits, my weight jumped back up to 360 for a moment, but steadily came back down.
I need to have more discipline, no doubt, but I'm not doing too badly. Staying away from fast foods and eating healthier overall. If I make a couple of tweaks here and there and cut out a couple of junk food choices here and there, I should continue to make strides. Did alot of yard work this weekend, so that should help a little too.
Anyhow, check back in two weeks. I'm hoping to be close to 340 by then.

Thanks Camper...I've definitely been eating more chicken these days, (non fried) and I've been enjoying salads for the first time in my life really.
I just have to work on my discipline, as I still do partake in a good chinese meal or mexican food meal. I'm also cooking alot more then ever, and while i'm trying to cook healthy, I'm cooking what we got, and sometimes, there is cheese added, or butter, which I know isn't helping my cause. I am going to continue to cook this way as it is more for my wife and kid, but I'm gonna have to prepare a separate, healthier, meal for myself, at least until I reach my goal.
As for alcohol, I had pretty much cut down to a couple of beers once in a blue moon before I converted, but now I don't drink a drop of alcohol, so that's not an issue.
I'm gonna go ahead and save the Locusts and wild honey for the last resort...but sure sounds like good eatin!
Thanks for the support man. :toast

lean proteins chicken, fish, turkey, and add greens to your meals, stop buying boxed and frozen items (exception of frozen vegetables, plain) don't give me any bullshit on i hate vegetables, season them. pimp those greens flavor them and i don't mean drop tons of ranch dressing and cheese on them either. of course exercise and no yard work and walking like your shopping in the mall won't get it done, for heart health AHA recommends 30 min brisk walk most days of the wk, but honestly to lose the wt you need an hr of vigorous activity 6-7 days a wk - start at the 30 min but work your way to the hr, every one has at least an hr 4-7 days a wk, sorry if that means you can't watch tv or waste time doing other useless stuff - when your health matters
drink tons of water - like 80oz or more daily

Just found this thread. The only thing is that I'm trying to do the opposite. I'm 20yo 6'4 1/2" and I only weigh 185. I've been constantly working out for 2 years now and I have gained about 15 pounds of muscle. My goal weight is 205 for now. However, I want to get up to about 240-250 to fill out my frame. I currently eat high protein foods like chicken, turkey, fish, along with protein shakes. Does anyone know of any good supplements to get for gaining healthy muscle?

You have the same frame as me practically. I weighed 170 when I started to gain weight and bulk. I asked myself the same question. I started gainning when I made a serious workout and diet schedule. I do weights 5 days a week and I try to eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day which are rich in protein. Along with this I drink 2-3 protein shakes a day. Two shakes a day on my non workout days and 3 shakes a day on my workout days.

Just eat a caloric surplus while still maintaining a good macro-nutrient ratio. (i.e., 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fats)
Lift heavy. If you are doing a lot of sports in addition to lifting you are burning a lot of calories and need to eat even more.
Keep a log book and just focus on increasing the weight you lift for each exercise week to week depending on your lifting program. You have to eat to grow. There is no way around this. You need a surplus to create new muscle and keep it. If you lift heavy, it will freak the $%^& out of your body and cause your body's defensive mechanism to kick in - thus more muscle is created.

I myself am at a perfect weight, but I'm an (almost) vegan nonetheless. I love not eating meat for more reasons than I have time to articulate and I've been surprised by how easy it is. Not surprised by how much better I feel, physically, after just three months.
This is the video that changed my life. The provided google link takes you to it in entirety. Anybody wanting to lose weight or get healthy should give it an hour.

Ya know everyone I know who went vegetarian said they love it and it's a great lifestyle. I'm at 225 and have almost no problem with how I look but I wanna get down to 205-210. And only halfway through the youtube videoballi just posted, I'm even more convinced.
Maybe my friends will give me tons of crap about it, but I'm going it a try. I went a month straight eating nothing but salmon and broccoli after I just got too big and needed to kick start my diet two years ago, this can't be too hard to do. Thanks for the link balli.

Lowering cholesterol is a BigPharma scam going back to the '50s to sell statins.
There is no relation between dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol.
Another scam is the low-fat scam. America is freaked out about fats and obsessed with protein. Many recent diet studies have shown that the group that restricts carbs loses/maintains weight better than the group that doesn't. And the low-carb group has better serum bio-markers, too.
still pretty simple. stick to the major food groups-plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean protein when possible, fiber and some dairy works for me.
i have also discovered that adding a nice kettle bell routine twice a week has been great for the core and muscle endurance. it's a nice change up from the iso routine.

If you guys need some tips on weight loss I'm the right person to ask! When I was 17 I weighed 260lbs, during the school year I dropped 40lbs (Probably took me 5 months) and then once the summer came I dropped another 40lbs in 2 months and finally 10lbs in 1 month. All I did was a low calorie diet and absolutely 0, yes ZERO running :D. I did all this with just 20-30 minutes of exercise a day or every other day.
Also if you guys need a supplement you guys should buy some Zinc! It only costs around $4 (Comes with like 100 tablets, and you only need 1 a day) at just about any grocery store, just make sure you buy the 50mg tablets. Basically what zinc does is boost your testosterone, I GUARANTEE your sex drive will go up and even the loads you blow will be A LOT bigger than normal (Your body needs zinc to produce sperm, more zinc=more sperm).
More testosterone=easier muscle gain and weight loss.
It's incredibly underrated.

