Ohio State can't win as long as Alex Boone is their Left Tackle. The guy is the single reason we have been blown out in 3 of our biggest games. Ends and Linebackers just run around him like he isn't even there. Thankfully tonight is his last game, and we have a 5 Star guy behind him so Ohio State can get back to the respectful program they had.

I know all of you can hate on it or whatever, I've watched enough of Alex Boone and he is the reason we appear to suck, and no other reason. You can't win many games when your QB spends the whole game on the ground or getting chased around

Ohio state D looks very good
In fact, overall OSU looks the better team. Colt making dumb decisions, and UT running game bringing in its total worst performance of the year. The end of the 1st half, Greg Davis all but totally abandoned the run. Pathetic. Always was a weakness though. We gotta limit the 2nd half to zero turnovers, and find a way to convert our big plays into points. Gonna be tough.

good points CBF

I pretty muich feel that Davis is calling a horrible game. Colt is sucking it much the way he did against Tech in teh first half. Texas was down way more than 3 in the first half against Tech and came back within a play of winning so I havent lost faith yet. However if they can't stop Wells, and Colt doesn't start making better decisions we have no chance.

and :lol at eveyrone for saying Texas sucks bc they're playing a good OSU team. Did I htink it would be a blowout by UT? yes, but that's bc I'm a longhorn fan and should think that way.

The key to this game is whether or not UT's defense gets worn out. And judging by OSU's defense, thus far, whether or not their defense gets worn out as well.

Thus far, its even. The score should be 9-9, really. Our D is probably worn down more than OSU's as well. Seems like Pryor is just a little faster than we thought, and Beanie is getting mad yardage in lead block situations. Mack and Champ left two safeties deep in the Oklahoma State game, and they ran for like 200 yards in the 2nd half. This run game is much better. I sure hope the coaches learned something during halftime.

Thunder Dan
01-05-2009, 10:09 PM
the thing with Bowl games is that you get different styles that contrast and the team that wins needs to make the other fit into their style. For the most part it is decided in the first half, but not tonight. The Big Ten is more of a defense and pound you in the mouth league, while the Big 12 is more of a just outscore the other team and forget about defense league. This is a rare game where it's 2 totally different styles, but still could go either way. For the last 2 BCS games tOSU played in they were not able to get their style across and were forced to play a SEC style which they didn't do all that well

You are correct. Okie State and Tech blew there chances but even if OU loses, its still a winning bowl record which is way better than 1-6.

As far as the game goes, IMO the first half was more about offensive ineptitude than anything. The usual shitty Greg Davis play calling, bad reads by the RB's and McCoy for the Horns matched up with odd play calling, dropped passes and bad passes by Pryor for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State loses like 51 seniors (according the the guys on Fox) but as long as they have #2...they will win the Big 10 again. When Pryor learns to get some touch on the ball....damn. I am a little confused as to why they didn't let Pryor run more than they did in the 2nd half, he was ripping up yards left and right. That kid will be special.

Good game though. At least OSU didn't give up. They showed heart unlike their conference brethren. :toast

Texas was the better team after all. But all the god glory credit to Ohio State. Their defense was the same old shit. Colt got in a groove early 3rd quarter, and ate them and shat them out. Then we hit a brick wall and were losing. Ohio state lost this game by scoring a touchdown too easily. The coaches on both sides knew this. That is the beauty of football. Ohio State being better than us allowed us enough time to stuff them. Ergo, Ohio State was not as good as we thought previous to that play. Exactly like the Tech-UT game when UT left too much time on the clock.

Huh? I didn't have a "hard on" for either team. Was just hoping to see a good game. You're just pissed because I pointed out the fact that your Longhorns needed every bit of 4 quarters to escape against a team that USC wiped the floor with.

are you seriously comparing the two OSU squads? Here's what makes it different.

1. Bennie Wells had zero rushing yrds against USC
2. That was Terrell Pryors first game
3. It was at USC.
4. It was the top game of the week so USC was hyped.

Texas was obviously not all that excited about this game, but still had the talent to win it.

Texas did not win as easily as I or You thought they would. All this means to me, as a watcher of every Texas Game, is that I totally underestimated Ohio State. Prahps to them, in every aspect. The coaching calls, the defense, the run game, the heart. They put themselves in a position to steal this game from a Colt McCoy that was on fire in the 3rd quarter. But Colt overcame that, with mad help from the one and only Lord Quan. Record setting completions and yards for a Fiesta Bowl.

That's a load of crap and you know it. Everybody and their dog knew that UT wanted to come out and make a statement that they belonged in the Championship game, and maybe even get the AP vote as Champs if OU beat Florida. They had plenty to be excited about.

Maybe you Big 12 fans shouldn't spend so much time next season trying to tear down USC and the rest of the Pac-10 in order to build your conference up. Then you won't have to spend so much time making excuses to try and cover all your smack talk when it backfires.

Texas beat Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl and I felt it was going to set the tone for them the following season. Winning a close game like that gave that entire team and especially Vince Young the confidence of doing that anytime that situation arose. The next year they go 13-0 and finish the year breaking the Trojans heart in dramatic fashion.

The same could be said about a game like this. Add to the motivation of the BCS controversy, Texas will be an even scarier team next season.

