West playoff race is tight as of now. Spurs are in the 2/3 playoff seed right now. And, the Jazz aren't even in the playoffs right now but only 3 games behind the Spurs. 9 teams all pretty similarly competitive for those 8 playoff spots. Chances are though, one or two of those teams catch an unlucky break with an injury or losing streak. It may have happened with Carmelo and Anthony already. There will be at least one very good team, possibly two, in the Western Conference that will once again miss the playoffs.

Boston also "bought" the championship last year. It is showing because they lose Posey, and now the legitimacy of their bench is in question. They are resorting to trash talking to cover this weakness and hope their opposition will be so psychologically weakened that the Celtics bench will play better.