I'll guess I'll throw my hat in this ring. Started the year at 216, now down to 208. Most of that loss has come in the last 2-3 weeks after taking some basic steps to eat better and get a workout routine going. Short term I want to get under 200 and get all my pants fitting comfortably again. Long term I'm shooting for about 180, although that will probably require shopping for new pants. Turns out eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, and exercising regularly promotes good all around health. Who knew?

However, harmful excessive supplementation is a problem among the relatively affluent, and should probably not exceed 20 mg/day in healthy people,[163] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc#cite_note-165) although the U.S. National Research Council set a Tolerable Upper Intake of 40 mg/day.[164] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc#cite_note-166)

221 yesterday morning. I'm close to my goal weight of 215. Yesterday I did an hour of hard weights, immediately followed by a 5K run on the treadmill...that was accomplished in 27:23. I'd like to get the run down to 26:30ish.

Scale said 202 this morning. Still eating right, but between the flu and an inexplicably sore back I've been off the workout wagon for a couple of weeks now. Will do something this weekend, no matter what.

Same round of hard weights but shaved 8 seconds off the run today to get it down to 27:15. Will be under 27 minutes by this time next week. Once I'm down under 27 I'm hoping that will take the last five or six pound with it.

Do you knock down a protein/carbs between the weights and run? I've read that running long distance right after lifting weights makes your body go catabolic meaning it is just breaking down muscles to fuel your runs. Could be counter-productive.

"I'll level out and have to begin exercising"
No, you won't.
Eat well to lose weight, maintain lean weight.
Exercise to be fit.
The two are not related.
You can be well fit but overweight.
You can be lean but out of shape.
The only reliable, long term strategy is eating correctly, not (intense) exercise. The foundation of health is diet, not exercise.
Eating correctly in the USA is very difficult since the most fo the food-like substances are heavily processed, perverted shit.

Nah...I don't really consider 5k long distance...not long enough for something like that to occur. Anyway, I'm still flying pretty good on the NO-XPLODE when I get to my run so I'm not really worried.
Broke 27 today on the run...26:53. Great feeling.

Just in case you're serious...
Drink 40 oz of h20 in the am, fist-sized portions of food(no more) q 3 hours up until 6p. Don't eat after that...anytime you get the urge to eat after 6 just drink water. Mix in some cardio if you can. If you can't, then get your doc to prescribe you some phentermine or bontril. Take a multivitamin everyday and a mag supplement at night.
Hope that helps.

What is your constant RPM?
It's a slow, constant increase. Here's my pace...first half mile at 6.7, then 6.8 for the next. At one mile, increase to 7.0 then 7.1 at 1.5 miles. At two miles, increase to 7.3 and stay there for the whole 3rd mile. The final tenth of a mile is whatever you have left. I usually don't have much left...as I finish that last tenth at 7.4. At this pace, you will run your 5K in under 26:30. I'm hovering in the mid 26:20's right now.
Sorry so long on the response. I sometimes forget about this thread.

Thats a pretty fast time. I only run 3k on the treadmill and only hover around 6-7, 6-8 for most of the time, then my last two minutes I only run at 7.0. But I am usually gassed beyond belief after I am done, and am nowhere near 5k. Do you take any gels or anything before you run? I have been at this same pace for a while and would like to move up to somewhere around your pace.

I just for the heck of it tried one of those "gel" packs that all the runners always rave about. I don't know what the heck is in that gel, but it freaking works! I ran my 7.0 the best I ever have and my cooldown consisted of 5 more minutes of 6.5. Normally I am blown after my 3k. I see why runners use this stuff. Around the 2.5 mark when I am usually gasping today I was floating it seemed like.

219 day before yesterday. Haven't had the heart to weigh since then. I'm below 220...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

There is currently only 189 pounds of me to go around. Picking up some weights from my brother on the way home from work today so with a little time and some hard work I should be buff enough to start challenging everyone who disagrees with me on ST to a fist fight.

BUMP, since it's sticky got revoked and I'm still padding my post count. 187 and within striking distance of the first part of my New Year's Resolution, which was to get to 180 by September. The second half was to still weigh that much or less by 2012.

Looking at the date from my last post it would seem that the instance that I clicked the "Post Quick Reply" button the wheels kind of fell off of everything. They almost literally did from our car. That and a bunch of work stuff teamed up to throw my routine completely off track. Really the biggest thief in the night in all of this was a summer cold. I was vaguely ill for about three days and then had a cough that I just couldn't shake. So the two weeks where I was going to get really aggressive with my diet and exercise plans turned into two weeks where I wasn't getting home in time to cook a healthy dinner and couldn't get my heart rate even slightly elevated without coughing fits.
Still, that's a grand total 32 pounds lost in 2010 so far and more to come I hope. Though simply by typing that I've probably jinxed myself to have a piano fall on me and then have a hospital mix up fill my IV bag with melted butter.

You must not have watched the whole show. What she said was that blacks and beaners burn fat when they are cooking. Then they shovel that fat into their mouths.