If Pryor can develop the way Vince Young did, and the same way Troy Smith did under Tressel he will be a fantastic QB. The guy was still in High School last year at this time.

Texas had a top-five all-time college player on the field that night, and were still VERY fortunate to win, not to take credit away from them. McCoy is terrific, but he isn't in VY's league.

That said, it's hard to really judge USC at this time every year, because they always play their bowl game practically at home against an opponent from a weak conference. I'd love to see the Trojans play Florida in Miami, and see what happens.

as for SC at the end of the year...be fair. sometimes they play very strong teams and just make them look weak, there is a difference. their run of BCS games has included 2 at the orange bowl and that didn't matter much. plus, look at the road games SC plays out of conference early in the year...they destroy teams on the road.

Uh-huh, and playing two QB's at a time is caveman football.

What non Big 12 fans don't realize is that Texas can't run the ball. Nobody I know wants UT to throw that much - you know the saying: three things happen when you throw and two are bad. Didn't you pick the Aggies to go to a bowl this year? ;)

Oh no, I get what you are saying and you are absolutely correct.

That is what was so maddening about watching SC win, they got cheated out of a title shot by the current rules in place. I would love to see an SC-Utah game. If I had to pick, I pick SC big but what if Utah has a Hoosiers moment and knocks them off? It would be one of the biggest upsets in history. The players, coaches and fans are robbed of that.

While I will admit if UT played against USC the way they played last night, we would lose, it is impossible to compare the two teams.

Regardless of how impressive SC looked, fact is, they were playing a home game. Pure and simple. Let's see them beat an SEC team in a bowl game where the other team is on their own home field. When they do that, I'll give them props.

Championship talk is stupid too. This year has no real champion. End of story. And I dont even have UT in mind when I say that.

Props to UT, their players, their coaches, for another bad ass season. We will miss you, Lord Quan.

its easy to compare them. USC would stomp the shit out of t.u. regardless of whether they played like last night or not. its impossible to know for sure.

its not like USC hasn't scheduled sec teams before and worked them. can't always help it if they are good or not, even though 1 of those arkansas teams was good and both auburn teams were pretty good.

think about this...considering Carroll isn't afraid to play any team out of conference and the ass kickings they have delivered, who is dodging whom? can't control whom the bowls select.

I didn't say anything about dodging. But you are such a ridiculous homer there is absolutely no concept of intelligent sports debate when it comes to you. I'll admit your predictions this bowl season have been pretty impressive, but your blind faith in USC with absolutely no wavering is sickening.

If USC is so indisputably good, how did they lose to that shit school oregon state? Oh, they won their bowl game 3 to 0, so they're actually a really good team, right? (laughing out loud) It's the type of one blind sided argument a seventh grader could construct.

There is no way you can go much further than if UT played USC the way they played OSU, UT would lose. The rest of your speculation is grounded on your homerness.

Furthermore, you always go out of your way to make it sound like UT sucks, no matter what, so its difficult to take your opinion seriously anyways. And those Arkansas teams that USC played were total crap, bottom of the line SEC.

I don't give a shit if UT plays a pancake schedule. Most of the criticisms I heard about my team prior to the Rose Bowl was that we did not play anybody. "Baylor?! Aggies? You guys are about to play a team that can actually play and beat good teams!" I heard something like this constantly. And look what happened. Ya'll got fistfucked. Tonsils totally impaled.

Even if USC would kick the shit out of UT, we are still perfect in BCS bowl games, and are on one of the most impressive historical runs in NCAA history. And nothing ya'll can say will ever take that away.

Amen LaMarcus, and jgw owned once again with his homer usc takes. I also would love to play those over-rated usc punks this season so we could show them up once again in front of their home fans. Just remember, national champ. game is at the Rose Bowl next season-would be a great opportunity to show up yet another over-hyped usc team.

As for my boys at UT, a win is a win right? We pretty much sleep walked through the first half and then decided to start playing actual football in the
3rd quarter. Mack is now 3-0 in BCS games and you gotta love that kind of consistency.

As for next season, we are simply LOADED with talent coming back on this team. The one main area of rebuilding is the D line, but we have plenty of talented guys ready to step up and play. And to address running game concerns, get ready to watch C. Whaley. At about 6'3/230lbs, he should be a monster running the ball as the power back with Fozzy, Vondrell and J. Hills also adding to the mix at RB. Whaley also had two 400 plus yard rushing games this season, he looks like a MONSTER.:hat

It doesn't really matter whether Brutalis was right or not (he was) because Arkansas was 5-7 this year, with bad losses and few quality wins. If you can't see that they were a bad team for yourself, well, take off the blinders.

what does arkansas's record have to do with 2006? Nutt left arkansas to go to mississippi and had great success in his first year (this year).

you don't make any sense and helped my argument (on the Nutt side). the 10 win arkansas team in 2006 was good, there isn't any way around it. the fact that they had some close losses at the end of the year is irrelevant.

Stoops does suck coaching the BCS games. They average like 60 points a game, have the best QB in the game and you run the freaken ball. You call 4 running plays inside the 10 and give the ball to Florida. You throw the ball before the half with 10 seconds left NOT in the in zone. You call a timeout in fear of a block punt only to have the other team call a timeout to block the punt and 5 guys have a shot at it. The running into the kicker was a accident. Man no matter how this game ends that guy obviously coaches different in the BCS games.
