Kind of premature when Ray Allen and Pierce can shoot the 3 but I am beginning to see that Boston's lack of depth is an issue. When you have to play Scalabrine says alot about thier bench. They really miss Posey and Brown.

It's been a weird day in the NBA. The only favorite to win (barely) was Detroit.

As I said in another thread, Magic, Cavs, and soon Celtics all lose today. Lakers better take note and not join them later versus Portland!

Key statline of the night:
K Garnett
6 points on 1-6 shooting, 9 rebs, 2 assists, 3 TOs

Considering the Knicks are coached by D'Antoni and feature forwards like Jeffries, Harrington and Wilson Chandler, you'd think a legit 7-footer could have imposed his will a tad more.

Soft.

The Magic and Cavs were both expected to lose. They are not top 4 teams. The Celtics should have won. The Lakers will win tonight or the Blazers will win tonight..either one of those teams losing that game wouldn't be a surprise.

Wow...that's hilarious. Garnett can only muster 6pts against the Knicks?

Just for fun, here is Duncan's line vs. the Knicks...23pts, 9reb, 7ast, 2blk.

It was maddening to see a franchise player pass up shots and giving the ball to Perkins.

The Celtics haven't been the same since they met the Lakers Juggernaut. Seems like the Lakers just stole their mojo.

Good win by the Knicks, Chandler on fire.

Soft.

The Knicks bigs actually match up pretty well against KG. Jared Jeffries is 6-11, 240, with length and quickness. Harrington also has good quickness for his size and bulk. KG's advantage against most power forwards is his athleticism and quickness. That is somewhat neutralized with quicker combo forwards like Jeffries and Harrington. Doesn't excuse his poor performance overall, but the match-up isn't as lopsided as you suggest, on paper or in reality.

It's about as explainable as Tim Duncan only averaging 5.5 rpg against the Milwaukee Bucks this year in two games.

David Lee had a really solid showing as well, with 14pts 14 rebs 2 blocks and a steal. Man, I wish the Spurs could trade for him somehow.

Warlord23

Rebounding is a bit different ... boxing out is a big part of it, and so long as the frontcourt maintains an overall edge in rebounding % it's all good. Duncan is great at getting position, which is why the Spurs are one of the best defensive rebounding teams, although Timmy's name never features among league leaders in rebounding.

Unless KG was being doubled as soon as he caught the ball (I didn't watch the game), 6 points is very strange.

I predicted before the season began that BOS would have trouble keeping up their break-neck pace.

All that matters is that they are playing great basketball in the playoffs, which I think they will.

Boston did not have a "break-neck pace" before the season began for you to predict they wouldn't be able to keep it up.

I don't know why that Tim doesn't play well against the Bucks!!

You're right, winning 67 regular season games is a mere walk in the park.

that's why the knicks bought marbury out.

It's a good sign that the celtics have been infected by marbury who is the most poisonous virus, and there is no antidote to him.

Huh? The previous season?

And, if you're really talking about before the season began how they couldn't keep up with last season, then that 27-2 start really supported that prediction. :rolleyes

Celtics were playing off the fumes from their finals victory over a young and completely injury riddled Lakers squad, which explains that little irrelevant win streak against a shitty eastern conference.

After facing a healthy Lakers team on Christmas and the subsequent 4th quarter beatdown they realized that they have no chance to repeat as long as the Lakers stay healthy. Now they're just conceding home court because it wouldn't have mattered anyways.

DrHouse

Rondo was excelling because teams weren't defending him correctly. It's eerily similar to what Tony Parker went through in the 2004 WCF when Phil forced Parker to beat the Lakers with his jumpshot.

I also find this is the key to the Spurs. If Tony can make his jumpshots, the Lakers will have a long night...a win can go either way.

If Tony is missing jumpshots, I think the Lakers win easily.

That is indeed something I'm worried about. Tony's outside shot looks better but he does have some midrange slumps. I don't think he "trusts" his shot yet although he certainly can make them.

TP is and always will be worried about his JS no doubt. His favorite sentence is something like "if my JS is ok I feel I can do anything" therefore IMO he still can have off nights due to confidence issues related to that.
The big difference this year ? He is less concerned or obsessed by that because he knows that the team can rely on other guys : matt / hill / mase and of course Manu. The perfect example is the game against Miami, despite his struggling with the JS he didn't force the thing and took only 9 shots but he stayed agressive and helped the team.
