Lakers will not lose to any of those crappy teams.
One can hope though but highly unlikely.
Plus you said No Walton, no Farmar like they would make a difference.

agreed. I will no longer troll for the spurs and predict their wins against my real thought, because I am a Mavs fan now. And I hope you join Mavs' group after quiting the suns who have always been frustrating you since you became a suns fan.
Mavs are not the best team but definitely way better than the suns. Suns don't deserve your love, my boy. Only the Mavs are worth our support and love. Spurs are under Mavs but still deserve our attention and consideration, but suns are just a sh!tty team that don't even deserve the air they are breathing in and out.

no point in focusing on the lakers
we are clearly not going to get close to them for the best record...might as well just expect 2nd seed.

It's early January and all teams have their spells and droughts and injuries. The Lakers are not immune nor is 4-5 lead at this time in any way insurmountable.
Plus their newly discovered vaunted "defensive mindset" is starting to FAIL.
The idea that the Lakers are "untouchable" is ludicrous. Quit reading the MSM that KB is better than MJ and the Laker's are God's gift to the NBA. The only people who believe that are LAL fans and the Lakers themselves. Ask Boston, they believe their own hype as well.

After the Lakers beat the Warriors, the Spurs are 5.0 games behind them. There isn't much of a comfort zone or cushion for the other Western teams contending for a playoff spot, though. There is currently (1/08/2009) only a 2.5 game difference between the #2 seed and the #8 seed in the Western Conference.
One other item of interest regarding non-conference records. The Top team in the East, Cleveland, is better against the Western Conference so far (9-1) than the Lakers are against Eastern Conference teams (8-4). In-conference, the Cavs are 19-5 and the Lakers are 20-2 against the rest of the West. It's early in the season but it's interesting to watch for trends and realize how competitive the NBA is right now. 5 teams in the East are over .600 and 6 teams in the West are .600, or greater.

West playoff race is tight as of now. Spurs are in the 2/3 playoff seed right now. And, the Jazz aren't even in the playoffs right now but only 3 games behind the Spurs. 9 teams all pretty similarly competitive for those 8 playoff spots. Chances are though, one or two of those teams catch an unlucky break with an injury or losing streak. It may have happened with Carmelo and Anthony already. There will be at least one very good team, possibly two, in the Western Conference that will once again miss the playoffs.

The Lakers need to take care of their business. Beating the Spurs isn't easy but it's certainly doable.
Just be patient and pay attention to detail and maybe the Lakers can get back to being a championship team. It's been a few years since they won a championship. Spurs fans have enjoyed celebrating 3 NBA Titles since the Lakers last tasted success in the Finals. In San Antonio, there is no sense of pride in calling their team The Penultimates, The Second Placers, or The Almosters, or The We Beat The _______ Last Year, HaHas.
It's been since 2001-02 since Kobe's team won a championship. The clock is ticking, time is moving on. Kobe's ovaries aren't going to be producing forever. Tick, Tick, Tick....

The Lakers will probably hold onto the # 1 seed, with the Spurs getting # 2.
But the Lakers are seriousely over-rated. They will likely get bumped off in the second round by a young upstart team like the Hornets, giving the home court to the Spurs.

Lakers' first year: 1947
Spurs first year: 1973
So 26 more years as a franchise. Lakers fans should keep in mind that they've classically had the 'best players that money can buy', and the Spurs have been working under funded (by NBA standards) since their conception. Four rings for the only former ABA franchise to win a title? Not bad for a small market, working class team.

Lakers bandwagoners(which is to say all of their fans) show know that the Phil owning Pop in the playoffs is bullshit. Phil has consistently more to work with, and Horry himself had stated that if Pop had been coaching the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe together, they would've won alot more championships.
Hope Pop shelves his CIA training and pulls out all the stops.

The Spurs have had David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker.
All 4 of those players are legitimate superstar talent. Don't give me this BS that the Spurs never had any talent to work with. The bottom line is you don't win championships in this league without superstar talent, the only team to do so in recent history is the Detroit Pistons and they had All-Stars at probably every starting position.
And the Lakers have 9 rings since moving to LA. 5 in the 80's, 1 in the 70's, and 3 in the 2000's. That's consistently winning in just about every decade. The Lakers have the best winning percentage of any NBA team in history, they have the most Finals appearances, and outside of the Celtics they have the second greatest number of rings. They have absolutely nothing to prove to the Spurs, who they have consistently trashed in the playoffs.

A-Not jack shit.
Q-Has Phil Jackson EVER won a title without having 2 of the best players at their positions?
A-He's NEVER won a title with only having 1 superstar.
MJ & Scottie in Chi-town, Shaq & Bean in LA.

I think that the Lakers recent success (due to the signing of Gasol) seems more "bought" than built.
The Spurs have built this team from the draft up. No huge signings, but with such sublety that the rest of the league thinks the Spurs are insane. Most recent example is the drafting of George Hill.
Boston also "bought" the championship last year. It is showing because they lose Posey, and now the legitimacy of their bench is in question. They are resorting to trash talking to cover this weakness and hope their opposition will be so psychologically weakened that the Celtics bench will play better. I know it sounds crazy, but it really seems to be evident during their 4-6 slide.
I am not complaining, basketball is a business after all. Just wanted to make sure that the fans (current and/or bandwagoners) understood this.
